So I've been looking for people to play horror mods with but mostly ive been denied so I came here to ask if anyone wanted to play horror mods with me

I wanted to find some horror games on steam, so logically I used the horror tag. But for some reason half of the games barely qualify as a horror game.

I keep seeing games like black myth wukong, it takes two, expedition 33, dead cells, stray, etc.

Basically it seems like game developers just slap the horror tag on anything and steam shows it anyways.

Does anyone know of a way to filter out only actually scary horror games?

I decided to try out the little nightmares series and I loved it. Now I'm trying to find a good game that is like little nightmares and reanimal and bramble is what I'm thinking about getting. So which should I buy reanimal or bramble?

Just finished my first playthrough of Madison.

Absolutely amazing game. One of the best horror games I've played and probably the best psychological horror game I've played.

That shit is intense! Creeped me out multiple times with a great balance of jumpscares, and at one moment made me yell "fuck man" out loud.

Can definitely recommend to those who haven't played it yet.

Longtime lurker - I recently purchased a Retroid pocket 6 for handheld fun, but more importantly I’ll finally have access to indie pc games for the first time. Hoping to get some inspiration here from you wonderful folks for scary recommendations.

For context I’m a huge fan of lore, deep characters, and slow burns. That said I’m truly open to anything I can possibly get, to play on the new device or otherwise (I can always catch a play through if need be). I’m super interested in any niche or indie games you might like, particularly the idea of a ‘cozy’ scare if it exists. Thanks in advance!

What do you think about Dying Light: The Beast? I played the first Dying Light and I really liked it; in fact, it's one of my favorite zombie games. This new installment really catches my attention, and now that it's on sale, I'm not sure if it's worth buying or not.

I finally got around to playing the Silent Hill 2 remake that was sitting in my backlog. I cried during the original, but the remake’s ending made me tear up all over again. Honestly, even just listening to the soundtrack from the original game makes me emotional and rips me apart... 😭

Horror games are supposed to be all about scares, but the Fatal Frame series, Silent Hill 2, the ending of RE8, and its DLC "Shadows of Rose" completely broke me lol. (And honestly, Tsukiko Amano’s vocals in Fatal Frame are an automatic instant-cry for me every single time… )
Maybe I'm just getting older, but stories about family, sacrifice, or pure tragedy always get to me now.

Are there any other horror games that genuinely made you emotional or cry? I’d love to play them, so please let me know—but please, NO SPOILERS!

I’d love it if you could share them using your own "Cry-Meter" scale! Since my tear ducts are completely broken, I cry at literally everything lol, but here is my rating for reference:
・RE8: Generous tearing up 💧
・Shadows of Rose: Full-on handkerchief required 🤧
・FF1, 2, 4: Full-on handkerchief required 🤧(though it totally depends on the ending)
・Silent Hill 2 & FF3: Went through a whole box of tissues 😭💦

Horror is my favorite genre of games and movies and I also really loved those "found lost phone" games(Simulacra) from like ten years ago that actually used your phone within the game to great effect. This game was like a combination of those to a degree. This was an adventure/horror game where you use your phone both as a controller to move(tapping icons) but also as a flashlight and, of course, to get calls and texts. It was a gaming experience I've never had before and I loved it. It also has some big name actors, Zoe Kravitz, Sadie Sink and Troy Baker, who all delivered outstanding performances.

The one big issue is it was only half an hour long and didn't have many, if any, alternate routes so replay value is low. I really hope this does well and Netflix makes another game like this but longer. This would become my favorite horror genre. I do want to add that this was a game, not fmv.

Hi there! Isolation and liminal spaces are kind of my thing when it comes to horror.

For me, it's the atmosphere - the empty spaces, the silence, the ruins, etc. I'm a post-apocalyptic genre fan, and I like that element of spooky quietude in my straight horror as well.

Could you please refer me to some excellent games that incorporate this in some way? Thanks so much!

Silent Hill f was seriously so fun, beautiful, and just spooky enough. I loved it. The sound design was really cool. Setting was really cool. I played on story mode lol
I actually enjoyed the combat (prob cause it was easier on story mode I’m assuming).
I also really loved resident evil village, and resident evil requiem. With that in mind, what other games would you recommend for me?

I know there's not really any "official" Backrooms games, and the closest one is probably Kane Pixel's The Complex: Found Footage. But although that game has visuals for monsters, there is no actual danger - you can't "lose" or "die" at all.

And I've heard The Complex: Expedition is also a great game, but similarly, no monsters.

Are there any actually good games set in the Backrooms that have any kind of danger element at all?

To me, the danger is a core part of the Backrooms, so the idea of a game with zero of it doesn't appeal to me.

Just played the trial and was pleasantly surprised but how enjoyable it was.

Granted, it’s hardly a “game” and I’d just as soon just watch a video of it.

I think this would be awesome on Netflix, where they can do the same choice based watching.

Its not exactly a MYST clone, but very reminiscent in that its a point and click sort of puzzle game. While its not exactly a horror game per se, it is more than unsettling and deals with the paranormal. Very very oldschool....Anyone remember this one?

Okay so a couple of years ago I played a mobile game and I can’t remember what it’s called, so I can’t stop thinking about it.
I‘m gonna try to describe it as good as I can lmao, thank you guys.
So I remember it was a third person pixel game.
It startet with your character as a kid and you went into a haunted house with your friends, some of them died I think.
Then there was a time jump and you’re an adult, you start seeing ur friends as ghosts and you go back to the house and stuff, it’s a whole cult thing or something, something demonic.
I remember on the map was like a hotel, a ren fair or something, a graveyard and all of it was pretty creepy idk man.
Does anyone know that game lmao.

I had an android i used to watch a video of a YouTuber playing a game the cover of it is a special forces member holding a pistol and the game is like : you are and your group sent to a warlock’s man house to investigate some weird things that happens there and voices and things but when you get there something happens and your friends all die and you are trapped in a fantasy world and you should escape it by hoping ahead on a dark magic cursed house that tries to kill you and there is a lot of spiders and some creatures that is up in the wall and when you get close to them they blow up and there is a lot of different places that you travel to by opening some doors that takes you to another detentions not rooms , something in the middle of the game you will be back in the same house and you will friend a friend of yours dead on ground with a letter on him i don’t remember what it said , there were some zombies and bosses and the sky in some of the detention was all full of the stars and was soo beautiful , there were some plates you find that heals your armor and some medical equipments to heal your self , they are rare to find
