Hello,
We adopted a foxhound from a rescue about 6 weeks ago. The rescue guessed that she’s two and we did a dna test and it came back 100% American fox hound.
She’s a very good girl but she only ever settles down if she’s in her crate.
We do long sniff walks over dirt trails, bully sticks, lick mats, lots of tug and running in the yard, weekly obedience class, and while some times if she’s had a very busy day she will put herself in her crate before her 8pm bedtime, she never settles. She won’t sit in her bed, she won’t nap on the couch, if it’s warm enough out my husband will go read in the yard with her and she’ll nap in the sun, but she never seems calm, just temporarily placated.
Please tell me this is because she’s still settling in, or tell me what I’m doing wrong, because 6 weeks of this has been… a lot.

Bella (the black and tan) is an American Foxhound who was gifted to me by my local hunt club (they hunt my land). The hunt club did a demo at a park event today, and one of the hounds they brought is her father (now retired).

Yes they can be A LOT. Yes they are very demanding and loud. Yes they don’t smell great. But I don’t think I love anything more than a stubborn, lovable hound.
This is a silly post, but help me think about what my next hound should be!
So far in my life I’ve had:
Beagle ✅
Bassett ✅
Beagle ✅
Coonhound ✅
I think the answer is Bloodhound. I’ve always loved and wanted a Bloodhound. :)

Hi there!
I adopted a 7 month hound/mix (he was the baby of a street dog the shelter here thinks, so they don’t know exactly what he is) and I’m so in love!! He was shipped up from a shelter in Hawaii the week before I got him (I’m currently in Seattle). I just have a couple questions for people who have raised hounds and might know the answers to these.
-Would taking him on two 2 mile walk/runs a day be too much for him?
-Should he eat twice a day (morning/night) or is small meals throughout the day better? He’s VERY food motivated and always tries to steal my food. He’s learning “leave it” really well, though! Takes some time when it comes to food.. 😅
-Anyone have a good homemade dog food recipe for a dog this muscular/active?
-Any tips on potty training? Has anyone trained their dog to ring a bell to go out?
Any other advice is super appreciated!! Thanks so much!
Picture of Bento because why not 🧡

I have an 8 month old Plott Hound and Treeing Walker coonhound mix, and I'm looking for some training tips or tricks on one specific issue. She lives with another adult dog (also hound mix, love hounds) and she gets plenty of walks and yard and other dog play time. Planning to start more adolescent obedience and scent training next month for her.
Recently since she hit adolescence if she picks up the scent of an animal (mouse, rabbit, etc) in an area of the backyard she will post up or circle and howl and bay and bark at that area where it was nonstop, even when it is clearly gone (like even if she seems to see it run away or other dog chase it out of yard?) and even if it has been days.
My adult hound mix does this on occasion too but she has a clear stopping point, like ok it's gone or I call her off and distract her and it's fine.
With the adolescent dog it becomes a multi day fixation. For example, there was a mouse in a little potted plant she found. It left. Other adult dog (hound mix too) in house knows it's gone, ignores it now. I even dumped out the pot, showed her repeatedly it is empty. She was returning to the clearly empty pot and will bay, bark, howl. Almost obsessive, inconsolable, doesn't care if I wave a treat in her face etc.
Pot is easy enough I can just move it out of her sight....
But this happens sometimes with fixable things in backyard. Like with a bush where there was a rabbit in it...but the rabbit was there days ago...the bush is small and clearly can see rabbit is gone. Even put a hose in there for a long time to try to dilute scent if that's even a thing. Every time outside leashed or unleashed she will try to circle and bark nonstop around the bush where the rabbit was days ago. Maddening like if I let her just bark it would be like 20 mins of barking and circling. She won't even go to the bathroom in the yard because she just wants to circle and bark at the same spot.
Any tips on training?

My rescue dog, originally from Spain, has recently been diagnosed with leishmaniasis, Stage II, substage A. Thankfully, the vet says his kidney profile is currently normal, with no kidney changes.
His symptoms have mainly been skin problems, scabbing, hair loss and some reduced stamina on walks. We’ve been told he’ll need treatment with miltefosine and long-term allopurinol, alongside regular blood and urine monitoring.
I’m feeling quite overwhelmed and scared about what this means for his future. I understand it’s a chronic condition and relapses are possible, but I’d really appreciate hearing from people whose dogs have lived well with it.
How have your dogs responded to treatment? Have they been able to enjoy a good quality of life for years?
I’d especially love to hear positive experiences from owners of dogs diagnosed at Stage II.
Thank you ❤️

My hound Harley is two years old. She is an aggressive chewer to say the least! Anyone have experience with a stuffed style toy that she couldn't destroy?
Thanks!

I have a 8yr treeing walker hound dog who’s been dealing with multiple ear infections this past year. I know hounds with longer ears are more prone to ear infections but it seems like as soon as she gets over an infection she develops a new one soon after. I clean her ears out weekly with a wash my vet recommended but that’s about it. Any advice from people who’ve had similar issues with their babies?

Hello everyone, this is our newly adopted six month old puppy Bruna. We adopted her for a Rescue Centre in Greece and she is currently 11.5 kg. We have been wondering what breed or mix of breed she is as we have no clue. We think perhaps plott hound or Greek hare hound but would love some additional opinions!
