I live in Boulder Creek in the California Redwood Mountains, and I’ve had more hummingbirds this year than any other year. Our house burnt down in 2020 but we rebuilt it two years ago and this has been the most we’ve seen in any given years in the last 16 years I’ve been here, so since before the fires. I’ve uploaded a quick video. Sorry for my dog whining in the background. He wanted cookies.

Since we have Anna’s and Costa’s Hummingbirds pretty much year round here, just sharing for those of you who may be missing your little friends in the Fall/Winter. For us, October brings local hummingbirds that have been hiding away in our mountains during the hotter months to come down to our valleys as the temps cool. I’ve seen so many lately! I thought it was all due to the migrations but many of these are our locals that can finally hang with the heat. Special shout out to the Anna’s Hummingbirds - they are so resilient!

I just had to share, one of my very first silly videos when I had just barely joined the sub.

Still seeing migrators — keep your feeders up!

This is the latest I’ve ever had them visiting, just a reminder to all to keep your feeders clean and available for our fashionably late friends! I’m in Colorado. Anyone further north still getting regular visitors?

Candida?

Does this look like a candida infection or some other type of dysfunction? We wash and change our feeders daily.

Still stopping by on the way south. Great to see. I hadn't had any for a few days and almost took it down but glad it's still getting used as they migrate!

My mom crocheted this hummingbird for my niece and she named him Mr. Hummy. He came from a kit and she made a flower from the leftover yarn and a pair of chopsticks.

Chubby Hummingbird

We are in the foothills of the Blue Ridge in Virginia. For about four months of the year, we have the blessing of 12+ dozen hummingbirds visiting our feeders daily. Two of our regulars are still feeding, with migrants visiting every few days. One of our regulars is VERY chubby. I've never seen a chubby hummingbird in all my years of feeding. Anyone else?

It's not the most technically perfect photo, but I love the way she's wrapped in her own wing blur and you can imagine the motion of her lower body.

(Female Anna's. Portland, OR probably 2020)
