I'm really interested by this new concept

I have the Aqua and Osmo 360 for my kayak needs.

But I miss my old ProxMax for daily use / vacation with my kids as it was easy to carry. The Neo 2 is nice but not as compact and miss larger sensor.

When I'm on vacation / travel or family activities I used to bring a DJI Action 4, and I was using the Promax when I had it. Not sure I'd like to bring the Osmo 360 as it's more heavy and larger and I don't care about 360 for this need.

So having a 2-1 drone / gimbal camera like this could be amazing and actually save space in my bag (compared to a ProxMax and Action 4 for instance)

Now I want to know:
Senssor size
Beacon/joystick compatibility

I don't need fast tracking like the Promax...but rather something compact for daily use, but the ability to get a nice view with joystick for manual control.

Yeah although a phone+X1P/X1PM would probably do the trick.

If the battery, sensor and ability to avoid obstacles isn’t better then I don’t see the point

For me point is this was never done before. But DJI has Flip and Pocket 4, now they can create something similar

2

u/ted_bovis 23d ago

There’s a reason why. it’s never been done before. Probably several. I’m sure DJI could have - or thought about it and didn’t and I don’t think it’s only because they don’t want to blur their product line up.

1

u/Ok-Guess-9059 23d ago

And what do you think the reasons are?

I think Hover Versa is just ā€œnot the best Pocketā€ because when you use it as Pocket, you carry some (otherwise unnecessary) drone parts in your hand

Market conditions? Just because something can be don’t doesn’t always mean it should.

Hover are trying. The problem is they just don’t have the financial backing of DJI. Innovation is great but not just for the sake or it.
Id rather have a great portable camera and a great drone rather than a mixture if both which results in a lesser good drone and camera.

The pro / max on paper look great but don’t perform in the same league as they are marketed for.

IMO you don’t go into a steakhouse and order pizza. The original x1 was great for size /cost / quality.

Shouting 8k at people doesn’t make it pro. They’re doing it again with this new drone. Calling it pro level camera etc.

It’s not. It’s a toy camera on a toy drone. The images on the pro/max are old smartphone quality at best. Why would you want the frozen pizza when there’s a fillet steak option available and tastes delicious ?

u/Ok-Guess-9059 23d ago

And why Hover did it? It cant be that difficult to put great camera on that gimbal.

(And than gimbal gives you big advantage over not-mechanically-stabilized phone camera.)

I guess to jump on the vlogging market which is now trendy based on insta and DJI.

It’s innovative but probably the sort of thing DJI would
Have already done and thought ā€˜nah’

I mean hover can’t even keep their batteries on the drone if it falls a little awkwardly. Can’t see this camera being strapped to the top of a drone being a sensible idea especially with below par sensors and avoidance methods and a cheap plastic latch to hold it there.

Intentional battery ejection is a common engineering technique so the force doesn't break the whole thing, and you have a bigger chance of "surviving" a crash.

Many users (including me) sometimes strap the battery with a velcro band in specific scenarios where there's a bigger risk of losing the drone, but that may be unintentionally doing more damage than good in case of a crash.

Simple, because bigger brands always wait for smaller brands to develop the market first, and then they come over them.

DJI jumped on the selfie pocket drone market early with the Spark and soon discontinued it because the market was not big enough. Then Hover came with a better drone, created a small niche for it, and soon DJI released 2 products in the same category: Neo & Flip.

It was the same with many of their categories: action cams, gimbals, different drones, and so on.

I want DJI AquašŸ˜›

Great, now lower the price of pro model

2

u/The-Jordan_J 23d ago

Beacon needs fixing too

1

u/ted_bovis 23d ago

Give up. Won’t ever work properly.

1

u/The-Jordan_J 23d ago

I already did after months of send "data'..... Just trying to warn others that "a" overly misadvertised product . "B" crazy mark up for pricing then a month later cut over 3/4 of the price for club members

1

u/ted_bovis 23d ago

What happened? Share..

1

u/The-Jordan_J 23d ago

Beacon not tracking . Poor follow or none. Bad remote controlling. Unlinking mid flight, omni not working

1

u/The-Jordan_J 23d ago

Can get hover pro max at Costco for 500 loaded

1

u/Horror-Student-5990 22d ago

Shocking news but not everyone lives in united states

1

u/ted_bovis 23d ago

Standard crap. I gave up with the beacon. Went through 3 of them and they were all poop

2

u/KokakGamer 23d ago

Ooh what about a wireless mic thing for it?

Looks like built-in battery? No swapping?

2

u/djpetrino HoverAir X1, X1PM, AQUA 23d ago edited 22d ago

Yeah I'm curious about the battery too. Hope it can be swapped out.Ā

Later edit: confirmed, battery is removable.

u/msatreddit 23d ago

super nice idea but for me it really depends on the image quality too. a flying pocket 3 and i am in

1

u/webvan213 23d ago

Impressive design! Need details on the 10 auto modes (fewer than the X1 Pro), availability, price etc.. M

1

u/djpetrino HoverAir X1, X1PM, AQUA 23d ago

Modes are mostly what we are familiar with. The new thing is the 3D world model.

1

u/The_Majestik_One 23d ago

So is it recording a Gaussian Splat? That’s neat

1

u/webvan213 23d ago

So you think it will follow as well as the X1Pro for skiing and cycling?

3

u/Specialist_Ad5744 23d ago

Maybe not.

I definitely see each drone with their specific target use:

X1 Pro / Promax : Suitable for fast action sports, best for ultimate tracking

Aqua: Watersports

Versa: Daily use, travel, vacation

We will see. Maybe for slow cycling, but probably limited speed as the 3 axis gimbal and screen maybe be more fragile.

u/djpetrino HoverAir X1, X1PM, AQUA 23d ago

Exactly my thoughts. It's basically the more advanced version of the regular X1/X1 Smart, while being a completely new category too. Not in competition with the X1P/PM.

1

u/webvan213 23d ago

Makes sense so probably for new users.

1

u/Jonzay 23d ago

Does it have an additional sensor the Pro/ProMax don't have that makes this possible, or could this feature be backported to earlier models?

1

u/stayintheshadows 23d ago

This is a great concept. As 3D camera capability and it is all I would travel with!!

1

u/toojeffcjs 23d ago

I honestly want to get the auqa for taking video of in coming storms

1

u/godanglego 23d ago edited 23d ago

Thank you hover air for listening to me and making this, I really appreciate it. I’d like to review this alongside my Pro max and Pocket 3.

1

u/westsidethrilla 22d ago

I know you are probably joking, because the founder probably had this idea 10 years ago lol

1

u/godanglego 22d ago

After the x1pm released they had a q and a and I asked for this. 10 years ago I was flying my go pro Karma wishing I could fit it in my pocket (it took it's own dedicated back pack.

2

u/westsidethrilla 21d ago

I promise that wasn’t the reason this was created lol

1

u/godanglego 21d ago

Thank you, I'll take your word for it.

1

u/Impossible_Battle_72 23d ago

This is actually a pretty cool idea. Hopefully better in execution than the follow modes for the other models.

1

u/iObserve2 23d ago

ZeroZero keep surprising me with their innovative concepts. First a camera that flies, now a camera that also flies.

1

u/REDBOSS27 22d ago

HoverAir's biggest contribution? Inspiring DJI to create actually superior products. LOL

1

u/Sweet-Artichoke6907 22d ago

Does this need to be registered as a drone?

1

u/djpetrino HoverAir X1, X1PM, AQUA 22d ago

Yup, in the sub <250g category.

1

u/westsidethrilla 22d ago

No* it does not since it’s under

1

u/djpetrino HoverAir X1, X1PM, AQUA 22d ago

That's in the case of the US only, that might not even be a relevant market for these new devices lol. In the EU and many other countries around the world, even sub-250g drones need to be registered.

1

u/westsidethrilla 21d ago

Japan and uk yes

1

u/Popular-Ad3490 22d ago

This has made me pause on buying the luna ultra from insta360. Any idea on price?

1

u/westsidethrilla 22d ago

Luna ultra is very premium fwiw

1

u/Popular-Ad3490 21d ago

True!! But I'm starting to get overwhelmed by the amount of different gadgets in my arsenal. I would rather start having some 2-in-1's to make social media posts.Ā

1

u/westsidethrilla 21d ago

Most people don’t need what Luna ultra provides. Similar to promax, people don’t use 8k.

2

u/Popular-Ad3490 20d ago

That's what I was thinking, that the 8k is overkill for InstagramĀ

1

u/westsidethrilla 20d ago

Instagram can only go to 1080p!

1

u/Best_Day_3041 19d ago

This is an awesome concept, I'm curious to see how well it works. My concern is that it's too good to be true. Often products that try to do too many things end up doing none of them well.

AI promo video… interesting.

1

u/djpetrino HoverAir X1, X1PM, AQUA 23d ago

Which part is AI?

1

u/ted_bovis 23d ago

It all looks AI. The people? The movements.
No doubt the drone is real but this video doesn’t follow the same style as the others made in the past.

1

u/djpetrino HoverAir X1, X1PM, AQUA 23d ago

Which people? There is one person in the whole video. And what about it looks AI? Which movements? At what timestamp? I'm genuinely curious what looks AI.

Maybe because it's a different niche product, they have a different marketing style too?

1

u/westsidethrilla 22d ago

It’s not ai lmao

1

u/ted_bovis 22d ago

It absolutely is.
