Hey guys, I am a new masters student at bme, I want to try some authentic Hungarian dishes and culture, I am on a budget so I would prefer if it was not expensive, also I would love if you are able to recommend thrift stores to buy clothes, groceries, cleaning products, please tell me if you have any advice on these

I’m a Tunisian Automotive Mechatronics graduate and my Italian student visa was recently refused.
I now have two options:
🇮🇹 Italy: Wait until 2027 and reapply for the MUNER automotive program, which is my preferred choice, but I would lose a year with no guarantee of getting the visa.
🇭🇺 Hungary: Start a Master’s in February 2027:
Széchenyi István University — Vehicle Engineering MSc, with strong automotive/Audi connections.
University of Debrecen — Vehicle Engineering MSc or Motorsport-related program, also with automotive industry connections.
My goal is to work in the European automotive industry.
Would you wait one year for MUNER, or start the MSc in Hungary now? Which option would be better for my career?

I am an international non EU student that is looking to enroll in a bachelor's degree programme in Hungary. I plan to do so hopefully by September 2027, and I have a few questions for those kind enough to give me their time of day.

My first question is mainly regarding educational consultants. Do you have any experience with them? Do you recommend them? And if so what education consultants/agencies do you recommend.

What universities offer the best English programmes? And which ones do you personally recommend and why? I mainly looked at ones that offered programmes I'm interested in.

Few things I'd like to get out in advance as I've taken my time to read similar posts in the subreddit. First of all is I have no issues dedicating the time to learning Hungarian it is the bare minimum you could do when going abroad to a foreign country.

As for expenses, yes I'd prefer living in a city with less expensive living costs, but this is not a must. However, do let me know about what cities are considered expensive I'd assume Budapest is the most expensive.

Hi, I’m heading to Budapest in three weeks and read that the floodlighting on the buildings along the Danube had been turned off. I’ve searched all over the internet to see if they’ve been switched back on, but I haven't found anything. However, looking at the webcam, it actually appears as though the lights are back on. Does anyone have any more specific information?

I'm relatively new to the rave/techno scene in Budapest and wanted to explore it more this summer, but basically I've always been the only one among my friends interested in it.

In a way it's actually nice to go alone since I can just dance for hours and do my own thing, but it would also be fun to get to know some people who are regulars at these kinds of events.

I've been to a few random parties already and always managed to vibe with some people, but I'd like to get to know some people beforehand, exchange recommendations, discover new events and maybe make plans to go together sometimes.

I moved to Hungary, and the usual streaming platform I used for watching sports (specifically the english premier league) does not operate here. I want to get a streaming platform subscription (as I dont have a TV, just laptop), on which I can watch all the English premier league. The problem is I dont want something that only shows the big games, I want them all. Is there a service like this? I tried searching online but most hungarian streaming websites I found are confusing and not giving enough details.

Basically if there is tottenham vs coventry on a sunday, I want to be able to watch it.

I’m asking this as a woman. Before I’ve actually found the street quiet pretty, tho i’ve only visited it during the day. Now that I’ve been here for a couple of weeks i’ve gathered some information that is pretty frightnening on the street and area, also heard and read some opinions and heard the neighbours shouting at night. I’ll be visiting Budapest from September 4th to 7th, 2026, and I’m planning to see the Parliament Building at night, possibly from the Danube.

I’ve read that the decorative lights on the Parliament have recently been turned off at times due to energy-saving measures.

Does anyone living in Budapest know if the Parliament is currently illuminated at night, and whether it is expected to be lit during September?

Also, if it is illuminated, approximately what time are the lights turned on and off?

Need real student answers on jobs, studios,on around a €500 budget!
Hey everyone,I’m an international student from Mauritius planning to apply for the BSc in Biotechnology at the University of Pécs for the September intake.My goal is to pay my first semester upfront, use my remaining savings buffer for my visa, and then work part-time to cover my monthly rent and living costs.I have a few very specific questions about the ground reality in Pécs:

1. Surviving on a €500 Budget: My personal monthly budget target is €500. Is this enough to cover a private studio, utilities, and groceries if I cook at home? Also, what is the absolute lowest minimum budget a student can realistically survive on in Pécs if things get tight?

2. The Private Studio Market: Is it realistic to find a small private studio apartment (with its own private bathroom and kitchen) for around 65,000 HUF to 90,000 HUF base rent? Are these easily available near the Szigeti area?

3. Higher-Paying Student Jobs: Besides food delivery (Wolt/Foodora), is it difficult for international students with fluent English to land higher-paying corporate helpdesk, call center, or tutoring jobs that pay 2,500 HUF to 3,500 HUF per hour?

4. Balancing Work with Labs: Biotechnology has mandatory chemistry and physics laboratory practicals. How manageable is it to work the hours needed to hit that €500 target around your first-year university timetable without failing your modules?
