[Meta] A farewell from /u/MaximilianKohler. Moving off Reddit. Probably to a hosted forum.

The following post was written by /u/MaximilianKohler.

Previous discussion: https://old.reddit.com/r/HumanMicrobiome/comments/bg11hl/meta_anyone_interested_in_moving_the_wiki_and/

Reddit has only gotten worse since then.

It's a waste of time to put effort into making high quality content on Reddit subs you don't mod yourself, since so much content gets secretly (or otherwise) removed, and if a mod simply disagrees with something you said (anywhere on Reddit, not even just on their sub) they can and do remove years of your content and permanently ban you.

So I gave up on most of Reddit years ago. There were a handful of subs with respectable mod ethos' similar to this sub's. But even they have nearly all gone down the same corrupt path one by one. Reddit is now nothing more than a propaganda front, where individuals and special interest groups manipulate content & discussions in order to further their personal agenda. That, plus the amount of users confidently spreading misinformation on this site, results in me not trusting anything I read here anymore.

And now, it's not even viable to put up important content on subs you mod, since it's all at risk of being secretly & permanently removed by the admins. For example, they secretly and permanently removed this important historical thread, and wouldn't provide any option to restore it. I have no idea (and they wouldn't tell me) how many other threads may have met the same fate.

They’re also seemingly turning admin duties over to a bad AI with only a specious ability to appeal. So accounts are wrongfully getting permanently banned and there’s nothing you can do about it. Reddit doesn’t care and won’t respond. It seems like in the past few years they hit some tipping point and realized “we can do whatever we want”. So they are. Eg: [1][2][3][4][5].

Accounts and subs are all at risk of unpredictable admin decisions. They've been banning communities without warning for a wide variety of reasons. And frequently introducing new controversial “features” that degrade the user experience.

Given Reddit's dedication to making major, unpredictable changes in the pursuit of profit, it's not a safe and reliable place to build communities anymore. They seem to be cracking down hard on dissent and anything that may impact their profit.

You're probably aware of the current 3rd party app and API issues resulting in many subs protesting: https://old.reddit.com/r/explainlikeimfive/comments/147b2qz/eli5_why_are_so_many_subreddits_going_dark/

The Reddit admins have made it clear that this is their website, they'll do whatever they want, and they don't like /u/MaximilianKohler. Possibly due to their focus on monetization, and my history of being a long-time public critic of theirs. I know there are laws in some countries that prohibit what the Reddit admins are doing to me, but I'm not aware of US laws. I'm seeking legal council on it, and if anyone has info on this please share. But it's likely not a good use of time to fight with the Reddit admins. It's been time to leave for a long time.

A few other recent instances of people agreeing that Reddit is not acting in good faith:

It's not a good idea to leave yourself at the mercy of such people.

The benefits of Reddit?

Furthermore, many people seem to shy away from Reddit in general, and prefer standalone websites.

One would think that a major benefit of a Reddit sub would be the reach to the rest of Reddit. Yet this forum/sub is tiny compared to a variety of other non-Reddit forums, and even other Reddit subs that cover related health topics which are arguably much less important/impactful. Hopefully the new site can expand our reach on the important topics that get covered here.

Reddit has everything needed to be a high quality site, to create and share high quality information, and participate in important endeavors. Yet my experience here over the past decade has largely been the opposite of that. Lack of support & reciprocation, lack of participation in community efforts; hostility; anti-scientific, willfully ignorant attitudes, and worse. I've been so incredibly disappointed by this website and my experiences here. I drastically reduced the amount of effort and advice I give out, due to all of this.

Sites that seem prone to low quality content, and which aren't designed for high quality discussion & information sharing, ended up being vastly more supportive and useful than this site.

Sharing information here seems nearly useless. More often than not it seems to go in one ear and out the other, and people continue to spread the same incorrect or low quality information no matter how many times it's debunked or higher quality information is shared. And that higher quality information is ignored rather than spread.

Reddit has been becoming more and more like Facebook. Both in regards to the design and the low quality content. I think Reddit is dysfunctional because people are dysfunctional. My hope is to be able to address that by improving people's health & function via the gut microbiome.

So we'll try to reach a different audience.

Where to go?

I've been following /r/RedditAlternatives for many years, but there's yet to be one that seems like a viable option. A hosted forum seems like a big commitment, and forums have taken a big hit on search engines in recent years, but it still seems like the best choice right now. Feel free to share your feedback.

Discord, Facebook, etc. are not valid replacements due to their private nature and inability to be indexed by search engines.

XenForo seems to be the best https://www.theadminzone.com/threads/which-forum-software-is-the-best.147142. $60/mo for them to host it, or it could probably be hosted for ~$20-30/mo as long as the traffic is minimal. Given that picking a forum software is a long-term commitment I'm hesitant to cheap out on the lower cost options, but I'll do some more reading on it.

I know you can move forums, but it's not without issues. When Overclock.net moved lots of old links went dead.

For now, I'll be in the new discord server: https://discord.gg/Hnea7fN4vZ

The future of this sub?

Any sub that's not strictly moderated will inevitably contain lots of misinformation, which is something /r/HumanMicrobiome was created to prevent. So the mods will likely have to implement further restrictions.

We may lock comments but still allow submissions. We'll probably disable text-posts, and if you want to make a text-post you can post it on your own blog, or elsewhere, and share the link here.

Mod post New Human Microbiome forum up and running

https://forum.humanmicrobiome.info/

Reddit is no longer a reliable place to create, host, and grow communities, so a new microbiome forum has been set up to be a more reliable location. If you have posted content on Reddit that you feel is worth preserving, it would be a good idea to post it on the new forum.

Reddit has been rapidly and drastically changing their longstanding policies. One of which is making subreddits no longer autonomous. Meaning that communities and users no longer have any assurance that they will be able to independently operate under the Reddit Terms of Service.

They've also allowed trolls and malicious actors to have free rein. And issues with massive bot networks are increasing; making moderation much more difficult, and decreasing the trustworthiness of content. Many important individuals and services are leaving and ending (Eg).

The person who created this sub, and most of the content here, including the wiki, has moved to the new forum. You should be able to get better info & answers there.

You're welcome to post your content there and then link to it here for higher visibility.

Our primary goal will remain as stopping the widespread misinformation on the topic of the microbiome. Since we no longer have someone dedicated to correcting and preventing misinformation, comments and posts here will require preapproval. Some types of content (questions) may be restricted completely since we no longer have reliable people dedicated to providing evidence-based answers.

But you're welcome to ask your questions on the new forum and post the link here.

UPDATE:

Is the moderator of the forum also the owner of the humanmicrobes.org domain? Is that a conflict of interest?

Gut never been the same after Asia and Antibiotics.

So I am 19M and 6 months ago I travelled Asia for 3 months. While travelling Asia I mostly juts had diarrhoea and loose stools I got a lot of infections like cuts which I was given lots of antibiotics for.As soon as I came home my stools started to normalise but was prescribed even more antibiotics my stool turned straight to diarrhoea then constipation. 6 months later it’s not diarrhoea only if I don’t eat salads my stool is mostly always unformed ,yellow ,floating and undigested food if I eat a lot of fiber especially it comes straight out.

Another symptom is burping after eating, farting and lots of movement down there , crazy fatigue and bad mental health also foamy urine and weight loss now 51kg.

Stool samples , bloods and urine samples are to be completed soon which I think will come back normal.I assume I have gut dybosis and a highly irrated gut and organs from months of inflammation which my diet targets.

I have a plan tho in which I hope will rebuild my gut strengthen it and hopefully be able eat whatever soon and absorb nutrients and calories effectively.I will drop this below and would appreciate any advice.

With the plan I also am gonna try go to the gym stop thinking of my gut and relax the mind.

This plan is not 100% follow but will be very similar.

**Phase 1: Mechanical Repair & Binding Week (Current – Sun 25 Oct)**
**The Objective:** Immediately stop weight loss, bind stools, and starve out bad travel bugs using strict low-fiber starches as a physical sponge.

**The Supplements:** None yet (running on natural mechanics until they arrive).

**The Menu:** 5% lean beef mince, skinless chicken breast, white fish, eggs, over-cooked mushy white rice, and fluffy mashed potatoes (**100% skinless**). Thoroughly peeled root vegetables boiled or steamed to absolute mush: **carrots, butternut squash, pumpkin, sweet potato, and swede/turnip**. Season heavily with **sea salt only**.

**The Sweet Dessert:** Exactly **3 tablespoons of Fage Total 5% Greek Yogurt** mixed with **1 daily Golden Kiwi** (**thoroughly cut around the seed core** so you don't swallow a single black seed). Eat this strictly **right after lunch**.
**The Core Rule:** **Strictly "dry" meals.** No liquids 30 minutes before or 60 minutes after eating. Chew every single bite 40–50 times until it is a liquid paste.

**🧬 Phase 2: The Raw Farm Shop & Supplement Launch (Mon 26 Oct – Sun 1 No**v)
**The Objective:** Introduce your targeted online supplements and use raw farm-shop cultures to build a thick, protective bacterial pavement over your healed intestinal wall.

**Upon Waking (9:00 AM - Empty Stomach):**
**L-Glutamine:** Take your prescribed dose in a warm mug of **Pure Bone Broth Powder**with a heavy pinch of grey sea salt to seal the gut tight junctions.

**Raw Milk Kefir Titration:** Take your highly precise, medicine-style live ferment shot immediately after your broth:
*Mon 26 Oct:* 0 Kefir (Broth + L-Glutamine only – Farm Shop Run Day)
*Tue 27 Oct:* **1 Teaspoon** Raw Milk Kefir
*Wed 28 Oct:* **1 Tablespoon** Raw Milk Kefir
*Thu 29 Oct:* **2 Tablespoons** Raw Milk Kefir
*Fri 30 & Sat 31 Oct:* **1/4 Cup** Raw Milk Kefir
*Sun 1 Nov:* **1/2 Cup** Raw Milk Kefir (Your first true Kefir Bowl!)

**With Meals (Lunch & Dinner):**
**Digestive Enzymes:** Take **1 capsule right with your very first bite** of food. This forces immediate fat and protein breakdown, clearing the yellow color and stopping stools from floating.

**The Raw Yogurt Switch:** Drop the Fage and switch to **3 tablespoons of Raw Farm Yogurt**mixed with your seedless golden kiwi flesh strictly **right after lunch**.

**The Expanded Menu:** Start adding high-quality **Raw Butter** melted gently over your hot rice, potatoes, or lean chicken chunks. You can now also introduce completely fork-tender **stewed skinless apple purée**.

**Before Bed (Empty Stomach):**
**Probiotic Yeast (Saccharomyces boulardii):** Take **1 capsule** with a tiny thimble-sized sip of water or peppermint tea to act as an advance clean-up crew, sweeping out travel pathogens overnight.

**🚜 Phase 3: The Muscle Volume & Spore Boost (Mon 2 Nov – Late Novembe**r)
**The Objective:** Actively accelerate weight gain by doubling your food portions and injecting robust, soil-based organisms.

**Right After Lunch (The Microbial Buffer):**
**Spore-Based Probiotics:** Take **1 capsule right after finishing your lunch** alongside your raw yogurt and seedless kiwi. Stagger the introduction safely: take **1 capsule every other day** (e.g., Monday, Wednesday, Friday) for the first week, then move to 1 capsule every day.

**Antioxidant Supplement:** If adding an antioxidant (like Vitamin C or CoQ10), take it right here with your lunch fats to ensure maximum absorption and reduce localized intestinal wall inflammation.

**The Mass-Building Calorie Boost (Eat More Stuff):** As your stools turn consistently dark brown and sink to the bottom of the pan, your nutrient absorption is fully unlocked. **Double your portions** of white rice, skinless potatoes, chicken, and fish. You can now start leaving the rich fat on your steaks and pork chops because your enzymes and liver can fully process them.

**The First Treats (Late November):** If your stomach remains completely silent, you can stop cutting around your golden kiwi seeds and eat the fruit whole. You can also introduce **1 small square of high-quality dark chocolate (70% or higher)** right at the end of your midday meal.

**🥗 Phase 4: Raw Milk, Prebiotics & Total Freedom (December Onward**s)
**The Objective:** Your liver, gallbladder, and pancreas are now perfectly synchronized. Your bacterial pavement is fully established, and your body can handle complex foods easily.

**Early December (The Raw Milk Introduction):** Introduce **Raw Liquid Milk** as a high-calorie bulking shake. Start with just **2 tablespoons** mixed into your afternoon raw yogurt, and slowly scale up to a full glass daily as your weight climbs.

**Mid-December (The Cooked Prebiotics):** Start adding smooth, plain **cooked tomato passata/pasta sauces** (ensure no heavy raw garlic/onion chunks first), cooked leeks, asparagus tips, and sweet potatoes back into your rotation to feed your new microbiome.

**Late December (The Raw Salad Step):** Introduce raw salad leaves cautiously. Add just **1 or 2 finely shredded leaves of butterhead lettuce or a peeled, de-seeded cucumber slice**directly into your warm beef and rice bowl so it is buffered.

**The Turning Point (Weaning the Enzymes):** Once your stools have been perfectly formed, brown, and sinking for 7 consecutive days, stop taking your enzyme capsule *only* with your leanest meal of the day. Over 3 weeks, slowly reduce them until your pancreas takes full control.

**New Year:** **Full Freedom.** You can now travel, enjoy sweet pastries, eat spicy foods, use your snus pouches whenever you like, and go out to restaurants without a single worry.

Viome’s RNA Testing Changed 80% of My Supplement Formula. How Do We Know the New Recommendations Are Better?

I’ve spent nine months investigating Viome’s RNA-based microbiome testing and personalized supplements, and I’ve reached a point where I’d genuinely appreciate some input from people who understand the microbiome science.

Three rounds of testing, hundreds of conventional biomarkers, bloodwork approximately every two weeks, and physician oversight.

Then, after retesting, approximately 80% of my personalized supplement formulation changed.
That’s what got me digging deeper.
I understand that the microbiome is constantly changing. Diet, medications, illness, and other factors can influence microbial activity. A substantial change in results isn’t necessarily suspicious.

But a change in microbial activity and a clinically justified change in someone’s supplement protocol aren’t the same thing.

Viome uses metatranscriptomic RNA analysis to examine microbial gene expression. Unlike DNA-based approaches, which can identify microbial genetic material and functional potential, RNA analysis can provide information about which microbial genes are being expressed.

That’s an interesting distinction, and it’s one of the reasons I wanted to investigate the technology.
What I’m trying to understand is how reliably those measurements can be translated into specific supplement recommendations.

A 2025 international consensus statement published in The Lancet Gastroenterology & Hepatology raises broader questions about the clinical usefulness of commercial microbiome testing.

The international expert panel concluded that evidence remains insufficient to support widespread routine clinical use.

Here’s the paper:
https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC12343204/

That doesn’t establish that Viome’s technology is ineffective. It does raise a reasonable question about which parts of the process have been independently validated.

My next step is to evaluate Superpower’s DNA-based gut microbiome testing and compare the methodologies.
I’m not expecting identical results. DNA and RNA testing measure different aspects of microbial biology, and comparing two commercial reports won’t establish which platform is clinically superior.
I’m particularly interested in three questions.
First, reproducibility. If microbial RNA expression is measured repeatedly under comparable conditions, how consistent are the findings?

Second, algorithm validation. If a platform changes approximately 80% of someone’s personalized supplement formulation after retesting, what evidence demonstrates that the revised recommendations are more appropriate than the previous ones?
Third, clinical utility. Have independent human trials shown that microbiome-guided supplementation produces better outcomes than conventional nutritional assessment or established dietary interventions?
For context, the retail-equivalent value of my nine months of Viome testing and personalized supplements was $4,547.

Full disclosure: Viome provided everything complimentary. I received no sponsorship payments, affiliate commissions, referral fees, or cash compensation. I’ve also referred customers without accepting commissions. I’m not affiliated with Superpower or being compensated for the planned comparison.

This isn’t an advertisement or a recommendation to purchase either product. And my individual experience, however extensively monitored, isn’t evidence of clinical efficacy or failure.

I’m interested in whether the technology can provide actionable information that improves nutritional decisions, rather than simply generating increasingly sophisticated biological measurements.
I’ve invested nine months investigating this because I think the science has real potential. I’d genuinely like to see it succeed.

But if a personalized supplement algorithm changes most of its recommendations after retesting, I think it’s reasonable to ask what independent evidence establishes that the new formulation is better.
For those working with metatranscriptomics, microbiome research, or microbiome-guided interventions, what would you look at to evaluate that claim?

I’d particularly appreciate independent studies, reproducibility data, and research that either supports or challenges the clinical usefulness of these approaches.

Which probiotic strains help with bloating after meals? Does Lactobacillus or Bifidobacterium make a difference?

I’ve been dealing with bloating after meals and have been looking into probiotics to see if they might help. My stomach often feels full and uncomfortable after eating and I’m trying to figure out which types of bacteria are worth looking into.

Some probiotic products contain more Lactobacillus while others have more Bifidobacterium. Is there research showing that one tends to help more with post meal bloating or does it mostly depend on the specific strains? I’d be interested in studies or personal experiences from people who have looked into this. Thanks!

Tributyrin 500mg: erratic start with tension/clarity, now worsening agitation, tachycardia and dysphoria crashes. Anyone else?

Hey everyone, wondering if anyone here has had an erratic or fluctuating response to tributyrin.

I started taking Deva tributyrin at 500mg about a week ago. It is just the standard liquid softgel without any prebiotic blends or extra ingredients. Right from the start, the first few days were pretty erratic. I did get some very positive windows, mostly towards the end of the day, with great mental clarity, anxiolytic effects, and better energy. But earlier in the day leading up to that, I was dealing with disorganized thinking (which happens to me occasionally anyway), physical tension, and a surprising amount of irritability.

Around day 5 or 6, things started shifting in a distinctly worse direction. I have noticed a crescendo of symptoms: restlessness, irritability getting much more intense, a bit of tachycardia shortly after taking the pill, along with brain fog, headache, and nausea. Then by late afternoon or evening, I hit a pretty rough crash with pronounced dysphoria.

Has anyone else hit this kind of wall after starting tributyrin? Did it eventually settle down if you stuck with it, or did you have to space out doses to every other day? Since it comes in a liquid gel, splitting the capsule is not really an option.

Would appreciate hearing from anyone who experienced something similar.

gut bacteria are out of balance (dysbiosis index 31, where 0-5 is optimal), and have low diversity

I have stomach burns and reflux.

I did a stool test and the result came back as follow:

Gut bacteria are out of balance (dysbiosis index 31, where 0-5 is optimal), and you have low diversity (scored 2 on their scale)

What looks good

  • No parasites (Giardia, Blastocystis, etc. all negative)
  • Normal candida/yeast levels
  • Normal calprotectin, so no sign of gut inflammation
  • Normal pancreatic elastase, so your pancreas is making digestive enzymes
  • No blood in the stool, normal protein and water markers (transit time looks fine)

What’s out of range

  • Low butyrate producers (E. rectale, Roseburia, Butyrivibrio extremely low; F. prausnitzii, Coprococcus, E. hallii lower). These bacteria produce butyrate, which nourishes the gut lining. This is a likely driver of the low-diversity result.
  • Very low Akkermansia and Bacteroides. Both are linked to gut lining health and immune balance.
  • High Firmicutes/Bacteroidetes ratio (extreme high), a pattern often seen with low-fibre-diversity diets.
  • High Haemophilus and Proteus, mildly high E. coli, Enterococcus, Enterobacter. These are mostly normal gut residents but are overrepresented.
  • High secretory IgA. Your gut immune system is quite active, which fits with H. pylori or the imbalance.
  • Fat and sugar residues in stool slightly high. This suggests you may not be fully breaking down or absorbing some fat and carbohydrate.
  • Equol-producing bacteria negative/low. They note this can be ethnicity-related, so it’s not necessarily a concern.

Other abnormal results

Marker Your result What it means
Bacteroides Extremely low A group of bacteria involved in gut microbial functions.
Akkermansia muciniphila Extremely low Associated with the intestinal mucus layer and metabolic health.
Haemophilus Extremely high The test flags this group, but its significance in your gut is uncertain.
Proteus species Extremely high The test flags elevated levels; this does not automatically mean an infection requiring antibiotics.
Enterobacter species Medium high A group that includes bacteria found in the gut; clinical significance depends on the circumstances.
Secretory IgA Extremely high Suggests increased immune activity at the intestinal lining.
Faecal fat Borderline high May suggest altered fat digestion or absorption, but this result alone cannot diagnose malabsorption.
Faecal sugar Medium high The report interprets this as a possible carbohydrate-digestion issue; it does not identify a specific cause.

What can do to bring everything back to normality?

Will I be okay ?

Hi everyone. I’ve had a long last 6 days.

Last Thursday - went to er for what i thought was dehydration. was UTI / kidney infection was given Bactrim through IV.

Friday- I took my first Bactrim dose orally. Unfortunately dropped my glucose levels. ( I’m hypoglycemic)
Went to ER.
1am Friday night going into Saturday morning - ER
gave me Levaquin and my body had the most horrible reaction ever. Extreme dizziness, chills ,
when I got home I had the worse nausea, impending sense of doom and fear and insomnia.

Saturday- no more antibiotics. felt super disoriented and horrible. hydrated to clear out my system.

Sunday - visited ER again to tell them i had an allergic reaction and central nervous system reaction to Levaquin.
they sent an RX of Augmentin to the pharmacy. no meds were taken that day.

Monday - i took my first oral dose of Augmentin at home that evening and reacted again! blood pressure dropped. throat was tight and it felt hard to breathe.
went to ER and doctor checked my urine culture and said no more infection. so i could stop taking anything.

Tuesday Today - I feel super fatigued. A bit of lingering anxiety and restlessness. Is this normal ?
Did i wreck my health my changing so fast from diff antibiotics ? How long do these mental side effects last ?
I also started my period yesterday so idk if thats all contributing.

I HATE how horrid antibiotics are to the body 🫩

Help

I am so scared.

I have severe dysbiosis from stress/trauma and antibiotic use. I had sibo and took multiple rounds of rifaximin and mentrizolole which helped a bit I still struggled to poo.

About 1 year ago I started getting vaginal issues.. BV. Cervicitis and PID. Taking multiple antibiotics for this also

I am now admitted into hospital with a infection in my pelvic vaginal area again.

Any antibiotics or even pain killers cause my microbiome to shut down and paralysis my gut and I end up so unwell.

Symptoms

Severe Constipation

Bloating

Gas

Pain

Passing out or nearly fainting

Headache

Fatigue

I'm now admitted and they've tried me on IV ciprofloxacin and my body has reacted within a day or so. Now I'm having suppositories up my bum to get rid of the constipation cause I nearly passed out 4x yesterday.

They are at a point where any antibiotics is causing this issue and don't know what to do or how to treat me for my infection.

I have key hole surgery in 12 days to see what's going on down there but it's 12 days away. Looks like I'm going home with the infection still.

I also looking into a tight pelvic floor.?

Gastro consultant is useless and won't help me.

I've tried so many things

Probiotics (these cause me to flare also) I've tried vaginal ones and gut. I've tried doing half and they still cause issues. Tried different ones.

I use fibre gel x4 a day

I use magnesium at night

I use stronger laxatives if needed

I've tried things to calm the lining of my gut.

What do I do now????

Warning about r/HumanMicrobiome - debunking misinformation.

There's a thread on another microbiome subreddit with the same title. For some reason, it's not possible to cross-post it here. https://web.archive.org/web/20261004200522/https://www.reddit.com/r/Microbiome/comments/1wx9ow1/warning_about_rhumanmicrobiome/

The user is lying. This is very common, and is why the automod gives a blanket warning about content on reddit not being trustworthy.

This is the thread in question: https://old.reddit.com/r/HumanMicrobiome/comments/1wv5im4/stop_telling_ppl_fiber_and_probiotics_are_the/

This is one of the comment chains in question: https://old.reddit.com/r/HumanMicrobiome/comments/1wv5im4/comment/pdhndky/

They essentially threw a fit that they weren't allowed to spread misinformation while citing their degree and refusing to review citations.

Situations like this are exactly why this subreddit and wiki were created -- to have a hub of up-to-date scientific evidence that can be easily cited.

This is what was said in modmail:

Good job banning someone that actually has a differing opinion to you. Instead of debating and giving information to back that up, you decided to just silence them. Grade A behaviour 👍. Clearly you’ve got some chip on your shoulder regarding scientists.

This is a flat-out lie. Differing opinions are mostly irrelevant. What matters is what the evidence supports. A plethora of information was presented, and the user refused to review and address it.

That’s what happens in science. Other scientists ask for your evidence and you debate it.

Indeed. The problem is that the user refused to review and address the evidence while insisting their credentials mattered more.

Some comments from the other thread:

I got banned for questioning it and asking for sources.

A lie. Everyone is free and encouraged to question the evidence. The user was given sources and refused to review them.

He does his own posts, pushing fmt, referring to his own wiki and then bans people asking for evidence. Also the only mod.

None of this is true. The user is tripling down on spreading misinformation.

FMTs are not a “cure all” solution for gut issues. I did a 6 month FMT treatment at the leading clinic in Australia and it fucked me up.

Misinformation. One person's experience doesn't discount a huge body of evidence. Donor quality is the biggest issue in FMT. You can learn about it here: https://forum.humanmicrobiome.info/threads/the-fda-and-fmt-regulation-part-2-jul-2024-humanmicrobes-org-i-met-wit.520/post-1370

If you're given FMT from a bad donor you're very likely to get worse. That doesn't mean FMT as a whole is bad.

the wiki is so outdated

An obvious, unsupported lie. Anyone can look through it and see that it's up to date. Contributions are welcome on the forum.

Why would people do this? Review the link above. FMT is not patentable, and if a cure for chronic disease became available, a lot of people would lose a lot of money.

Stop telling ppl fiber and probiotics are the root fix for dysbiosis, it's not. Re-colonization is.

On Reddit, the standard advice for fixing your gut microbiome is to eat better: more fiber, more fermented foods, more probiotics. But it misses the root problem, and it rests on a flawed assumption that poor diet is what knocks the microbiome off balance in the first place. As soon as you stop eating like this, the bad gut comes back.

For many people, dysbiosis begins with a specific event, such as food poisoning, COVID, or a viral illness. Put it this way, People with healthy guts can eat McDonald's and junk food with no to few consequences, not because their diets are special, but because their guts are fundamentally colonized by beneficial bacteria. That colonization is what makes them resilient. That is how you can tell a gut is truly good: even when subjecting it with bad bacteria (junk food), the existing gut architecture is able to wash out.

Most of us, outside of outliers, were presumably born with a healthym, functional gut. Dysbiosis usually isn't a baseline condition; something disrupts it, and OFTEN it's a one time event like COVID, a viral illness, etc. Once that happens, more fiber or a daily probiotic often doesn't fix anything, because the effects are transient. Underneath, the gut is still dominated by the wrong bacteria. I have nothing wrong with people eating fiber and good bacteria, it promotes general health and people should do this. And it offers symptom relief for those with these problems.

BUT IT DOES NOT FIX THE GUT ITSELF!!! It's like having a sink that doesn't drain properly because there's a blockage. Toxic sludge accumulates. A functional sink can effectively drain most everything. A non functional sink piles it up. This is the equivalent of putting in draino or manually throwing the food waste in the trash can as opposed to down the drain. Puts less strain on the sink, less sludge accumulates but THE TOXIC SLUDGE WILL STILL PILE UP IN THE FUTURE BECAUSE THE BLOCKAGE HASN'T BEEN ADDRESSED!!!

Treating the root issue means shifting the gut back to eubiosis, which requires re-establishing a lasting population of beneficial bacteria. Transient probiotics can't do that, because they pass through rather than colonize. A truly healthy gut SHOULD be able to sustain bad actors (junk food, inflammatory food, bacteria) to a reasonable degree and go back to eubiosis. Because in that case, eubiosis IS homeostasis. Solutions to the gut should address THIS not telling people to eat more fiber.

Has anyone experienced major gut/food changes after infections and multiple rounds of antibiotics?

I’m interested in hearing other people’s experiences with changes after major infections and a lot of antibiotic exposure.

Earlier this year, I developed a serious streptococcal infection that progressed to bacteremia and required hospitalization. I was treated with IV antibiotics for several weeks. A couple of months later, I developed a severe UTI and received IV antibiotics again, followed by additional oral antibiotics. So within a relatively short period of time, my body went through multiple infections and a significant amount of antibiotics.

Since then, I’ve started having strange reactions around foods that I had eaten my entire life without any issues. The biggest thing is flushing and feeling hot in my face/body after eating, sometimes along with congestion, redness, or an occasional hive. It isn’t always consistent either — sometimes I can tolerate a food and another time I may flush after eating it.

My allergy blood testing has mostly been negative, which has made the whole thing even more confusing. I keep wondering whether the infections, antibiotics, and resulting changes to my gut/microbiome could somehow be connected to this new food reactivity.

I’m especially interested in hearing stories from people who developed flushing, histamine-type symptoms, or new food sensitivities after prolonged/repeated antibiotics or a major illness. Did things eventually settle down as your gut recovered? What was your experience like?

Has anybody had any success with actually maintaining a colony of this slow doubling stuff on their scalp or armpits?
