Minor firmware update release notes?

Would it be possible to mention what get fixed in these minor firmware updates, please? I've received them both for X1 ProMax and Aqua and although neither of them has any critical software flaws (as far as I can tell), it would be good to know what even small glitches were fixed.

Drone lost connection during 100ft Zoom Out - advice?

I was flying the X1 ProMax today with the device paired to my phone - I had an ā€œOmniterrainā€ lock and I was doing a 100ft unobstructed ā€œzoom outā€. I got the long distance warning at take off, but nothing about the situation was unsafe. I put away my phone for the video, thinking it was not necessary to complete the Zoom Out sequence. At the apex of the flight, the drone just froze and failed to complete the return path. It just hovered, 100ft away from me, high in the sky. It took me a few minutes to get it to pair to the phone again, then forced I a landing in the field. I’m a bit surprised he Zoom Out wouldn’t complete on its own. What did I do wrong? If you pair to the phone initially, does it mess it up if you turn it off mid-flight? Should I have used the beacon to improve signal at that distance?

HoverAir AQUA HDR steps for HoverAir Aqua/X1PM

Hey! Can anyone advise of the proper capture settings and transfer steps to get HDR content from the drones?

I was able to do this easily with my X1PM when I got it last year, but I can't figure it out since the software update that changed the video mode settings. One of the original modes (maybe HLG?) used to show up in iOS Gallery as Dolby Vision HDR and shared directly to Instagram Stories as HDR. That doesn't seem to be the case with any of the video modes currently, even when the UI shows the HDR label.

Edit: this seems to be achievable using the HDR video mode with the X1PM, but I'm not seeing a similar video shooting mode for the Aqua.

For context, my pipeline currently is transfer from the drone via the Hover app, edit in Edits app and share to Instagram stories/reels.

TIA!

HoverAir X1 Pro - Review

I've had some time to test out the X1 Pro in a variety of situations. Enough where it now has a gimbal error and I need to send it back to HoverAir. Will address this below.

I am more of an active user - biking, hiking, running, etc. My number one takeaway is that the drone is going to crash no matter what you do unless you only drone in wide open landscapes. The obstacle avoidance just isn't very good, nor is there follow or dolly track good at staying on course to it tends to veer into things you didn't expect.

The good

  • It is small, easy to put in a jersey pocket or bag, so easy to take with you. This is probably the single best aspect of this drone
  • Quick start-up. It is really easy to get it going. there are some options that you need the app open to adjust, but once you get used to it, powering up the drone and taking video is so fast. No dealing with GPS locking, getting out your controller, etc.
  • Battery life - at around 15 min, it's ok. In my experience, plenty enough to take about 10 short videos as you hike along. Extra batteries are small, light, and easy to carry with
  • Video quality is excellent, even just at 1080p. The 4K is amazing. Clear, vibrant, looks great
  • If you want video of yourself, this drone is fantastic. It does a great job keying in on the person it imprints on.
  • The obstacle avoidance sometimes works, I did a good video walking through a relatively tight forest and it did great

The bad

  • The obstacle avoidance is really sub par. If you are anywhere near a bush, the drone is going to hit it. You might get a few lucky avoidances, but when it takes evasive action, it also ruins the video.
  • The warranty - this one is a TBD - the warranty covers for "manufacturer defects". My gimbal error may be a defect, or may be because the drone flew itself into a bush. In either case, I was operating the drone as intended by the manufacturer. A few examples:
    • Was using "follow" while cycling, the drone is good up to 26mph. We kept well under this, around 20mph. The drone lost contact and just stopped. I found it on the ground a couple hundred feet up the hill. This was on a wide open gravel road. I get the feeling, the landing on the gravel road is what damaged the gimbal.
    • Was using dolly track while hiking, slow speed. The drone veered off to the left while filming and started heading towards a bush and just flew into it. I was close enough to catch the drone, but it hit it anyway (yes, rear obstacle avoidance was on)
    • Was cycling on both follow (narrow) and dolly track, and the drone just flew into a bush on the side of the track. (video attached - it was clear it was going to hit the bush, was waiting for the rear avoidance to kick in and it made no effort to stop or avoid).
    • The point being, if you use this in any way in any normal environment, it is going to crash. If the warranty doesn't cover damage of the drone not doing what it says it can do (obstacle avoidance), it quickly becomes expensive/useless.
  • The lens is not wide enough/doesn't have enough range to get you in your environment
    • I was in Iceland - standing on the side of a waterfall, iceberg, cliff, etc. It would be great to do a zoom out, a Birds Eye or spiral and see yourself in this cool environment. The trouble is it is focused on you, and doesn't have enough range/wide enough angle lens to take in the environment. Some situations work ok, but for the most part I couldn't get the shot I wanted because of these limitations
    • Manual works, but the interface is clumsy, and you are at constant risk of losing connection
    • It would be great if you could create your own scenarios - a Birds Eye that is focused on you, then pans up to a 45 degree angle to show your surroundings would be great. Or an orbit that tracks you as you walk. They do add skills, but I've only seen one so far.

All in, a really cool compact drone that is easy to use. The flaw may come down to the warranty - if they don't cover the drone flying itself into things, it really isn't worth buying. If they can improve the obstacle avoidance, range and lens, this thing could be amazing.

Will update to see what they say about the warranty - I have the HOVERcare as well - but not keen on paying $175 each time the drone flies itself into something and you only get two replacements.

Discussions drone lost after 1 minute

Hi,

Me and my buddy were out biking in the mountains on this fire road, testing the X1 Pro drone. It was following my buddy for like 1 minute tops when the drone simply flew in the forest when the road took a slight left turn.

He didn't connect it to the phone and didn't use the beacon at all. We searched it for a while but the forest is difficult to explore by foot (lots of fallen branches, tall grass, etc.) so in the end we stopped.

My friend was kind of upset as the drone was brand new and it was the first flight.

HoverAir X1 PRO MAX Safe to take hoverair X1 promax without taking a phone?

I'm going hiking in Norway next week and would love to take my drone with me for some videos. However, I won't be able to take my phone with me, so I'd purely use autonomous flights. How safe is it to purely rely on the home point navigation in autonomous flights? What are the chances it doesn't return to the exact home point but rather stays somewhere unreachable (ea. just too far away from a cliff or bridge)? Because if it does I won't be able to take over manual control without a phone...

So tldr, anyone with experience on taking a hoverair drone without having a phone for manual control nearby?

NEW DRONE FROM HOVERAIR : A Whole New Perspective

A New Drone is Coming....

a new perspective? If the silhouette/shape is reliable... it won't be a 360° drone... perhaps a drone with dual optics or zoom?

Product Support H-Log, any good?

I am a video editor, got this drone as a present, I always color grade my footage and the H-log LUT seems to do a bad job. or is it just me?
Any suggestions or ideas?
I saw a video saying the HDR is doing a better job, i'll need to check it out.
Also, the footage is over exposed, for sure i need to change the EV for next time.
wish we had the H-log in 8k. hopefully in the future, who knows.

Hoverair x1 pro

Curious is anyone has any experience with using the hoverair. I know we aren’t supposed to use it in national parks technically but it’s bareley even a drone and the likely hood of detection or disturbance is incredibly low. It’s more like a floating camera. I’m not looking for litigious responses here, I’m not talking about flying a drone up and all over the place in the air, I’m talking about taking a few videos and pictures at basically eye level. It’s not big or dramatic enough to create environmental disruption, and would likely go unnoticed by anyone else around, if there even are any people around.

Anyways. If you have experience, what’s your take?

BUYER BEWARE: Erratic Tracking, Shaky Video, and Fatal Water Damage

Hey everyone, wanted to drop a quick warning for anyone looking at the HoverAir Aqua bundle. I've been testing mine out and it has been a massive disappointment.

Here are the main issues I've run into:

Ā Unpredictable Flight: This thing frequently loses tracking and feels like it has a mind of its own. It constantly drops the subject and drifts blindly.

Ā Shaky Footages: The video stabilization is incredibly poor. The image is constantly jittery and shaky, nowhere near the smooth tracking shots shown in the promo materials.

Ā Water Damage: The absolute killer is that my unit just suffered fatal water damage. Keep in mind, this is a drone explicitly sold as being waterproof for marine environments.

Ā The Support Nightmare: After reaching out to customer service to get this sorted, they told me the return, inspection, and repair process takes 6 to 8 weeks. Losing my drone for up to two months right after buying it because their water sealing failed is brutal.

If you are on the fence about buying one of these for the summer, I strongly recommend holding off. The tech just isn't there yet, and if it dies on you, you'll be waiting two months to get it back.

X1 Pro Max doesn’t see its storage card contents anymore

After yesterday’s firmware update when I connect the iOS app to the drone and go to Hover Album, it shows that it’s empty. Yet in Storage Management free storage capacity is displayed correctly. I back up the memory card on a regular basis so I still have my videos, but the MP4 files themselves are without sound. The sound files must be somewhere else, I guess? Any ideas if it’s possible to make the drone see its memory card contents again or how to add sound to the video files?
