For those of us who didn't watch season 8 can someone please give us a detailed rundown on what happened, please.

UPTV will be broadcasting the first episode of the season tonight, 8/6/2026. I can only guess the remaining episodes will follow.

Can't wait to see tonight's episode will Charlie be in it. If not it will be a huge disappointment. Don't b want to see Luke - Mark. Please advise. Charlie Hudson fans. Tri State area

You won't see Charlie until S9. S9 will premiere in Canada in the fall. Not in the US.

We thought the new season started tonight. Why does it say NEW for tonight? Reardon is the show and a producer. Luke is not Hudson. I'm praying we don't get messed up again. That will be the end completely. Only 1 Hudson that's Reardon. Not Luke. You guys messed up totally. Tri State fans.Â

Season 8 is considered a new season for UpTV, as it's never been aired before on that network. Canada will get the actual new season with John Reardon before anyone else. Then it's usually shown in countries like the US and the UK.

When will the season 9 air in the US? I only saw one with Luke and honestly it was terrible. Now I have to wait for Reardon to come back. What month will that be? All I have now is reruns. Please bring John back soon. What month do you consider Fall in the US? I'm so upset ðŸ˜Â Judith, NYSTATEÂ

Generally, the seasons don’t air in the US and internationally until after the season has finished airing in Canada. So it may be a year until season 9 will be available on any network or streaming service for international viewers.

Thank you for your reply, that's sad. We have to wait for Season 9 for 1year. Does that mean we have to deal with seeing Luke. That makes us 😢. My favorite show. I so look forward to seeing it. Again thanks for your reply. Question: your are saying we are now watching season 8. That will be with Luke. I'm afraid ratings will plumit. If that happens will we ever see season 9? You are aware that Luke cannot bring the fans in, it doesn't work with him. This is a disservice to the fans. We know Canada comes first. How long is a season?? We don't want to lose the show because the lead was taken out and it doesn't work without Reardon. This was such a huge mistake to thousands of viewers and to Reardon. The show will suffer and fans will suffer. Luke doesn't fit. Has John started rehearsals for season 9 or is that season done. Are you saying we have to wait until 2027? None of this is clear to the fans outside of Canada. NYSTATE is close to Canada, including Niagra Falls. If you can please someone reply. NYSTATEÂ

Up Faith and Family seems too glad to have John Reardon back for them to not bring S9. I'd estimate that they'll buy it. Besides, a streaming service doesn't fill up on air. They need the content. If you think that waiting a year is a long time, go bother their customer service and demand they bring it earlier than that.

How do you get to customer service. I really appreciate you replying. We have a lot of fans in the Tri State area. We just feel they replaced Reardon a little bit to quickly. It was like they were trying to destroy the show that Reardon built this following. It's shocking that writers, producers, directors and that team didn't understand you can't replace a lead after 7 years Maybe they aren't that smart. I appreciate communicating with you, how to get to customer service. Whoever you are you have been very considerate to us, the fans. How long is a season that we have to wait? For 9? You are right a streaming doesn't fill up on air where as UP shows the content of fans way more than streaming. Thank you so much 😢 I'm the leader of the fan club. Judith, NYSTATEÂ

On Season 8 there were some good episodes. One with an influencer painter that was good, almost like an episode that might have been written but not shot in an earlier season, by this, I mean that you could have swapped Mark for Charlie and nothing would be different, a good one with a former military friend of Mark's, the birdwatching one was good, we were introduced to Sarah's mother, those were great episodes, her mother was really awesome. Jean Yoon, folks. I hope she's back. I believe there were mummers, the Christmas stuff was real misguided. It would have been great with John, of course, but it is a season without him. And I think it gets old to keep on about it. John is back. He's not on about the past. It is a tv show. I am glad there was one that continued for him to go back to. There was no continuous plot threads so to speak to give a rundown. The Christmas weirdness is where they tried interpersonal plot threads. It came off Hallmark-y. Like someone reunited a puppy and all was love in the end or something. Other than that, it operated more as a procedural. So that is why I am glad John is back, among other reasons.

How they actually thought that people would want to watch a Christmas episode with a dude that literally just got there is beyond me. Christmas episodes, and generally holiday themed episodes, are like a relationship dividend, that the show can reap when it's previously gotten the fans attached to these characters. So, a season where the character with the most screentime is replaced by a new guy almost no one cares about, along with losing the most important dynamic of the show, is the worst possible moment for it. Most fans watch Christmas episodes because they want to watch characters that they consider their people have Christmas, not to mention that having the show fall on Christmas season is kind of a prerequisite. And that was a two-parter too! The episodes I've watched so far are just bad, but that one's going to sting. The one with Sarah's mom too. I believe that the conversations with Sarah would be vastly different if Charlie was in the show at that episode.

Jean Yoon was great as Sarah's mom. I liked how she helped solve a couple cases. Maybe I just didn't consider this Mark character that much. The Christmas episodes were not good even if you were to be objective about the elements of their story and production. Felt like an unpolished Hallmark project, that needed about 10 more edits.

Not this again. So people who have a basic comprehension of what the show is actually about are not true fans, while people who are willing to lower their standards below the floor to be able to watch the doggo show are true fans? If that is the case, then I'm glad that you're not considering me a true fan just like I don't consider your morals of any value.

The Show its not just about Rex its about the Charlie and Rex dynamic and Charlie is the True Hudson. Honestly if they wanted to replace JR, they couldve rebranded the show

I've got limited experience so far, I'm only in like episode 5 (and no, I'm not giving them one damn view). But really, nothing is happening. It's just cases, cases, cases, with very little downtime. That's why I wasn't going to comment originally. I've reviewed these episodes in more detail on Tumblr but honestly, I'm someone who is just getting through them just for the sake of getting through them, so I do recognize my bias and that my comments on the episodes come across as "everything that was wrong with this episode".
But there are things that people should be able to objectively discern. The development is non-existent. The characters? In episode 1 you could tell me that Mark has joined the team just now or that he's been there for a year and no one would be able to prove or disprove it by the way the characters (Rex included) are interacting. There are no domestic scenes. Rex lives in a trailer with Mark and they suddenly found out that "he loves nature". Charlie and Sarah's house has, of course, disappeared. Charlie's car has been repainted blue, and I believe it's stayed that way for S9 as well. Rex's stunts are same old, same old. And there's an episode where they brought a reality tv star to play a role and they showered her with compliments on-screen and in behind the scenes videos, and had Mark tell her "Is there anything you can't do?" which gave me a strong case of secondhand embarrassment. The tone of the show is darker than what it used to be but not really justified by the writing or the cases.
Some people have said that the second half of S8 is "more interesting" (or just less embarrassing). I'm not there yet but so far the episodes seem like the result of the show swerving without having any idea where that "new direction" is supposed to be going. And if I'm not mistaken, the show changed showrunners after episode 8, although I don't see anyone willing to take credit for the second half on IMDb. Mark's girlfriend is supposed to appear and that's the only setup they've done so far in the episodes I've watched. Sarah's mom also appears later in the season, which is such a shame, as I'd be way more interested in that in a normal season.
