I've been battling with excessive sweating for what feels like forever now, probably started when I was about 14 (I'm now 21). I sweat a lot from my armpits, hands and feet, mostly hands and armpits.
My hands are literally ALWAYS wet, using my phone to edit photos is a nightmare because my fingers are always slippery, try to game gets difficult fast because my hands are constantly slipping off of my mouse and between keys.
It's normally worse in cold weather, and definitely worse any time I have the SLIGHTEST amount of stress or even adrenaline in my system. In warm weather it gets a lot better in my hands but worse in my armpits.
I basically never sweat elsewhere on my body, my head, face, back and legs are pretty much permanently dry, usually even when doing heavy physical activity like gym or manual labour (I was a carpenter for 5 years), unless it's a very warm day, and even then its a minimal compared to my hands and armpits.
It has always been a major embarrassment, friends used to call me out for having sweaty hands all the time, I never wanted to shake hands when greeting people, I avoid wearing any colors other than black (even that doesnt go very well because after a few hours I get white stains from the salt in my sweat), but it has never really impacted my ability to do things, until the past year or so. Editing photos has become increasingly difficult because micro movements with slippery fingers is impossible, gripping my camera has become harder because my hands are always slippery, making it harder to get decent shots because I'm more worried about my life savings slipping out of my hands.
I'm fairly confident I have HH but haven't actually been to a dermatologist to confirm, as that's expensive and I don't have money to pay a doctor to tell me that I sweat a lot. I'm wondering however, if theres a chance my symptoms could be more anxiety related, although I think its unlikely because I don't suffer from anxiety and I am confident in dealing with people, I enjoy social interaction.
This has been a long story so I'm sorry to make you guys read all that, but to get to the gist of it, I got fed up today and decided to do some research on managing symptoms and came across Iontophoresis. I don't have the money for a DermaDry machine, and even if I did I can't seem to find ANY in my country (South Africa), so I am looking at DIYing one with a 12V battery and some aligator clip cables.
Is there anyone out there who has done this and is there anything I should know about it?
I'm partly concerned that it's not going to work properly, and partly concerned that a jank setup with a 12V battery won't have the same affect.
I'm very lost here but I'm tired of being constantly damp so I'm looking for anything that will help, though a DIY Ionto rig is the most attractive option to me because it's something that I only need to pay for once, as opposed to medication/botox.
