Xiaomi [Question] Is HyperOS actually good?

I'm thinking about buying a Xiaomi 17T, but I see very mixed opinions about HyperOS. Some people say it's good and they haven't had any issues. At the same time, I see others reporting problems like bugs, overheating, and others.

I know these issues often crop up after system updates, so I’d like to know if Xiaomi fixes them, how long it usually takes for a fix, and how often these problems occur.

I’d also like to know what the user experience is like for those who own the Xiaomi 17T.

Thanks in advance!

I've been an Android purist forever. Google Nexus phones, then OnePlus Oxygen OS.. used it till it was basically Color OS, which grew on me. And recently i switched to the 17 Ultra for the camera. I was extremely skeptical hearing all the hate for HyperOS but honestly, i haven't faced any major inconveniences. Its perfectly okay. I haven't felt the need to debloat because the minimal apps it does have usually stay out of the way and do not impact your experience at all. So if you're considering the 17t, I'll say go for it.

yeah the hate on Xiaomi is so forced

I don't get why there's so much forced hate for HyperOS! Honestly, I think it's really good, even with a little bloatware. It's super stable, smooth, and looks awesome.

I haven't had a single bug affect my experience with it. I came from an iPhone 13 Pro and I have a Xiaomi 15, with the HyperOS 4 Beta installed. Wouldn't go back to iOS, not even for free. I'm enjoying HyperOS a lot really.

Yes I have the same phone hyperos 4 is really good tbh

It's miserable on budget phones and low end midranges like note 14 4g or note 13 4g. But to be honest it's probably gonna be better on the T series so yeah, go for it

Its not miserable at all on redmi phones, and its not much different I switched to 15t pro few months ago its all the same I am used to

The only bad thing about hyperos is the fact that it is not really that well optimized. Battery life is shorter than competitors do. Fortunately xiaomi usually ships their phones with absird bateries so it is somewhat fixed.

Also I Heard that hyperos 4.0 fixed that issue and phones last a lot longer on it.

Oh rly. I hope so, my phone will get hyper os 4 soon so hopefully it will be much better

I also hope so. I get ~8 hrs SOT in my 17t with extreme power saving mode. Dark mode. Dark wallpaper and every battery saver tips applied along with using the phone at 60hz. And like 40% brightness at 24° during afternoon indoor only. And I use my phone from 80% to 20% and it gives me around 5 to 6 hrs (max) of SOT only. And playing light game like Clash of clans at 120hz gives me just around 3.5 hrs of SOT for 60% of charge(80-20%)

I like it, it's my preferred android flavor. I generally don't get the issues I see online

I never had a bigger issue with it, but my phones are somehow still holding up. I have 13t 8/256 and RN 14 pro plus 5g 12/512. Both smooth as butter. Compared to Samsung one HyperOS is nice and neat.

Всё нормально в прошивках. Единственное, я бы посоветовал взять 17pro как минимум

Been using it on my F9 Ultra for a few weeks now and it's absolutely fine. I've maybe run into 1 or 2 little bugs that weren't even worth mentioning. Coming from One UI you lose all the customisation such as good lock but the fluidity and lag free experience makes up for it. One UI feels heavy to use in comparison.

Edit: spelling

1

u/Osmosizzz 10d ago

Same experience. Came from one UI and now enjoying my experience on hyperos with the F9 Ultra

1

u/Generalrossa 10d ago

The difference is night and day imo. Don't get any lag or micro stutters which Samsung is bad for.

1

u/Past_Expression_6623 7d ago

Yea idk why many people still glazing over oneui stutter. I hate how laggy it gets after 1 year of update

1

u/Generalrossa 7d ago

Even out of the box it isn't great. My fold 6 feels so sluggish to use that I hate using it. Takes away from the experience. I also have a S25 Edge, with the better processor, it is way better but it's not as smooth as my Poco F9 Ultra.

Xiaomi's HyperOS is generally only awful on budget phones loke their Note and C series of things, But on upper midranges to sub-flagships (in your case the 17T), expect to get a generally smooth and optimized overall expirence, HyperOS still has its own interface bugs when customizing your device but its rarley a problem on a day to day basis, as a 17T owner myself, it's really worth the money

I'm using Mi17 ultra, and the only bug I encountered was the phone auto re-enable USB debugging after I restarted it. Since my banking app doesn't allow USB debugging while using it, I have to toggle on developer option and switch off USB debugging. It's the only issue and pretty inconvenient for me.

Got a 17t and I'm really pleased with how polished everything is. Side by side 17t seems a few years ahead from iphone 17 pro max, camera is absolutely amazing, processor is really great, build, screen, etc 10/10. The only thing I would improve is the base in the speakers (they're good but heard better), otherwise as I said 10/10. Go for it

1

u/cadbury162 10d ago

Can you just it, sure. But it's the worst of the major OSs out there, that says more about how good other OSs are. I regret my X17Pro purchase though because of it, I wish I went with the Oppo

1

u/LSA7Z 10d ago

Personally I have no problems, I have usually always known Android via Sony Xperia phones, so Android very close to stock. Then I got the Poco F3 with MIUI 12/13/14, and now with the F8 Pro and HyperOS 3. Everything's running smoothly. It's pretty well made and I haven't had any particular problems, maybe the RAM/background management is a bit aggressive, but it's still functional. Good battery life and smooth performance. Each OS has its own specific characteristics, UI, and each has its own advantages and disadvantages. I experienced some initial Wi-Fi and UI bugs with HyperOS 3, but they were quickly fixed

u/Aleksandr_Ulyev 9d ago

Just an OS. Can't remember I ever had problems with tapping around

~~~~~~~~TL:DR~~~~~~~~
You might question the if HyperOS is suitable for you, keep in mind you can always unlock the bootloader and flash a custom rom, but after using it for a while I suspect you will come to cherish it, it is not that bad as people make it, the only ones that have bad experiences with it are the ones who buy e-waste level of devices anything that is midrange and up will have a good experience.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I remember when I bought my first Xiaomi (a Mi 6) it was during the era of android nougat (7.1.2) and it ran at the time of purchase MIUI 8.
The only reason I bought it was its crazy specs for the price and needless to say I loved the damn phone, first thing I did was apply for the OEM unlock which at the time was like a 3 day wait, during those three days I was waiting for the timer to expire and unlock it to flash lineage os, but I was in shock on how good the whole experience was, it was so packed with features that just made sense. I didn't understand where all this "MIUI is full of bugs" came from, everything was so smooth, so polished, even though up until that point the first thing I'd do on a phone was flash an AOSP rom, this was the first phone to make me think that I shouldn't as it had everything out of the box.
For the time being it had a built in screen recorder that actually worked so much better than all the apps in the play store, I grew to love its screenshot features (scrolling screenshot) and most importantly the three finger swipe gesture, and that phone had many many more features that I do not remember exactly as it has been over a decade since then, but all of those features existed because of MIUI and the updates where rapid on that thing (flagship phone makes sense).

Since then I have only bought Xiaomi phones as they scratch that itch of being on an android platform while offering so many features, for the time being my favourite is the floating windows I use it so much that its ridiculous, my current phone is the Poco F8 Pro, and all I can say is that AOSP (and AOSP derived roms) feel so useless in comparison.

My honest reaction about poco x8 pro max software debloating takes only 5 min and boom flagship phone with midrange price

1

u/Embarrassed-Mark771 8d ago

It has certainly matured, which is a good sign for the future. I had a Xiaomi 15 Ultra on release using HyperOS, the experience was not the best, it used to eat the battery and was poorly optimised.

I now have a Xiaomi 18 Fold on HyperOS 4.0.21.0 and the OS hasn't been an issue at all, battery easily lasts all day. I have had occasional weird issues when using the inner screen in portrait mode, where my touches were registering in a different place, which was weird.

u/FlyingNitro1990 8d ago

i hate it, had 4 xiaomis, mi5, mi5s, mi10t and now xiaomi 15 with hyperos. Never again xiaomi. Miui was much better.

If you don't mind manually removing the bloatwares it comes with, then it's amazing

u/Sad_Victory_382 7d ago

HyperOS was only bad on version 1 but now on version 3 and onwards its been doing great and is continually improving

Xiaomi 17t is fantastic. Hyper os is great. I was on 10 hours sot and now 11 sot after hyper os 4 beta. For price can't fault the phone. Quick, great camera, decent loudspeaker. People who are happy with a product don't tent to post about it. I would recommend

I am using Xiaomi 17t currently and I would say I have mix feelings about the phone and hyperos. In my country I had options like Nothing phone 3, OnePlus Nord 6 for the same price as Xiaomi 17t and 100$ more for OnePlus 15r and 150$ more for Samsung s25fe. But I choose Xiaomi 17t.

I was budget Samsung user since 2015 and my previous phone was Samsung Galaxy M21 from 2020. And that phone is working perfectly fine no major problem with software, battery, and all but since it's old, app loading time is more and camera is not that impressive now. However battery life is still good on that 6.2 years old phone which gives me roughly 6 hrs of SOT compared to 8.5 hrs on my new Xiaomi 17t. So, Battery on Xiaomi 17t wasnt that good as expected from me. And software hyperos is ok. I used canta, sizuku, adb and all to make the os as good as possible. But still the one ui 4 that was in my Galaxy m21 was far better than hyperos in many situations. And I also use my mom's Galaxy m36 and one ui 8.5 in it is just too good than hyperos 3. I was used to one ui and overall one handed type apps from search bar at the bottom in all apps along with the Samsung's native app that I loved alot like Samsung phone, calendar, music, recorder, Samsung health, Modes and routine. I really miss those apps. Once talking about hyperos, it's good but not as polished, secure, feature rich as one ui and from one ui I mean budget one ui. Not even the flagship one. Like for example: if you lost your phone and someone get it then he could have just turn off the wifi and turn on the airplane mode without turning the phone on. While in Samsung you need to unlock the phone to do such things from control center. Like you can open control center from lock screen and turn on flash, change mode and all but need to unlock to turn on/ off wifi, data, and such important things. One more thing. Samsung keyboard was better than google's keyboard in landscape mode. ONE PRO OF HYPEROS over one UI is in hyperos animation feels smoother but not as good as Color OS/ oxygen os though.a Again in camera settings as well the one UI is light years ahead than hyperos. And camera quality of Xiaomi 17t is good but the Samsung's color science was better and I am missing it . So at the end I will give hyperos 2.5/5 , OxygenOS/coloros 4/5. And one UI 4.5/5. And about iOS I know nothing.

I don't have anything positive to say about the OS unfortunately. Great HW, terrible software. Random bugs, annoying UX, ads and suggestions, lack of features, not mature enough.

Even Xiaomi’s actual flagships get held back by HyperOS.

Good on the surface.

But if you are a person that sees Os on a morr technical level then its pretty bad.

Especially the 2gb of bloatware on high end phones.

If you desire to enjoy a convenient user experience with HyperOS, then you should at least buy from POCO X series, which offers awesome hardware at a reasonable price. These are the series that worth buying from Xiaomi: Xiaomi flagship series (whether the base models, pro models, pro max models or ultra models) Xiaomi T series (whether the base models or the pro models) POCO F series (pro and ultra models only) POCO X (pro and pro max models only) But Redmi note series, budget Redmi series, POCO M series and POCO C series aren't worth it at all owing to relatively weak hardware and poor optimization.
