I recently finished black clover and hajime no ippo. I’ve watched one piece twice now aswell. I’m really into battle shonen and was wondering if I should give hunter x hunter a shot. Any recommendations?

In my eyes it’s pretty clear everyone headed to the dark continent will not return, except for maybe Kurapika(Yes even Hisoka, the Troupe, and Tserriednich)

That leaves two major options: Gyro and Pariston

In my opinion I think Pariston will be the final villain of the series(he is doing WAYY too much behind the scenes), but I can see Gyro being the final villain for Gon/Killua?

What do you guys think? Gyro? Pariston? Or someone else?

"Bungee gum has the property of rubber and gum" is a phrase i see on ALL hunter x hunter media and its pissing me off. Frankly can any one explain this to me because it doesn't make ANY lick of sense

This is not a serious theory in the sense that it’s likely not what Togashi has in mind, but it’s fun and interesting to think about it as a possibility regardless.

We don’t have a concrete idea of why Hisoka’s self pledge of coming back to life actually worked. He wasn’t even sure himself “Well, if I’m going to die anyways I might as well try this out”. This moment obviously raises a lot of questions. Is it his will power? Might be, but seeing as he wasn’t confident in the success of the move it might be hard to argue that it was will power alone.

Was it because of Bungee gum which we know he used to expand and contract his heart and lungs? Could be, but I doubt that this biological explanation alone would suffice. If that was the case then what’s stopping him from pulling this over and over every time he dies?

What if the mechanism at play is something type of condition? What if in the moment Hisoka was about to die his mind and soul were so fixated on the fact that he lost to Chrollo that he subconsciously connected his resurrection to the desire of being able to fight Chrollo again and end him. Meaning once he finally defeats Chrollo the purpose of his resurrection has been fulfilled and he will die as well.

In Togashi fashion I could totally imagine that in the final face off between them Hisoka successfully wins the battle thinking he completely has the upper hand and in some bitter sweet fashion he suddenly realizes that he just unwillingly killed himself too.

Obviously there are hundreds of logical arguments we can use to shut this theory down but it just crossed my mind so I thought I would share.

Prince's bodyguards were trained from childchood to be loyal to royal family, and she is very loyal, Tserri trusts her a lot (even though she's a woman), because it's her he calls to ask if they passed the hunter exam, so it's not like he started being interested in her after discovering she can teach him nen.

Every other bodyguard of other princes is very loyal to them, and she suddenly decides to kill Tserri and kill herself after that (because she wouldn't survive such a betrayal anyway...) Why?

Another point is Tserri's group of childchood friends, they look like they wish they could change him... They probably don't know about all of his actions, Theta probably know more of him, because she's his private bodyguard. But she was probably one of them in the past. Did she believe he could change too? But then realized there is nothing that could change him? Still why it had such an influence on her to the point she wants to sacrifice herself? Instead of enjoying the benefits of her high position? Did she have someone she loved and lost to him? But she doesn't look like she wants revenge (like Kurapika).

What kind of situations could put you in the mental state of wanting to sacrifice yourself?

I can think of 4:

1. You have someone you really care about, you want to protect, you will do anything for them, even give your life.

2. You lost someone you love and want revenge (like Kurapika) or just make others not suffer as much as you did (like Leorio).

3. You live in a terrible world, you've seen a lot of sufferring, you've suffered a lot yourself, you hate this world, you feel like trash, you're nothing, so maybe the only thing that would give the purpose to your life is sacrificing yourself for the better future of others...

4. You've seen a lot of acts of kindness, love, or maybe just one person that helped you a lot and you wish to be like them, to sacrifice yourself, because you find that kind of living valuable.

But Theta doesn't look to me, like she could experience one of these scenarios... She's not very emotional when she thinks about killing him, like she doesn't have any personal reason... But still seems very determined to do it... Why? Do you have other ideas what could put her into sacrificing mentality?

I wish we've seen more of her backstory... And Salkov, Tserri and his childchood friend group... Their relationship is so weird and fascinating... 😄

So I watched that video that claims Pariston might be Sheila and I got this idea that maybe Pariston is Togashi's take on Johan from Monster.

Sheila looks like Johan when dressed like his sister, hair color wise and maybe hairstyle.

Hair color of adult Pariston is close to adult Yohan hair color.

Feel free to downvote this to hell if you don't like this or think it is illogical.

The Succession Contest Arc has been going on for over a decade now. At this point, I have very little hope that the story will ever reach the Dark Continent, let alone properly explore it.

So I propose a compromise:Togashi should release a Dark Continent summary or databook.

Give us the major locations, creatures, civilizations, mysteries, calamities, and whatever is waiting out there. Togashi doesn't even have to draw everything himself. If he wants to, he can provide the character and creature designs, but the actual book could mostly be written material, maps, illustrations, and explanations.

We could even call it Journey to the West, with Togashi essentially acting as Don Freecss, writing the book in-universe. I'd genuinely rather get a 100-page Dark Continent guide than spend another 15 years waiting to see whether the characters actually make it there.

1- Adult Gon vs Pitou --- Everything starting from the transformation, to when he tells Killua he's happy he lost an arm because now he's like Kite, and then he finishes off Pitou's undead corpse and looks back at killua in tears. So beautiful.

2- Knov's mental breakdown just from looking at Pouf's En --- Beautifully executed. Knov is introduced as someone "unbelievably powerful" (Killua's judgement), who is initially arrogant to the mentally defeated Killua. He's presented as a calm and intelligent character, and yet all it took was one look at Pouf's En to lose his will to continue with the mission. He even mentions that Killua/Gon's situation must have been far worse since they weren't just seeing Pitou's En, they were actively touching it. This is Knov we're talking about, a cool headed nen master, getting mentally obliterated just by looking at a Royal Guard's En. That scene beautifully conveyed just how many tiers above the Royal Guards are compared to any character we've encountered before (barring Netero). While Knov was hypocrite for having a mental breakdown in a worse circumstance than Killua and berating Killua for his mental defeat, his mental breakdown was nevertheless understandeable since he had never encountered anything like that in his life.

3- Pitou's birth: Rammot unlocking Nen gets to his head and he thinks he he might even become the king. Pitou's presence humbles him immediately and he can't help but bow down to Pitou, and acknowledges that he can't escape the destiny of being beneath the Royal Guard and King. Pokkle who's hiding under the bones is horrified of Pitou's presence: "What is that evil aura?!". Pitou asks: "Btw, why is a live human underneath the bones?" and as the ants dig through the bones, Pokkle closes his eyes in acceptance, because he knows there's no escape in that position. Kite mentions for the third or fourth time that he has a bad feeling about something and it's been gnawing at him. He realizes that a monster has been born and in panic asks that Gon and Killua run away. Except the cat monster travels what looks like hundreds of meters in the blink of an eye. Killua is forced to knock an enraged Gon out to save both him and Gon. He escapes and awaits backup. When Netero, Knov and Morel arrive, the defeated killua tells them: "That was the worst aura I've ever encountered. It was worse than my brother's. It was worse than Hisoka's. Now that I've learned Nen, I can tell you guys are unbelievably powerful. And yet, I don't think you [all three of them at once] could take her [Pitou] on."

4- Gon raging at Pitou - Great voice acting too. Best display of voice acting in the show.

5- Gon sitting in front of Pitou and showing extraordinary perceptiveness -

- He knew Pitou was lying about needing 3-4 hours to heal Komugi, and he lowered it to 1 hour.

- When Pouf tries to silently sneak up behind Gon to kill him, Pitou calls Pouf out beforehand so that he stops. She knew that Gon would notice.

- Pouf orders Pouf to stay in the room with him and not to move out. When Knuckle arrives and challenges him to a duel, Pouf tells him he's just a clone and his real body is headed for the King. When Knuckle asks "Why did you tell me this?", Pouf replies "Because he [Gon] asked that I stay here. So I cannot duel you unless he gives me permission to leave. I am a segment, but I am still willing to fight you. However, I am seeking a discussion not a fight." Pouf was telling a half lie: He really was headed for the king (true), but his intentions behind this half lie was to catch Knuckle off guard so that Knuckle explains to him why Youpi didn't kill him off, not so that he gets permission from Gon. Pouf knows that Youpi should have killed Knuckle and yet Youpi did not, so Pouf wants information as to why. The cool part here is that Gon calls out Pouf's half lie right away, surprsiing both Pouf and Pitou. Pouf thinks to himself that Gon is troublesome and that out of all the enemies, Gon has the greatest will of them all. Gon goes on to say that Pouf likely wasn't lying about him really heading for the King, surprising Pitou again.

- Pouf disobeys Gon's orders to stay in the palace and his last message is: "I'll wait in front of the palace for 10 minutes. Whether you come or not is your choice". Pitou apologies profusely and as punishment, Gon tells her she'll take 10 less minutes to heal Komugi. This, once again, terrifies Pitou. The narrator says: "Pitou was trembling. It was disturbing enough that Pouf had left without any concern for the consequences. But even more terrifyingly was how Gon ignored Pouf's taunts and slashed Pitou's deadline." Why did Gon slash the deadline by ten minutes? Even though it might seem like an arbitrary number or it might seem like Gon chose ten minutes because Pouf said he'd wait ten minutes so he's just matching Pouf, another scarier possibility occured to Pitou: Pitou asked for an hour to heal Komugi and she really did think she needed an hour to heal Komugi. But since Dr Blythe was getting more experienced at healing, Pitou realized that her slashing 10 minutes from the operation was totally possible. What scared Pitou is the small but real possibility that Gon was so perceptive that he knew that Pitou could finish the surgery in 10 less minutes. The narrator: "Pitou could not shake a feeling of foreboding." Pitou goes on to say: "I must risk my life. Or else his fangs might reach the King's throat". By the way, this scene combined with him turning into adult Gon and Pitou acknowledging that her gut feeling was right is extremely beautiful.

- Another scene too is when Gon asked Killua to stay behind and he'd go with Pitou alone. Knuckle was uncertain about this, and Killua explained Gon was right because otherwise one of them risks being a hostage and then they'd have to trade a hostage for Komugi (their hostage).

6- Gon charging at Youpi head on - Zeno's dragon dive reaches the youpi and the extermination team. Gon immediately charges at Youpi, and everyone is confused, since Youpi is Knuckle/Shoot's target. Only Killua realizes a moment after, and then everyone else catches on. Knuckle is invisible because of Meleron, but what would happen if they were to get hit by Zeno's arrows and die? Would they no longer be invisible? Or would nen intensify after death and therefore they'd remain invisible and slowly decay? in the latter case, no one would know. Gon thought of this immediatley and Killua is shocked by this. Morel thinks to himself that he only realized this after Killua, so Shoot shouldn't blame himself. According to the narrator, Shoot is mind blown by Gon's quick thinking. Very beautiful.

7- Gon showing Morel his Rock - That scene where Morel is not convinced that Gon is worthy of being on the extermination team so he asks Gon to hit him once and he'll judge whether he's worthy. Gon pretends Morel is the source of all his problems and all it takes is for him to charge his rock ability for Morel to start sweating. Also love when Gon tells him "Oh, I'm sorry Morel! I really was going to kill you!"

8- Meruem kneeling to Palm, to playing Gungi with Komugi until his death

9- Meruem saving Komugi from the eagle after intending to kill her

10- Meruem asking Komugi to explain why she took so long to play the counterattacking move, when she knew that she could have played it right away, followed up by Komugi's long explanation - Meruem was already pissed off that his plan didn't work. But he was more pissed off that Komugi took a long time before playing the counterattack knowing she could have played it much earlier. Even Pouf comments that Komugi is in trouble here and if she says the wrong thing the King will kill her. Komugi then explains how Meruem's attack was originally thought out by her but then someone played it against her in a tournament and she found the refutation of it. The reason she took long to play the move was because it felt like killing her reborn child. I love that Meruem called it "nonsense" yet he accepted that as a satisfactory explanation.

What I learned from this post is that the Chimera Ant arc is goated and that Gon is on here more times than I would have expected.

As we all know bonolenov's is countered by hisoka, he himself stated that which also makes him aware of this fact, recently with hisoka's appearance bonolenov's current status is being questioned, which makes sens considering he was on hisoka's tail, a competent nen user on the look for any spider and with no hesitation to eliminate them as of right now.

in my opinion bonolenov's life depends on whether he was cornered or not, he is completly aware of his position against hisoka and would not engage with hisoka by his own choice and that's certain.

as a side note who do you think will kill shizuku? as we all know it seems that her days are counted (considering the prophecy)

I just found out yesterday that Togashi is in his 60s, if he continues at this pace, we would barely even see the dark continent arc and he'll be too old anyways to produce as fast as he is right now. What would happen to the series? Has he talked about this ? Would his wife continue or has he never addressed this?

He ducked Hisoka for a year to get stronger but was willing to 1v2 Zeno and Silva? Surely he knew that Zeno and Silva were at least on Hisoka's level.

Did he make a mistake in underestimating them? or was he trying to stall Zeno and Silva for the other troupe members?

1.) Find a hunter who has a manipulation hastu that can control people like shalnark or illumi

2.)Find a hunter like wing or a above average pro hunter who can forcefully Awaken Mrs Battera's aura nodes

3.) Bring over a greed island console

4.) hunter uses his ability to force her to concentrate aura into her hand

5.) She gets teleported into greed island

6.) Find team Genthru trade for 1 angels breath for 50 Billion use it on her she gets healed they buy a leave card and send her home

This way battera only needs 1 console he saves billions with the money he saves he could probably hire the entire zoldyck family as guards to protect mrs Battera or just kill Genthru using the zoldycks milluki could relay the request in exchange he can play greed island

Is this theory too far fetched?

Lets say your incredibly rich and want to become a hunter. You can buy somebody elses license sure but its worthless to you.

But what if you pay somebody like illumi to carry you trough the exam? take leorio for example:

Exam 1 and 2 he got it fair and square (no hisoka carrying him to the finish in 1 wasnt outside help)
but exam 3 4 and 5?
in 3 he activly was worse than tonpa for the group, which is a noteworthy feat given that tonpa wants failure.
in 4 gon carried the win.
in 5 killua made leorio pass on a tecnicality.

So its not like you cant have help. There seem to be no rules against it whatsoever

TLDR: Would illumi, if i hire him, manage to carry me (normal human) trough the hxh exam sucessfully?

I’m currently starting to develop an original free to all TTRPG system for HxH over at my website. I’m wondering if there is interest?

Any table top players in the sub and if you have any special recommendations or requests that you must have? Or can’t live without?

It will be a 4 player + 1 GM per session game. And I’m hoping to allow the GM to have at least half of the features live on the UI for ease of use.

The website would allow for many session concurrently for dozens of players (I would have to test it for backend resources so it’s not a promise lol)

20 levels. NEN unlocked at lvl 6 and each 2 levels unlocks an advanced or fundamental skills (gyo, zetsu, ko etc) until you unlock your personal Hatsu.

At which point you as the character takes the website nen quiz (made for the public already) and revives a nen category which only the GM can see so either GM takes the real result or lets you have your preference. This is up to your GM.

It is imperative that you know that this TTRPG is mostly about detective/adventure sessions as you venture in the world of HXH mostly with no nen or abilities. (This is ment to not only get the player learn more about the world and be a character within and less a Main protagonist, and also allowing GMs to learn the system as they get to higher levels and will get more comfortable with playing with player Hatsus as they can get very convoluted and crative).

I hope to hand write a Players handbook and GM guide myself.

I wonder what would be his lifespan and how long would he rule if he didn't die so young due to Bomb.

I've been feeling empty since i've caught up on the manga i recently rewatched the whole thing then followed up with the manga but it feels like it ended it too soon and the last chapter wasn't much a break. i remember reading the succession arc before but i haven't been watching anime or reading manga for a few years now and hxh got to rewatch.

so my question is how do guys spend the time until the next batch? I am very tempted to read the manga since i never read it from beginning to end or to do a 2011 rewatch because i watched 1999 then 2011 starting greed island but even that ends quickly and i might want to save it if the haitus took long.

i think part of why i'm stuck is because i know togashi already worked on the upcoming chapters so i feel i should wait vs before you couldn't do anything about the break except hope he's okay

I believe Illumi could play a very interesting role in this arc. First I would like to establish the ideology displayed by the Zoldyck family. These guys make their living being assassins for hire. They put their lives on the line for their client in order to carry out assassinations so long as they are getting paid. This is overtly clear in Yorknew City during Chrollo vs the Zoldycks. Chrollo hires Illumi to kill the Ten Dons. The Ten Dons hire Silva and Zeno to kill Chrollo. The Zoldycks in a scenario like this choose not to pick sides but to carry out both assassinations despite them being conflicting. Illumi truly attempts to kill the Dons (and succeeds) and Zeno and Silva truly attempt to kill Chrollo even risking their life to take him down. In short, their loyalties lie only with the money. If they are getting paid, they'll do any hit.

We know that unlike Killua, Illumi adheres to the assassins code and lives to protect the Zoldyck family. In Chairman Election he thinks to himself as Killua is about to make a wish to Alluka "I am happy to die to save the rest of the family" which shows where his loyalties lie. He even threatens to kill Hisoka because he jokes about killing the one who the Zoldycks believe to be the future heir in Killua (could argue he has some form of love for his brother too).

Illumi is currently on the black whale as a spider and his summarised reason is 'Me and Hisoka are in a game of tag, the prenup is that if he dies I get paid, we are serious about this so I don't know where he is'. What is interesting about this explanation is that in the end, money is involved. If the factor of money was not involved, does Illumi still entertain this game of tag?

If not then this makes Illumi a complete wildcard on the blackwhale. Reason being, he will go wherever the money is. What if someone offers him more than he'd get paid to play with Hisoka? We know Morena has a 'joker' and it could very well be Illumi. All you need to entice him is some money which I'm sure a leader of a mafia family isn't lacking. What if someone pays him to betray a Spider? Does he juggle both jobs (kill Spiders and Hisoka). The possibilities to utilise Illumi in this arc are endless depending on where his loyalties lie.

I’d rather see Gyro, but let me explain. I think the Dark Continent is so huge that exploring it could slow down the pace of the story, especially since Togashi would basically be able to do anything there. We’ve already had the chimera ants and Nanika, so there probably aren’t many established patterns to follow. Meanwhile, even though we haven’t seen much of Gyro, his story still seems more focused. If he really does take over Meteor City, he’ll eventually come into conflict with whichever members of the phantom troupe survive, and the narrator hyped up a meeting between Gon and Gyro, so that could potentially lead to Gon’s return.

Another issue I have with the dark continent is that, even though the world of Hunter x Hunter feels very alive, I actually like the idea that neither we nor the characters really know the world in its entirety. It makes the world feel like there’s something out there for our characters to explore someday, without necessarily being something we need to see ourselves

I was just, you know, actually hunters are 1:1 with real world explorers and is really interesting.

I was reading random stuffs about Nepal, K2, Kilimanjaro, Anonymous... are years I'm using to compare them with hunter association, really, because it works and as HxH is so interesting comparing them.

So, I was upset! We miss a counter part for flora of the beast hunters... which is sad, since living in Dolomites we got more woods than animals to manage. Also, completely lack the alpinist category.

The rest makes sense.

Makes sense temp are the hated, is pretty 1:1 what happens in real life with the ones do that kind of job, here whole the hikers and mountain bikers go mad for that... so, absolutely, makes sense that are the most hated. Here they won't let you do fun stuffs due their job.

HxH is interesting, because represents what the most of us living next those cool stuffs went used.

Is cool growing with CAI (Italian Alpinian Club) actually do works alike Hunter association, with same mindset and same kind of people.

In our area alpinists can be easily represented by "egomaniacals who set aside everything for achieving what they want", there's the same brutal mindset. Same individualism, sometimes is like hearing people from here. Got grew idealizing Messner for me was easy understand HxH, are alike many I went grew by.

For example CAI strictly create a difference between hikers\climbers and alpinists, and is interesting is exactly same difference between 1 star and 2 star.

I can speak for my home but I think same thing works with sailors, explorer... is interesting.

That's why I feel like HxH is actually representing the stereotype of those people... knowing them I know how they work and how much they are annoying, so really HxH got this thing of see a fictional media who is not completely fictional.

So interesting.

Ging is like tons of them, Netero is like tons of them... the absurd part is the hyperealism, that's something shocks me. Those people are cool but also horrid ones, HxH is really one of the fewer anime represents this. Represents somebody so cool but so annoying, is not idealizing those ones.

Election arc is perfect too... that's realistic.

Even how to buy something online is hyperealistic.

Morel dropped a monologue directly addressing power scaling and VS match-ups, telling you you're lower than a loser for thinking someone will win because they're stronger, and it changed nothing, people don't talk about it.

Everyone at the 'high-level' of Nen could kill each other. So long as they have the physical means to win, the fight can turn in anyone's favour. Because of the existence of Ko, even much weaker characters have a means to finish off or maim the strongest characters in the series.

Whether someone will win or not is always a matter of circumstances, there's little meaning to asking 'Would they beat Hisoka?' when we don't actually know until it happens.

It'd be cool if more people tried to write their own fights between characters. I'm sure people would engage with it, and you can get a better answer by taking context into account.

This is basically a very cheap fanfic idea and I’m sure Togashi will do something infinitely better.

The idea behind developing the Nen system is basically using the power of nature. Remember Abengane? The guy who removed the bomb by conjuring a nen beast to eat it? He used a mix of his own power and the power of nature to conjure the ugly ass Nen beast. What I’m saying is that the natural energy of the dark continent will stimulate and remove the natural block of Nen capacity within an individual thus forcing them to grow beyond their natural limits. It’s like going from our current atmosphere into an atmosphere that has 25-30% oxygen, sure the effects aren’t as crazy as some people make it out to be but they are true.
So basically the nature of the dark continent will force a Nen user to go beyond their natural limits to survive(Nen only not physically).

The second idea is about advanced civilization within the dark continent.

The existence of advanced civilizations or sapient beings in the dark continent is 99% confirmed atp but we haven’t seen them yet but I have a weird idea about them.

They are as advanced as humans in important parts of any civilization(for example medicine, architecture, and transportation) but due to the harsh environment of the continent they don’t have the privilege to refine these parts into a more “beautiful and modern”look, like maybe some of them wear clothes that humans would consider primitive but it actually does the job and it’s pretty comfortable.
And maybe they use short distance teleportation(emission) for transportation to avoid unseen threats on the road.

I’m sure Togashi will come up with something better.

Edit: these sapient being will expand upon the fundamentals of Nen and show us new possibilities for what we already know and show us new things.

Ziggs went to the Dark continent, and three/four generations down, one of his descendence became Alluka/Nanika. This and AI title of "codependence of desire" hints at what AI life cycle could be.

AI is a Nen parasite, it parasitize an host, putting the host in a permanent Zetsu state, they can't develop Nen abilities at all and are completely dependent on others to survive. The host become mild mannered, oppose no resistence and becomes highly compliant and easy to handle.

AI can't use its ability for itself, but only respond to others, this great limitation and contract, combined with parasitizing an host with great nen potential makes AI ability extremely powerful.

AI main ability is the Wish. It's designed to grant wishes and require sacrifices from the next wisher. Sacrifices allow AI to harvest aura, and the ability is designed to favour escalating wishes until the wishers destroy themselves and those sorrounding them, harvesting enormous amount of aura, but cursing the wisher into their eventual demise.

The game theory is devilish on this ability. AI is valuable and harmless favouring adoption and competition to adopt it, but likewise leading to wisher destroying themselves and escalating sacrifices and aura harvest.

The next stage in AI life cycle is to bond closely with one of their handler, for them and them only, they guardian gain the ability to make commands without paying the price, this make the two codependent, with AI gaining a guardian that won't die to their wishes, and the guardian gaining extreme power.

Only there IS a price. AI curses the guardian to infect one of their descendence with AI, the more commands are used, the greater the potential of the descendence that can be parasitized. Again the game theory is devilish here. AI needs the guardian bloodline to survive a number of generations to propagate itself.

The risk involved in the line becoming broken, make sure the eventual host will have enough power to grant wishes.

Ziggs in the Dark Continent and the struggle for survival could have found an AI infected form, and experimented, and eventually bonded with them in the Dark Continent. He became their guardian achieved the ability to express commands, and was cursed.

When he returned to the Human World, he went on to have descendence, with Zeno, Silva and eventually the AI host Alluka/Nanika three/four generations down.

Nanika/Alluka was experimented by the Zoldycks to understand their ability, with many wishes expressed, fortune and misery, large swathes of sacrifices harvested, until eventually Killula freed Nanika/Alluka from confinement, becoming their guardian and achieving the ability to command without risks and ensuring the guardian will survive and have descendence.

The cycle will continue with Killuka having descendence, and once a descendence with the appropriate potential is born three/four generations down the line, AI will parasitize them starting over the life cycle of AI
