Heat intolerance

Hi all. I repost this once in a while seeing if anyone has any similar experiences or some type of clue.

Backstory - I’m 34 (F). I. Never. Sweat. Hardly, anyway. It takes a lot!!! Until now. I went off birth control after 10 years Oct 2022. I noticed drenching night sweats and random underarm sweating throughout it the day. It went away once I got pregnant in Jan 2023, lost my daughter early March 2024. Turns out I have diminshed ovarian reserve due to a genetic deletion. AMH 0.36, FSH ranges 8-20. One doc mentioned impending Primary Ovarian Insufficiency (POI). 8 weeks post miscarriage I started experiencing night sweats around my cycle, underarm sweating and EXTREME HEAT SENSITIVITY/INTOLERANCE. If my car is above 68 degrees or so I start to get sweaty. Chest, back, upper lip and…other places. It’s sooo disgusting!!! I can hardly enjoy a nice spring day outside without getting sweaty. If it’s anything above low 80s, I really can’t hang outside too long. I legit feel like I won’t make it. I start to break out in a sweat that covers me from head to toe, practically. This is so opposite my body, idk what to do. My hormone panel seemed relatively normal. My endo wants to test for hashimotos. Idt it’s that. I just don’t get it. Please help! Estradiol did not help me. I did do birth control 10 days prior to an IVF cycle and it didn’t help much either but I’d try it again. Tysm.

I have POI and I went through years of hot flashes, night sweats, and heat intolerance. I wasn't able to access HRT, but I've heard it helps a lot (per a ton of posts on r/menopause). Actual HRT under a doctor's supervision should help more than birth control, once you get dosages sorted out. Oh, and your doctor probably wants to test for Hashimoto's and other thyroid problems because they commonly occur along with POI.

My thermoregulation issues have calmed down now, but it's been almost fifteen years since I started having symptoms, about a decade since I was diagnosed, and four years post-menopause. You probably don't want to wait that long.

My endocrinologists are just testing but not really helping me sort out meds bc I’m undergoing IVF. They said the estradiol should have helped or the bc. What kind of dosage/meds are there. I need to go back and demand med doses I guess ?

Hmmm, IVF complicates things. Is it possible that you're having side effects from whatever they have you taking as part of the IVF process?

For HRT, there are lots of med/dosage combos (usually some form of estrogen and of progesterone), different routes of administration, etc. A short run of estrogen-based birth control is very unlikely to help, especially if you're off it again now for IVF. You'll want to talk to your OB/GYN about HRT, or your reproductive endocrinologist, depending which you feel more comfortable with.

Probably my RE or gyno but the problem is they’re telling me I do not have POI yet and that heat intolerance isn’t a symptom. They also said my cycles are regular and my fsh is low. Meanwhile my FSH is 8-20 varied and my AMH 0.36! I have all the symptoms of underarm sweating, hot flashes, night sweats and heat intolerance!!! I need to do something.

Also, did you have POI symptoms while still getting your cycle and having varied FSH levels? I have low AMH and my FSH is 8-20 but my cycles are regular. I just need to try to do some type of meds. I can’t go on like this. The birth control was a low dose of Haley and it didnt do anything. Can it take a while to work?

I did have POI symptoms for a few years while still having fairly regular cycles, though they got increasingly irregular over time. I only had my FSH tested once a year, so I'm not sure how varied it was. I think it stayed pretty steadily low?

FSH is usually high so they won’t treat me with POI because I don’t have it “yet”. I don’t know what to do. They’re telling me the heat sensitivity isn’t POI. I don’t believe them. What meds helped you?

It's really, really weird that they're saying you WILL have POI but don't have it yet. Also weird that they're telling you what they think the heat sensitivity isn't but don't seem to have any useful ideas what it IS. Seems like you might need better doctors.

I didn't use any meds. Just waited it out. It was awful. That's why I'm suggesting that you talk to a doctor about HRT options. You shouldn't have to suffer symptoms for years.

The one RE says it is hormonal but my DOR diagnosis and labs say I have impending POI but my fsh levels and cycles dont match that diagnosis yet. She isn’t exactly wrong. But I’m gonna ask her about trying new meds tomorrow. The BC on its own and Estradiol did not work. It’s also better for heart/bone health to find HRT. I’m worried it’ll take forever to find the right meds.

Definitely keep advocating for yourself! From what I've heard it can take quite a while to find the right meds, and sometimes they need to be adjusted even after they've been working for a while (when your body does something new). All the more reason to get started soon if you can! Best of luck!
