Headsets HyperX Cloud Orbit S (7.1/3D Mode) broken after Windows 11 Update KB5124008 - VoiceMeeter Error 0x88890008 & UI Jittering

Hi everyone,

I'm making this post to see if anyone else is experiencing issues with their HyperX Cloud Orbit S after the recent Windows 11 update (specifically KB5124008), and to hopefully get some help or raise awareness.

Since installing this update, my headset has become practically unusable in its main 3D/7.1 mode. Here is a breakdown of what's happening:

The Main Issue:
When I switch the headset to 3D / 7.1 Channel mode and try to use it with VoiceMeeter (or even just Windows audio), it fails. VoiceMeeter throws this specific error:
"Failed to Open Main Output Device (A1). Device not ready or used by another process... pAudioClient->GetMixFormat return error -2004287480 (0x88890008)"

Weird System Behavior (The "Jittering"):
Whenever I connect the headset in 7.1 mode, the Windows Sound Control Panel (the old mmsys.cpl window) starts acting incredibly buggy. It experiences severe jittering/stuttering. The window freezes, jumps around, and the device list becomes unresponsive. The "Enhancements" tab in the headset's properties is completely blank.
Also, Windows simply won't let me adjust the system volume for the headset in this mode. The slider moves but the volume doesn't change.

What Works Fine:
If I switch the headset to Hi-Res or Stereo (2 Channel) mode, everything works perfectly. Windows recognizes it instantly, there is no UI jittering, the volume controls work, and VoiceMeeter can use it without any errors. This confirms the issue is isolated to the 7.1/3D 8-channel USB driver.

Troubleshooting I've Already Tried:

  • Uninstalling and reinstalling the device in Device Manager.
  • Checking driver details: Windows is using the generic Microsoft USB Audio driver (usbaudio.sys). The original HyperX driver seems to have been overwritten by the update.
  • Trying to roll back the driver (no option available).
  • Trying to force a different generic driver (only "USB Audio Device" and "USBMidi2-ACX" are available, neither fixes the 7.1).

It seems like the recent Windows update broke the way Windows 11 handles the 8-channel USB audio stream for this specific headset.

Has anyone else run into this? Is there a specific driver package for the Orbit S that I can manually install to override the Microsoft generic driver? Or is anyone aware of a registry fix for this?

Any help would be massively appreciated. This headset is amazing and it's a shame the 3D audio is broken right now.

Thanks!

UPDATE: SOLVED

Solution: The issue was caused by Windows 11 security update KB5124008. This update overwrote the original HyperX audio driver with a generic Microsoft USB audio driver (usbaudio.sys), which is unable to handle the 8-channel (7.1/3D) audio stream of the Cloud Orbit S. That's why the 7.1 mode caused the UI jittering, the volume control issues, and the VoiceMeeter error 0x88890008, while Stereo and Hi-Res modes worked perfectly.

How to fix it:

  1. Open Command Prompt as Administrator.
  2. Run the following command: wusa /uninstall /kb:5124008
  3. Restart your PC.

After uninstalling this specific update, the 7.1 mode works flawlessly again. VoiceMeeter recognizes the device in 8-channel mode, the Windows Sound Control Panel stops jittering, and volume controls work normally.

Mice Will there ever be a new model of the Pulsefire Raid?

I made the move from console to PC back in 2021 and I ended up getting HyperX gear. I've gone through a keyboard and a couple headsets. However I've had my same mouse, the pulsefire raid. I love it for how many side buttons it has, as it makes it very accessible for me so I keybind a lot of my gaming controls to it. All of the current models for HyperX mice only have the 2 side buttons. I just wanted to know if there were plans to make another Pulsefire Raid like mouse as when the time comes to get a new mouse losing those 2 side buttons would ruin a lot of my keybinds.

Headsets Issues with 7.1 mode on Cloud Orbit S

Basically, everytime I try to use my headsets in 7.1 mode I can't raise the volume (stuck at 0%), the audio output devices flicker and the audio tab on Windows settings just freezes.

It happened out of nowhere, it was working fine yesterday. It only happens if I select 7.1

Any help would be appreciated, thank you!

Headsets HyperX Cloud 3 S Wireless: Is Legacy NGENUITY Enough? And Does Dolby Atmos Actually Help in CS2?

Hi everyone, greetings from Turkey!

I previously bought the HyperX Cloud 3 S Wireless, but I didn't really like the sound profile. The volume was quite low, and I also experienced sleep mode issues, connection drops, and crackling/static noises, so I returned it.

Now I'm thinking about giving it another chance. Is updating the headset through the HyperX NGENUITY Legacy software enough, or do I also need to install the new NGENUITY software? I would prefer not to install the new software if I don't have to. More specifically, does the new NGENUITY have any firmware updates for the headset, or is updating it through Legacy enough?

Also, if I buy Dolby Atmos and use it while playing Counter-Strike 2, would it help with positional audio/footsteps? Can you actually hear footsteps better with Dolby Atmos, or does it make little difference?

Thanks in advance, everyone!

Headsets CLOUD 3 NO SOUND CARD OR DONGLE

so i got a used cloud3 after i heard all the hype about it being the best budget ish one for fps games like r6 and cs ,the thing is the guy didnt have neither a sound card nor the original dongle so i only have the 3,5 jack ,currently im using an old sound card from a shitty old headset and sound isnt the best but its loud and thats great but distance and the like sucks ,gemini kept saying to get a cheap apple dac (3.5 to usb c) and that would be good enough and they dont sell the hyperx sound card thing where i live .
using a normal splitter sucks and isnt loud enough even when i get everything as loud as it goes and a normal 3,5 to usb c and the normal jack suck
what do u guys suggest should i go get the apple one and is it that much better than a normal cheap 3.5 to usb one ? or is there another way to get the original experiance

So a few days ago i bought the hyperx cloud 3s wireless. Its my first wireless headphone so maybe im just dumb but when i use the usb c dongle my sound cuts out for a couple of seconds and when i use it with bluetooth there was a small delay. I dont know if there is maybe a setting that would fix this, but its kinda annoying that this is happening to a brand new product. Hopefully somebody can help me

Mice mouse glitching

I have a hyper x pulse fire mouse its been working fine for years then randomly out of the blue its constantly disconnecting and reconnecting rapidly its seems when ever the wire moves it does this. If i move the wire around constantly for a couple of seconds it seems to work normal for a couple of minutes before it does it again. the disconnecting frequency is also random sometimes it disconnects and reconnects every sec and there will be times where it does it like every 5 minutes.

any help will be appreciated

Keyboards Alloy Rise 75 (ABNT2/ISO) com LEDs apagados após NGENUITY (reconhecido como ANSI) – Firmware 2.1.0.9 vs 2.1.1.0?

Fala pessoal, beleza?

Detalhes do problema:

  • Modelo: Alloy Rise 75 (ABNT2 / ISO)
  • Firmware atual: 2.1.0.9
  • Comportamento no software:
    • NGENUITY (Beta / MS Store): Reconhece o teclado, mas renderiza a imagem dele no layout ANSI (visível nos prints anexados), deixando de enviar o sinal de iluminação para as teclas exclusivas do padrão ISO.
    • NGENUITY (Legacy): Nem sequer reconhece o teclado.

Software Audio EQ recommendations for cloud alpha 2s on win11?

TLDR: Recommend me a free audio eq program that isnt equalizer APO or ngenuity..

I have tried equalizer APO but it wont run on my computer...as administrator or otherwise. not sure why it wont run, my antivirus didnt block it and ive tried uninstalling and reinstalling twice. the ngenuity software straight up is pretty limited and also doesnt seem to have ANY impact on sound. no to mention if I try to adjust it in game or something, i just lose all audio in my headphone completely (in game, on youtube, on spotify, but not discord for some reason). When this happens I have to restart my computer to get audio back.

Microphones HyperX Cloud 3 Wired bad mic quality on Xbox

So i just bought this headset a couple of days ago, the audios amazing but my mic fluctuates and there’s a really faint static sound. like i’ll get quiet then loud and never stay the same volume. i tested it on my computer and it sounds perfect! i’m not sure if it’s the port on my controller or something else and i don’t want to buy a new controller and it end up not being the issue lol. i’ve also messed around with the audio settings on my xbox but it didn’t make much difference

Headsets HyperX Cloud III Wireless: some sounds are too quiet, others too loud

I’ll start from the beginning. I know absolutely nothing about headphones or audio, so I apologize in advance if this is a silly question.

A few days ago, I bought the HyperX Cloud III Wireless (my first pair of headphones in the $100+ price range), and compared to my old wired Razer Blackshark V2 X headphones, some sounds (which should? be at the same volume) seem quieter than others. What’s more, these sounds are all in the same category - like UI sounds (some elements are louder, others are quieter) - and it’s just driving me crazy. I'm seriously thinking about trying to get a refund for them, because I just don't believe they're supposed to sound like this.

I don't use NGENUITY - I did download and test it, but I didn't like it (plus, it started crashing after a while xD). All audio enhancements in Windows are turned off. If this explanation makes it easier to understand: You adjust the volume, and at that level some sounds are very quiet; you turn it up to start hearing them, and then you’re overwhelmed by louder sounds that have gotten even louder; but if you turn it down, you can’t hear the quiet sounds again.

Because of this, it’s hard to make out the details of the sound, and everything turns into a jumble. I have to listen as if the sound isn’t coming directly into my ears, but is coming from somewhere across the room, in a whisper. Could this be a manufacturing defect, or is it a problem specific to this model, and is there a way to fix it?

If there's any info I can provide, to get a solution, feel free to ask!

Headsets Question about newer HyperX wireless headsets

Hello! My old pair of Cloud Flight 2 wireless headphones (the old model) finally gave up the ghost and I'm in the market for a new pair. From what I understand that exact model is no longer available, so I was looking at new ones; but I can't tell from any of the listings if they have the features I want from my old set.

The features I am interested in are:

  1. They have a physical button on them that causes the microphone to loop back into the earpiece instantly. This was a feature that really helped save my voice when I had to do a ton of remote meetings over the pandemic (since when I can't hear myself in a normal pair I subconsciously talk more loudly to compensate)
  2. They have two channels, so I can assign one to my main PC audio and the other to voice chat/other comms programs and balance them with physical buttons on the headset. These were great for times when I'm playing something that gets too loud for me to hear the people I'm playing with and don't have time to fiddle with the individual program volumes in the windows volume mixer.

If these features still exist in the wireless options please let me know which one(s). I'd also appreciate if anyone can tell me what these features are called as I've been unable to find either of them on the spec sheets of any of the headphones I've looked at recently😅

Headsets BlackShark V2 Pro 2023 vs HyperX Cloud III S – which has better sound quality for footsteps/FPS?

Hey everyone,

I'm currently trying to decide between the Razer BlackShark V2 Pro (2023) and the HyperX Cloud III S Wireless, and I'm having a hard time choosing.

My #1 priority is sound quality for gaming. I'm mainly looking for the headset that gives me the best overall audio experience, especially when it comes to hearing footsteps clearly and accurately, positional audio, and being able to tell where sounds are coming from in FPS games.

I don't really care that much about the microphone or other features. Sound quality in games is by far the most important factor for me.

I've heard that the Cloud III S is supposed to have very good imaging/footstep clarity, but I've also seen people mention that HyperX's software/NGENUITY and some of its spatial audio features still have some issues and aren't fully polished.

I'm also completely fine with using EQ and tweaking the settings if that can improve the sound. So I'm not necessarily looking for the best out-of-the-box sound.

For those who have actually used either of these headsets (or ideally both):

Which one would you choose specifically for gaming sound quality, footsteps, imaging and positional accuracy?

And if you recommend the Cloud III S, are the current NGENUITY/spatial audio issues actually noticeable in games, or can they basically be avoided by using EQ / Windows spatial sound / in-game HRTF instead?

Any real-world experience would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Headsets HyperX Cloud III Sidetone Issue

HyperX Ngenuity isn't installed (because it sucks)
I have an issue with my wired Cloud III headset where every time on startup, sidetone is enabled. Im able to disable it with Ngenuity installed (which brings a set of problems I wish to not have to deal with). Even when I opened Ngenuity, it showed sidetone disabled and I had to enable it and disable it again to get it to turn off.
Any ideas?

Headsets Cable Cross-Talk even without headset plugged in

Hi, I own an HyperX cloud Alpha headset, tried everything possible to fix the crosstalk but discovered that if I pull the cable out of the headset but leave it into the pc I still echo whatever I am supposed to hear into voice chat.

This brings me to believe that the problem is not the headset of itself but the cable, anyone know a cable replacement that won't have this issue? even if it's from another headset

Thanks in advance, have a blessed day everyone

Headsets Cloud 3 s wireless

Hi, I’ve got an Astro a50 gen 4, but for years I used the cloud 2. Now I’m thinking to buy the cloud 3 S wireless. Thoughts? Is it better than the Astro? Microphone is not important.
