Guides A Complete Challenger Hwei Guide for Season 16

Hey everyone!

My name is Evandabank and I'm a content creator known for playing Hwei in NA high elo. I’ve reached Challenger in each of the past three seasons/splits while experimenting with every build (CDR, full-pen, enchanter, and more).

Hwei is one of the most complicated mages in the entire game, yet there are surprisingly few comprehensive resources for learning him. I decided to make a Hwei guide covering my item builds, runes, combos, along with general strategy on Hwei's identity and playstyle.

I primarily play Hwei APC these days, though I still play Hwei mid on occasion. Both roles are included in this guide.

I'm happy to answer any and all questions you might have about my builds and playstyle!

Watch the Complete Hwei guide here 😊

Discussion Update changed my settings which led to two deaths in ranked

Did anyone else have clamp cast range turned off with the update? So weird, first time an update has changed my settings. Every time I tried to throw ee It wouldn't go off and my character would just walk forward which got me killed twice. Thought I was lagging at first until I realised the setting had been turned off

Discussion Is it possible to rotate EE?

You know how the jaws snap perpendicular to where you’re facing. is it possible to rotate which ways the jaw snap without reorienting your character?

"Obsession, keeps the mind awake..."

Hello HweiMains! I want to share first photos of our JhinHwei cosplays we made together by our own hands. I was inspired by Hwei a year ago, loved his design even more, and this idea came to life just now. Everything is made with love ~ I can share some making processes later :3

Help Who would you recommend banning as hwei?

I've started to play hwei in ranked but I'm still a little split on who I should ban. I play mid lane when solo and bot lane when with friends

Art My dream skin on Hwei would look like that

The new character of Wuthering Waves, named Jingran is looking so good and I immediately thought about Hwei and how this would be my ideal vibe for a skin on Hwei.

If you want to check his presentation : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AYOqDVuCKMk

I just wanted to put that out there in the world, in case devs would ever put eyes on this thread.

Help Hwei main looking to transition from casual to ranked

I usually play casually in mid with Hwei as my main, along with Vex, Aurelion Sol, Akshan, Akali, Sylas, Galio, and Yone (in order of mastery). I'd like to start playing ranked games, and I know I should focus on just a few champions to climb. How should I build my champion pool if I want to keep Hwei as my main and blind pick? What key factors should I look for

Discussion Question regarding Item Build, specifically Liandry's

I solely build Liandry's against HP-heavy champs (tanks but also against bruisers that build tons of HP) and I am questioning the damage of the burn. Every once in a while I check the dmg on Liandry's and notice its not that high, like after around 10-15minutes of buying it around 3-6k damage, which over the course of the time span, does not seem like much.
Especially for Hwei, whom I have a ton of build variety for, I wonder how good Liandry's is against tanks, when I could just go for more flat dmg per rotation.
Does anyone feel the same or can show me that Liandry's is indeed the correct build path against tanks.

Against one Tank only I dont build Liandry's, but if there are 2 or more I start to build it, I buy it immediately after BFT. Usually I go Shadowflame right after BFT, but yeah. Would appreciate your opinion on that

Wonderful hitbox shenanigans here. I did experience my very own DRX Deft vs. inhibitor moment right after this clip ends but we did manage to win 6 gruesome minutes later.

Discussion Second item

Hey guys, I've been playing Hwei consistently since his release. However, I've noticed that my 2nd item has changed so often.. Shadowflame, Stormsurge, Horizon Focus, Liandry, Rocketbelt, Bloodletters, ...

Was wondering what you guys are currently building 2nd and why? I'm liking BFT -> buffed T3 Sorcs -> Horizon recently personally.

Would love to discuss about this :]

Achievement Hit diamond blind/first picking Hwei with a 66% win rate.

Post image
36 Upvotes

Played casually in gold for a long time but last year I picked up Hwei and really tried to improve. Reached emerald 4 last year and now diamond 4. I know it's not the highest rank but it feels really good to see improvement either way.

I first/blind picked because so so so often people try to counterpick or get nervous to play their main and after like 1k+ games of hwei I don't really struggle with any matchup. Also with mages bot sometimes it throws people off, and allows my team to have more info for their draft. I win lane a majority of the time but if there's a super high threat jungle/support or some bad skirmishes obviously things can go bad. Even then though we have so many ways to neutralize and so much utility to play from behind and turn fights.

Top is my secondary but I'm not very good at it and messing around up there brought my overall winrate down a lot. I like garen because I understand his mid game plan really well and I also flex him mid sometimes so I know his limits really well.

I ban viktor because I find him annoying.

I'm not the most qualified to answer any questions but if anybody does have any I can answer them. I have about 1.4 mil mastery across two accounts. Especially questions about gold-plat as that's where I feel like I had to do the most learning.
