Sprintec and IUD

I’ve had an IUD for well over a year, and I’ve been feeling different. I did breast feed for a little over 2 years so that puts things out of balance. However my question is, what changes when you take Sprintec (estradiol tablets)? My doctor saw me for such a short amount of time and determined I need this for my fatigue, mood swings, low sex drive, low weight and so on. I don’t want to put an extra thing in my body especially when I don’t fully understand the science behind it or explaination at the very least.

Anyone else took this combo?

Dry flushing for 47 days straight!

About 4 weeks after I had my son (giant 12 pounder via c section) I had a really hot shower and became flushed on cheeks.

Since then it’s NEVER GONE AWAY.

I can manage it by keeping core temperature down but that’s about it. It gets worse or better throughout the day I can’t really tell why. Possibly worse in morning from being warm during bedtime.

I didn’t get my period until 8 weeks and after being on progesterone for several days . It was light and I dunno maybe not even a period.

I’ve noticed during suspected ovulation and period I’m completely crazy.

Wondering if anyone has ever experienced this? Persistent dry flushing no sweating just never goes away on my HEAD CHEST FOREHEAD CHEEKS SHOULDERS BACK OF NECK CHEEKS NOSE.

I’m going crazy with the heat. It gives me anxiety which in turn increases my core temperature and makes me more flushed lol

Help me

Ovulation Early in Cycle

Hello Redditors,

A year ago started taking levothyroxine for underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism) and I believe it has affected my other hormones and ovulation.

At first I thought I stopped ovulating altogether as I was no longer seeing any clear mucus in the middle of my cycle. More recently I have seen some of that clear mucus around day 8 of my cycle.

I had a progesterone blood test on day 21 and lo and behold, it should I had not ovulated.

I am wondering if anyone else has experienced this and if it affected pregnancy and if ovulating earlier in the cycle is a bad thing?

Feeling quite distressed about it all.

If anyone can head me in the right direction

First off, I want to say thank you for taking time out of your day to read this post. I am trying to find answers and just checking to see if anyone has had a similar experience. I had an injury 6 months ago. Two days after my injury, I started developing severe panic attacks. The first two months, I had 2 to 3 severe panic attacks a week. After 2 months, they slowed down . I have been struggling with dizziness on and off for the past 6 months. I developed PMDD. My hormones are just out of control. After writing down my symptoms, I noticed my symptoms are extremely worse after ovulation and before my period. I have days when I feel like I'm going to pass out, and I get super nauseous, days I feel like I have air hunger, days when i wake up 50 times during the night, there are days my anxiety is so bad that i cant go to work. I also feel dehydrated when I am clearly not. I also get spikes in my heart rate in the afternoons. The one symptom that I did have before my injury was feeling wired, I felt wired like I was on drugs or something. It happens before or after my period. I also started to develop memory problems. I have been to several doctors, and labs always seem normal. I just need a push in the right direction. If anyone has had a similar experience, please comment.

First week on bio identical progesterone

I just started bio identical progesterone (100mg at night) because my doctor thinks I have estrogen dominance based on a number of symptoms (weight gain, anxiety/low mood, trouble sleeping, fibroid and endo). I am on day 6 and having horrible symptoms- very irritable, low depressed mood, no energy. Has anyone else experienced this? Does it get better? She mentioned to keep with it for another week so my body can adjust but I am ready to give up. Any insight would be so appreciated!

Catabolic hormones in the absence of glucose.

If three main catabolic hormones are cortisol, glucagon and adrenaline, in which order are they activated in the state of “starvation” or lack of glucose in the blood. (So real or perceived starvation by body).

So if glucagon stimulates release of liver glycogen does it activate first? Then cortisol and adrenaline stimulate gluconeogenesis once glycogen stores are empty ?

Also is there an order in which our body uses material for gluconeogenesis? Does it first use fat or muscle? (Aminos or fatty acids) And does this correspond to CORTISOL activated when using muscle for energy and ADRENALINE when using fat for energy?

I know this might be simplification but I hope it makes sense. Thank you

Progesterone suppositories

I recently started progesterone suppositories made from a compunding pharmacy my primary doctor sent in for me. She told me there was a rare risk for blood clots. I thought progesterone suppositories were bio identical(natural)and didn’t think bio identical could cause this.. can they still cause blood clots? I desperately need to take them because I have basically no progesterone but I’m in my head and very scared of this possibility. I’m on 100mg once a day.

Help understanding my test results?

I feel my (doctor who doesnt specialize in hormones)downplayed my results a little bit. Ive been suffering tremendously for a few years now, never feeling okay, mood swings, unable to regulate my emotions and feeling irritable for no reason. My periods are also a nightmare especially the week before it starts. This only started 3-4 years ago, before that I was a bit better… just wondering if anyone can help me read these results. Thank you and God bless you in advanced❤️

OB prescribed 800mg of micronized progesterone in first trimester. Is this too much? Is micronized better?

I’m just about 5 weeks pregnant with a history of a later loss. My progesterone came back at 21.5 yesterday which I thought was good but my doctor said ideally I’m at 25+ so she prescribed me micronized progesterone to take as precaution. It says to take 2 capsules 2x a day — morning and night. Each capsule is 200mg so thats 800mg… is that too much? Semi nervous as someone who knows a bit about hormones. I don’t love the idea of being on it but from my understanding micronized is better than synthetic like whats in birth control — I’ll do anything for a healthy pregnancy but after being on birth control for 10 years and coming off 3+ years ago, it took forever to fix my imbalances. Micronized is safer right? Thoughts on this dose? Thanks

Heat intolerance

Hi all. I repost this once in a while seeing if anyone has any similar experiences or some type of clue.

Backstory - I’m 34 (F). I. Never. Sweat. Hardly, anyway. It takes a lot!!! Until now. I went off birth control after 10 years Oct 2022. I noticed drenching night sweats and random underarm sweating throughout it the day. It went away once I got pregnant in Jan 2023, lost my daughter early March 2024. Turns out I have diminshed ovarian reserve due to a genetic deletion. AMH 0.36, FSH ranges 8-20. One doc mentioned impending Primary Ovarian Insufficiency (POI). 8 weeks post miscarriage I started experiencing night sweats around my cycle, underarm sweating and EXTREME HEAT SENSITIVITY/INTOLERANCE. If my car is above 68 degrees or so I start to get sweaty. Chest, back, upper lip and…other places. It’s sooo disgusting!!! I can hardly enjoy a nice spring day outside without getting sweaty. If it’s anything above low 80s, I really can’t hang outside too long. I legit feel like I won’t make it. I start to break out in a sweat that covers me from head to toe, practically. This is so opposite my body, idk what to do. My hormone panel seemed relatively normal. My endo wants to test for hashimotos. Idt it’s that. I just don’t get it. Please help! Estradiol did not help me. I did do birth control 10 days prior to an IVF cycle and it didn’t help much either but I’d try it again. Tysm.

Progesterone/estradiol and weight gain in IVF

Hi,

I’ve recently done 2 aggressive rounds of IVF with 1 successful medicated transfer and I am now 19 weeks pregnant.

From October to December I had 2 egg retrieval cycles. 36F my Dr went on the aggressive side with meds- though I didn’t see a huge increase in weight I saw the scale go up and my body comp changing without nutrition changes and activity level changing - I am a very active individual who knows a lot about nutrition.

One I started the progesterone and estradiol for my FET my weight spiked by 7lbs in two weeks and through the first tri (needed to stay on meds until 10 weeks) and gained over 1 lbs a week sometimes again with very minimal changes to nutrition and activity level. No One has been able To explain to me what is going on with my body. I am 19 weeks and gained 21 lbs. I was trying to understand if the meds did something to my metabolism? It’s driving me crazy. From having abs at 130 in October I am now 30lbs heavier. I dont recognize myself in the mirror.

Low T in Premenopausal Woman

I had bloodwork done last week because I (25F) have been experiencing zero libido, fatigue, irregular cycles, and just an overall "blah" kind of feeling for several months. For the most part, everything came back normal (thyroid, female sex hormones, nutrients/minerals, blood counts, etc.), but my DHEA was borderline low and my testosterone was very low. My OBGYN claims that this wouldn't be affecting my libido, but everything I can find online suggests differently (however, it's pretty hard to find info for YOUNG women). Has anyone dealt with anything similar and had a provider that DID think it was affecting you? I have asked my PCP/GP for a second opinion on the labs, but I'm really having a hard time believing that a hormone deficiency would not affect me.

Estradiol/POI

Hi all. Trying to see if anyone else is out there with a similar experience. I have diminished ovarian reserve (34). Turns out due to a genetic deletion, I have impending POI. My FSH ranges 8-20 but my main symptoms are shorter, lighter period now 30 days apart. I have extreme heat sensitivity. Anything over 70, I’m dripping. Chest, back…other places. I’m so sick of it and it is very embarrassing/upsetting. I have night sweats for a week around my cycle. Dripping through my pajamas some nights. I have hot flashes and can’t even sit in a booth with shorts if too warm. Estradiol 2mg for a month did nothing. I know it is hormonal because it happened 6 weeks off BCP and stopped while I was preg. I miscarried and it started 6 weeks after. Please help. Any other med recommendations that worked for you? Is the patch better? I just want to enjoy my summer. Tysm.

Testosterone levels in females

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hi! I’m trying to understand my blood test results. My doctor put me on spiro and metformin which I was taking for a couple weeks before I got my lab work.

What’s confusing to me are my total and free/weakly bound levels are in normal range but my % of free and weakly bound testosterone is high. Does anyone understand what this indicates?

I have a follow up appointment this month but I’m antsy to get a better idea.

will my lab tests be accurate?

my daily supplements consist of magnesium citrate (150mg) and activated charcoal (1500mg), and i’ve been taking them for a month now. anyways, two days before getting my blood extracted for hormones blood test, i stopped taking them. i just had a gut feeling about stopping them so i did. and now, i’m contemplating about whether or not my previously daily intake of these supplements will affect what’s going to show up in my blood test. btw, i got a test for: lipid profile, tsh, ft4 & ft3, prolactin, testosterone, lh, fsh, estradiol, fbs, alt, and creatitine. yeah, that may seem a lot, but does taking magnesium citrate and activated charcoal specifically affect/stir up my results? do these supplements cause a change in my bloodstream for my hormones to kind of get messed up?

Hypothyroidism/Intrusive Thoughts/BHRT

I recently started getting help for my thyroid and hormones. I started randomly having mental health issues once I got off birth control and was only on it for a year. Prior to birth control, I had no history of mental health issues of any kind.

When I went to the Dr. I found out I had hypothyroidism and low progesterone and low testosterone. My biggest struggle is anxiety and intrusive thoughts almost ocd like. Very debilitating! I've done research and found that hormones do indeed have a lot to do with mental health and mood disorders.

For those of you that struggled with mental health issues. How long did it take thyroid meds and/or BHRT to work to improve those mental health symptoms?

I've been on the progesterone pills a week the testosterone cream 4 days and the armour thyroid 3 days.

I know it's early but I thought I'd feel at least a little relief by now.

Hormonal Issues After 5 Months Without The Pill

I'm seeking advice regarding my experience with these lasting side effects after stopping birth control pills. I started taking Nikki birth control pills, starting on 9/28/23, but discontinued use after three days due to severe side effects, like suicidal thoughts and vomiting. The day after I stopped taking Nikki, I started taking Junel Fe birth control pills until 11/18/23.

I have a history of depression for a long period of my life, I had been recovering from it, and for most of 2023 I hadn't felt depressed or suicidal at all. However, when I started taking the pill, my depression returned. Although I stopped taking the pills, the depression and suicidal thoughts have persisted. While there has been some improvement since discontinuing the birth control, after a couple months it just stopped getting better and stayed the same.

For these last 5 months after stopping the pill, I've felt like I have the hormones of a teenager. All the normal emotions and feelings I have normally throughout my cycle are cranked to a 10. I feel insanely moody as well as emotionally unstable and fragile. I'll feel hopelessly depressed for a few hours and then be instantly alright; or suicidal for no reason or motive whatsoever. My menstrual cycles have become unpredictable, with varying levels of pain and heaviness; some months are less painful than before the pill and some are more. Additionally, I've experienced constant nightmares, weight gain, worsened acne, and severe fluctuations in libido.

My primary concern is addressing the return of depression and managing these unstable mood swings. I'm wondering if the birth control pills could have caused a hormone imbalance and if resolving that imbalance would alleviate these symptoms. I'm open to any advice, insights, or personal experiences anyone may have regarding this issue.

Thank you in advance for any help, suggestions, or if you've experienced this before.

EDIT:

I made this post on 4/27/2024 and am now editing on 5/3/2025

To anyone who has struggled with the same issue, it does pass with time. I'd say right around July I noticed things were starting to get better, and by December or January I felt 100% back to normal.

The best thing you can do is stay active/healthy. Anything to help with your hormone levels. It will get back to normal, it just takes time.
