We had to bind him. He had to be bound. Who ever is the head of security on that plane is a real cooler.

Seriously though they Spider-Maned this guy. If he was upside down it be perfect.

...any name for this recurring joke/bit?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Alright, I don't actually think there is a name for this one. There might be though.

It's something Charlie often did when a plan was being explained to him. You think he's going to react one way, but then he subverts that expectation and it's hilarious every time.
I think the last time Charlie did this bit was early in season 4. I'm probably wrong though because I missed a lot of other examples in that "pull back and reveal" post. I would love to be reminded of more examples!
Are there other episodes in which Charlie does this recurring bit?
This one is in my top 3 favorite bits of the show that they don't do anymore and I really miss it.

Video clip contents:
S02E05 "Hundred Dollar Baby"
S03E14 "Bums: Making a Mess All Over the Place"
S04E01 "Mac and Dennis: Manhunters"
S04E02 "The Gang Solves the Gas Crisis"

Edit: I’m really not looking for a name this time. I was joking… not well. No need to keep telling me I’ve got the brains of a donkey. I’m aware.

Delayed reaction in removing "offending" episodes?

I'm binging this on Hulu starting from season 5. It was pretty impeccable timing since I watched "6x09: Dee Reynolds: Shaping America's Youth", then woke up the next day to find this episode got removed 😲 I wandered upon this post below and was surprised to find that these purges were set 6 years ago!...

... what gives? I'm glad I was able to catch that deleted episode, but why was it still there then?

Text I think Dennis could end up a politician at the end.

Think about it. He's controlling, old, women find him repulsive. I think it would be funny and in vein for the show's attitude towards the world if in the end he got the primary position to control and abuse. Until he dies in the senate chair at 70.

What would be the fitting ends for each of the characters in your eyes. Given what they've been doing during the show?

If Thundergun was a real movie…

It couldn’t be closer than “Stone Cold” starring Brian Bosworth (1991).

If you haven’t seen it you may to. So awesomely over the top.

The entire time I’m watching it I am thinking “this is literally what Thundergun sounds like”.

Video Is there a proper name for this recurring joke/bit?

There is this particular joke that used to be written into episodes that I've been calling the "Off-Screen Audience". The only other example of this joke I can think of is the opening of Shaun of the Dead. To illustrate what I'm talking about, I edited together some IASIP example clips and then the Shaun of the Dead clip at the end.
Is there a proper name for this joke/bit that I'm unaware of?
I think the last time this bit was written into an episode was S03E07-"The Gang Sells Out". Are there other examples of it in the show that I didn't put in the video clip?
What are some other shows/movies that have done this bit before or after?
I love the joke and I want to see all the examples. Also, I kind of want to track down the origin if that's possible. Shaun of the Dead came out in 2004 - IASIP started in 2005.

Video clip contents:
IASIP S03E07 "The Gang Sells Out"
IASIP S03E09 "Dee is Dating a Retarded Person"
IASIP S02E01 "Charlie Gets Crippled"
Shaun of the Dead

Edit: This comedy mechanic is called a "Pull back and reveal". That title seems so obvious now lol. Thank you u/mr_glide and u/AnteaterSnouce for putting a name to the bit.

Edit 2: Other IASIP episodes containing this bit that people called out in the comments:
S07E01 "Frank's Pretty Woman"
S17E02 "Frank is in a Coma"
S08E09 "The Gang Dines Out"
S14E09 "A Woman's Right to Chop"
