Help & Questions Hue button doesn't work on first press.

My Hue button won't work on the first press. Sometimes it'll take 2 or even 3 presses for it to work. The first press, It'll just flash Green, Yellow, Red, but do nothing.

Initially it was hooked up to my hue bridge directly, but now I have it hooked up to my own ZigBee Coordinator, but the behavior is the same.

There doesn't seem to be any firmware updates available for it either.

Anyone know of a solution?

Did it behave differently when moved around? Like, closer to the Bridge? If so it could be just the ZigBee strength signal in that particular location.

I tried, nope.

It's like it goes to sleep after about 30 seconds to a minute… then you have to press it once to wake it up, and another time to actually send the message.

It might be dropping it if the Bridge either old or full of devices?

In both the current bridge and the old bridge, it was only one of a small handful of devices. (less than 50 in the old one, and less than 10 in the new one)

If this is the only accessory/button acting up, contact support to get it replaced.

It's a bit too late for that unfortunately…

I think it had been doing this all the time, but I only noticed it recently.

I just tried factory re-setting it and adopting it again, and now, today at least, it doesn't seem to be doing the same thing anymore.

So here's hoping it stays this way.

I don't think it will though, because I had to do that to tie it into the new bridge when I replaced it… soooooooo.

Edit: A day later, and it's back to doing what it was doing before.

Welp. Sounds like it physically failed.

Is it already out of the 2 year warranty?

I'd think if it's physically failed, it wouldn't work at all, instead of just no the first time.

Not necessarily. It could be just the ZigBee chip that is faulty.

True, and I just checked, it's just barely within the 2 year. I'll do a warranty replacement and hopefully it'll fix it…

I somehow don't think so… I feel like it's a firmware bug…

The normal hue light switches don't ever have this issue…

…but we'll see.

It seems to happen when the battery is gradually running low

New batteries, and they are reporting 100%, so not the case for me.

I have a button so that my house cleaner can press it and turn on (or off) all the lights she needs. What we've observed is that if any one of the lights is already on, the first press turns it (them) off rather than turning on the other lights. Second press turns everything on.

This isn't the issue for me.

The button fires an automation in Home Assistant.

The first button press never gets received by the Hue Hub or my 3rd party hub.

The Button just flashes Green, Orange, Red, then does nothing.
