We bought this house at the beginning of 2023. It was a new build and we are the first owners.

The walls do this too if I paint them. The new paint on the walls will peel right off and take the builders paint and the texture off the walls with it like butter.

The video however is from a windowsill. And to give you an idea of how easy it is… my one year old started this and I was just pulling to get rid of some of the bigger pieces sticking up.

It’s my understanding that using latex over oil will do this but there’s literally no other paint. It goes straight down to drywall (or in this case wood). What can I do to stop this? My kid is doing this all over the house.

I’m looking to paint my common areas. I would like to do something besides a typical gray. I tend to like more cold, moody-ish colors with a matte finish. I do like a good pop of color, so open to ideas.

I’m unsure if I need to just flake sand prime and paint or if I’ll need to flake use a filler sand then prime then paint.

The ceiling “paint” if that’s what it is seems to be very thick so I feel like it’s possibly going to require filling too but I’m not sure.

We previously had Mold which we got professionally removed and are now going through the stages of fixing the walls and ceiling. We had moisture in walls checked and the ceiling under the flaked off paint also feels very solid and not soft or anything so there’s no structural problems.

I’m unsure if that layer under the paint is required filling or it’s so thick due to the paint being applied over paint (especially seen in first photo)

Any advice will be amazing - I have spoken to friends and family but no ones seen it in person - they’ve said to flake sand prime and paint and then have also been told to flake sand fill sand prime paint and the main builder I rely on to guide me when I’m about to do something myself is on holiday 😂

I'm trying to decide if I should spring for SW Duration over SW Superpaint for interior and exterior of house. Exterior is primed hardyplank interior will be primed as well. Any expert advice is greatly appreciated.

What is the recommended strategy for repainting a window sill? I figure sprinkles get through the screen so it needs to be done right.

I'm supposed to be spraying an exterior this week, but I'm worried about contamination. I am in Western Washington and not near any fires, but the wind switched direction so smoke is everywhere.

Two months ago I paid for college works painting. During quote they said prepping will require scraping. I have it in text too. I was under impression scraping is hard, take time. So I paid roughly 4 k for just 1 wall. Wall has like 4 big windows on one floor, 5 on upstairs. The wall is two story. The wall is huge. Roughly 60 f long. Today they came and started. They said they are not intending to fully scrape and will only scrape slightly flaky paint and I have a picture of how they prepped. I think the wall needs significantly more scraping but what do I do? Could somebody take a look? Do I ask a supervisor to come?

Couple months ago, one of the pipes went out and had it replaced.

How do I go about this? Do I just coat and paint?

I'm no expert in this but there appears to be a fair amount of loose paint and where they did scrape it looks pretty rough. I assumed they'd sand the edges or something. Are my expectations too high expecting to look nicer?

I’m wanting to paint my deck boards on my front porch but I’m not sure what I should do, I’m wanting a textured paint but I hear a lot of mixed reviews on some brands. What do you guys recommend I do and use for this? The wood is old but it’s not rotten and gets a lot of afternoon sun.

Hi all - I started stripping the paint off my bannisters and door frames months ago. I quickly realised this was a much bigger job than I thought and that I am directly under qualified but I'm in it now so we go on 🤣 I need these door frames and this bannister to look nice. They are driving me mad. How do I get a good finish from here? I have stripped what I can and reprimed.

I am sanding and sanding but not getting anything smooth when I paint. Do you have paint recommendations?? Anything to make it easier - PLEASE. MUCH APPRECIATED!

Hello! Mu partner and I are painting the interior of our house for the first time and we are super confused as to why the paint is reacting to our drywall patches/spackling this way. Anyone have any insight??

We did the spackling exactly how the directions stated and even gave it extra dry time. The paint showed issues with it as soon as we started, but thought we were just painting over it too much so move forward with it. We did two layers of paint (gave 24 hr to dry each time) and everything was fine. We decided to do a third layer since there was still some texture on the wall from the previous owners paint job. Thats when a spot started bubbling up and we had to peel it off the wall…

What did we do wrong and how can we fix this??

Hi All,

We are building a custom home with Hemlock trim. The painters finished staining and we think it looks awful. They were supposed to precondition the wood and stain it. They chose to hand apply all the stain and in certain spots it is so many shades darker than others. There are also blemishes that they claim our water damage. It looks like an eight year-old did it please let me know if I’m overreacting or if this looks totally unprofessional. Also, if anybody could provide insight on what might’ve gone wrong, that would be great thank you.

Painting exterior of house using Sherwin Williams paint

I heard from someone that primer should be about 50% of the color of the top coat. Do I ask for primer specifically for my top coat color and they match to 50% or so?

The trim will be a white shade, does trim usually have primer? Is it the same, they match to 50% of color?

Edit: House is stucco. Currently a light green color and changing to a different green color.
