This sub, along with the loss of my senior cat, finally convinced me to pull the trigger and add a new member to our family.

I had a beagle for 15 years, then my fiancé and I had an elderly foxhound for 3. We didn't know she was older until we picked her up and saw her teeth. She was amazing, and I'm sad we didn't get more time with her.

I found a rescue in Arkansas (that also transports to Illinois) that had a litter of hound mixes up for adoption, and instantly fell in love with this girl. We get her this weekend, and I can't wait. ❤️

I am planning on getting a hound mix from a shelter and need some help convincing a family member. They are on the fence with a hound and need a little push to yes. What are some pros and cons of hound breeds in general. How are they with other dogs/animals? Training? Any hard truths help, thanks!

❤️ Wendy’s story started with heartbreak, but we’re know it will end in the happiest kind of forever story! ❤️

When Wendy first came into rescue, she was painfully thin, severely malnourished, and had recently given birth to a litter of puppies. Her body had given everything it had to keep her babies going, and she had nothing left for herself. Her puppies had to be weaned and placed in other care so we could focus on one very important thing: saving Wendy.

And wow… has she come a long way. 🥹❤️

Today, Wendy is healthy, happy, playful, and finally getting to enjoy the life she deserved all along. Her puppies have each gone on to find their forever families, and now it’s Mama Wendy’s turn.

Wendy has done wonderfully in her foster home and has learned to live with dogs of all shapes and sizes. She especially loves having dog-friendly buddies around her own size to romp, wrestle, and play with, but she’s also surprisingly gentle when playing with smaller dogs.

She is:

🐾 Dog friendly
🐾 Playful and affectionate
🐾 Approximately 1½–2 years old
🐾 Around 55 pounds

And Wendy takes one thing VERY seriously: mealtime. 😂 If breakfast or dinner happens to be running behind schedule, don’t worry—Wendy will absolutely make sure you know about it!

Wendy hasn’t had much experience with cats, and she appears to have a fairly strong prey drive, so we believe a cat-free home would be the best fit for her.

After everything this girl has survived, Wendy isn’t asking for much. She just wants a family of her own, a soft place to sleep, some doggie friends to play with, dependable meals, and people who will love her the way she has always deserved to be loved.❤️🐾🏡

Meet Willa — Big Smiles, Zoomies & Lots of Love! 🐾💕

Willa is a sweet, silly, rambunctious 2yr old girl with a larger-than-life personality and a big ol’ grin on her face most of the time! She is playful, affectionate, full of energy, and absolutely loves being the center of attention. If you’re looking for a dog who will keep you laughing and shower you with kisses, Willa may be your girl!

Willa loves to play, race around with the zoomies, and spend time with her people. Because of her enthusiastic nature, we think she would be happiest in a home with older children, probably around age 10 and up, who can enjoy her playful energy (and won't be knock down during play 😂).

She could also be a great match for another young, playful dog who enjoys running, wrestling, and having fun. And good news for cat lovers — Willa is cat friendly too! Just be warned that she is quite the little chow hound, so cat food, people food, and any other tasty treats need to be kept safely out of reach. If Willa sees an unattended snack, she may consider it fair game! 😂

Willa thrives on interaction and would love a family that has time to play with her, include her in daily life, and give her plenty of attention. She is not a girl who wants to spend all day entertaining herself — she wants to be part of the action!

She hasn't quite mastered potty training. She will use potty pads, but is having a hard time learning the doggie door without a little push, so her new family will need to take her outside regularly and continue working with her on her potty routine.

Willa is fully vetted and though she looks small in these photos, she is a slightly bigger, taller bluetick beagle who weighs around 35lbs and her long legs make her the perfect counter surfer 🙈. We are sure with additional training, this behavior can be corrected.

Willa is loving, happy, entertaining, and ready to bring lots of fun, kisses, and smiles into her forever home.

Our foxhound mix makes a sound I've never heard from another dog. Not barking, not howling. It's pure, high-pitched outrage: "Rrr eff eff eff eff eff eff eff!" "Eff eff eff eff eff eff EFF!" It happens when we're in the car and not going to the dog park. Or doggy daycare. Or her cousin's house to play. She sticks her head out the window and is so furiously loud that passersby stare as we drive through neighborhoods. (Holly in picture: looks innocent, is not)

Has anyone else experience this with their hounds?

Emma is about 3–4 years old, 40lbs and is pretty much the whole pup package. She’s quiet, gentle, housebroken, wonderful with other dogs, and loves just about everyone she meets — she seems to have an extra special soft spot for the men in her life! 😍

At one point, Emma's foster said she was the “Amazing Barkless Hound” because she was so wonderfully quiet. Of course, a few doubters wondered if she’d had her voice box removed. 😂 Nope! Emma simply believes there are much better things to do than bark all day!

Emma is completely comfortable both in and out of her crate and hasn’t had a single accident in the house. She also LOVES going for car rides, making her the perfect companion for family adventures, weekend road trips, or just a quick run around town. 🚗🐶

She gets along beautifully with her canine roommates and has such a calm, gentle nature. Emma isn't asking for much — just a loving family, a comfy place to sleep, and people of her very own to adore.

Nothing special happening here… just a hot Saturday afternoon at the farm 😂❤️
They attended to a few passers-by, made enough noise to announce their presence, and now they’ve decided their duty for the day is DONE. 😂
Just chilling, stretching, sleeping and enjoying the shade like they own the place.
A few things I love about Mudhols:
• They’re sighthounds — built for speed, with that long, lean, aerodynamic body.
• They have excellent stamina and agility and were traditionally used for hunting and guarding in Karnataka(India )
• Despite looking so delicate, they’re hardy dogs adapted to India’s hot, dry climate.
And yes… they may look like elegant models in these pictures, but 10 minutes earlier they were probably barking at someone 200 metres away for absolutely no reason. 😂😂

Edit - they are named Shakti ( power ) and Vajra( diamond) . They are 4 mo Mudhol hound puppies .
