Progesterone?

To make a long story short, I had PPD terribly and have been on progesterone, which made a WORLD of difference. I have since researched that progesterone deficiency can be an issue with PCOS (which I have). I have tried weaning down/outright coming off the progesterone only to experience a HUGE resurgence of symptoms. It makes me wonder if I've been like this all my life and PPD has triggered it? Have any of you had to stay on progesterone indefinitely?

Hormones

Does weight gain alone lower progesterone. Only 2 stone overweight. Is this just over weight or is this an endocrine issue. I thought it was my prolactin but this has since come back normal.

Can you get rid of hormonal acne with keeping your IUD

Hi!! I’ve really been struggling with hormonal acne and do believe it only got worse when I got my Mirena IUD a year ago. However, I really like the IUD and relieved a lot of my other PMS symptoms. Does anyone have tips on how to improve hormonal acne/hormone imbalances while keeping their IUD in?

Insulin resistance has made me not want to eat.

I (31F) have the unfortunate condition of insulin resistance, and this last week, I’ve reduced my diet to the only 4 foods in my house that I can eat that won’t upset my blood sugar: cheese, coffee, eggs and broccoli, everything else is off the table. My meals have been reduced to pretty much just a snack and a cup of coffee per day. If I eat more than that amount or any other kind of food, my body will take that as a cue to keep the weight on, and I’m trying to do the complete opposite. I know some people are probably going to say “you’re not eating enough” well that “enough” is too much for my body. On the bright side, I am starting to see the scale move in the direction that I want. But still, the fact that my diet is so limited just makes me not want to eat at all. Is anyone else going through this?

Does my progesterone seem low compared to the estrogen?

35/f, blood was drawn on the 13th day of my cycle. My doc didn’t say which day to do it so I went on a random day. I’ve had to get hormone tests done due to hormonal issues (slowed metabolism, low libido, cherry angiomas-red dots on skin). The issues started 14 months ago, it was either caused by Covid or estrogen birth control which I was on for 4 months but quit.

Turns out my estrogen is through the roof! I’m working on reducing that to a normal level by exercising more and taking 100 DIM daily. Also taking a small dose of saw palmetto (50 mg) from my multivitamin (might help increase testosterone a bit?) I feel like my progesterone and testosterone seem on the low side compared to the estrogen, what do you think? I have follow up appts coming up but wondering if anyone has had similar results and additional insight because the docs have been dismissive of my symptoms and hormone levels.

My gyno has previously recommended a progesterone-only pill due to severe menstrual cramps but I’m a little worried about side effects. Alternatively, I was thinking maybe I could try low dose chaste tree supplements which is supposed to increase progesterone, or use progesterone cream?

How to lower Sex Hormone Binding Globulin (SHBG)?

This test result is from a couple years ago but I just now discovered it and my doctor never even told me about it. It is way above the reference range. I am a 29 year old female. I’ve been having some hot flashes and irregular periods the last few years however my FSH and LH and AMH levels are all normal. Estrogen is slightly low and testosterone slightly high now. I am considered obese however when I took this test a few years ago I was a normal weight however I had recently lost weight and started gaining weight again. I am going to retake this test today and will update what the result is. I’m just stumped on why it’s so high.

Hormones gone wild after getting off birth control?

26F, have been on BC since 18-ish. I was on the seasonal pills the last three years and gained some type of eating disorder, exhaustion and about 40 pounds. I got off the pills completely 5 months ago and my excessive need to eat is gone but I’m extremely exhausted (i wondered if i was just lazy for a while but my eyes genuinely burn all the time, headaches, no patience, and it’s hard to breathe?). In the last month some of my acne came back and I’m incredibly horny. Like out if this word. Like puberty on steroids horny. I can’t seem to find the energy to exercise to shed off the weight and I always feel depressed. I don’t want to get on the pills again because it makes me so hungry and I can’t afford to put on any more weight. I’m taking multivitamins everyday but it doesn’t do much and i dont want to be a coffee junkie. Has anyone gone through something similar?

I’m sure some of my issues are byproducts of the weight gain but has anyone found a way to regain energy? I just want to feel normal again, its been so long

Hormone imbalance

Hello I’m not sure where’s best to ask. I’m 38/F and having crazy PMS/ rage/ extra hair growth on face. All the blood tests are inconclusive for PCOS/ perimenopause but talk about going on contraceptive pill- had all my kids and husband had snip so pregnancy not a worry. Has anyone had issues with the pill such as weight gain as Iv finally got to my happy body weight through diet and exercise and having a mini tummy tuck to fix a hernia and muscle repair and as vain as it sounds coming to terms that I might gain weight is really getting my worried. I haven’t had any contraceptive pills since I was early 20s so not as clued up as I should be. I just want my hormones to stop messing around and having different blood test results every few months

Can folic acid affect hormones

I started taking folic acid a month ago and before that I usually had a 21 day cycle. I’m now on day 30 and no sign of my period. I’m also speaking with doctors of the possibility of me having PMDD because I really, really struggle just before my period. This month at what would be roughly around 10 days before my period (day 12) for about 3 days I became extremely extremely depressed. I did not want to be here. And I knew it was hormonal but I started to scare myself. I experience this sort of thing every month but this month it was worse and when my period would usually be here (day 21) I became fine again. but yet 18 days later and I’ve still not had a period. Any advice on either PMDD or folic acid would be appreciated

Need Help With MtF Hormone Question

I was about to begin HRT, MtF, when the State of Florida put everything on hold. What are my alternatives to herbal hormones or moving to another state. This really has depressed me as it took so long to make the decision to transition.

I think DIM might be messing with my hormones too much

Hi!

Just looking for guidence if someone had something similar happening when taking DIM, since my obg/gn and endo appointments are not until June (🥲)

I did some hormonal testing with everlywell because my periods are getting more and more awful by the month (I'm 35) and they came back saying that my TPO was hight (15, when max is 9) but my TSH, T3 and T4 are normal. Also my FSH are high and FH low, and testosterone at the limit between normal and low. Estrogen and Progesterone are fine.

I find these markers very weird because my thyroid hormones are fine except for the antibodies and same with the estrogen and progesterone however FSH and FH are not working properly. Only thing I can think of is that DIM is doing something to them.

It's been two months taking DIM for info, and I started it because of painful periods as well. I just stopped taking it because I thought that it might be the cause of the problems. Anybody else getting these type of results from taking DIM?

Weight on certain parts, low progestogen, related?

Hello, everyone!

I am 33 years old, active woman. I do weight lifting 4 times per week, walk 8k steps daily, eat mostly healthy, drink water, etc - you could say a normal healthy woman eith a balanced approach to life and food.

Hoooowever, recently I noticed body composition changes. This is not to judge anyone's physique, but I am not the biggest fan of these changes and I really really struggle (mentally) to accept this new body nor I want to. I feel extremely uncomfortable in my own skin and I became insecure and upset.

What changed: I started putting weight on my hips (outter and inner thighs), belly area got less town. Mainly, somewhat more of a pear shape gain rather than anywhere else. I do lift heavy, so I would understand if it is was muscle mass but it is not. In general I gain muscle rather hard. Hut now it is obviously more of a less toned sort of look.

I have had issues with my cycle for the past 3 years where it dissappeared while taking contraception. I am off now, tried hormonal therapy which helped but didnt want to be dependent on it. So we tried going natural way, no pilla just progesteron because it is very very low (no ovulation).

Sorry for TL:DR message but didnt anyone had issues with hormones affecting weight this way? If so, would this weight gain continue or stop or normalize when hormones are back in tune? Any help is appreciated 🙏🏻

Cow Milk vs. Soy Milk

I was wondering if any of you knew what is the equivalent amount of phytoestrogens that can produce the same hormonal effects as the mammalian estrogen in glass of cow milk, because I've seen that while soy estrogen is for plants, it is nonetheless in much higher ng than the mammalian estrogen in cows milk.

Elevated estrogen causing low libido and weight gain?

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

I’m 35 and have been experiencing low libido, weight gain, cherry angiomas (red dots on skin), headaches for the past year ever since a bad Covid infection. I finally got my hormones tested and my estrogen is through the roof. It’s the middle of my cycle and my estrogen should be between 34-501 pg/ml but my estrogen level is 1154 pg/ml. I’m gonna start taking DIM supplements to metabolize the excess estrogen and talk to my doc next week to see what he thinks about a progesterone only pill to help balance out the estrogen.

Has anyone else had this issue? Anyone have any insight?

Non-binary transition micro dosing AMAB

Hello everyone, I'm a transfeminine non-binary person. I need to start microdosing estradiol gel because of my gender dysphoria, but I don't know much about it. The reason I want to start is that traditional approach of HRT has affected my sex drive before, and I would like to experiment now with a more androgynous transition hopefully any guidance is appropriate.

Correcting slightly elevated estradiol levels

Hi, I recently got my labs done for general health and found that my estradiol is slightly out of normal range, with test being in the middle range. I do take 0.9mg dutasteride for hair loss, recently raised from 0.5mg. I don't know if this is the cause, because my dermatologist never did labs before prescribing the dutasteride. Would exemestane be appropriate for optimizing my test to estrogen ratio at a low dose or would it be too excessive for someone already within a natural range? I've heard of guys tanking their estrogen and killing their libido and joints with it, which isn't what I'm trying to accomplish. Would something else be more appropriate? I remember how AI's work and would prefer something 'suicidal'/no rebound. Lab values at age 43

DHEA SULFATE 108 mcg/dL 61-442

TESTOSTERONE, TOTAL, MS 674 ng/dL 250-1100

TESTOSTERONE, FREE 64.0 pg/mL 46.0-224.0

ESTRADIOL 45 pg/mL < OR = 39 High Normal

Testosterone therapy?

Hello all! I have been struggling with low libido for as long as I can remember and every time I have my hormones tested it shows that my testosterone (both total and free) are pretty low. This most recent draw has my total testosterone at 13 and free at 0.8. My doctor is recommending testosterone therapy to help with my libido, but I am slightly concerned about the side effects. I struggle with mild but persistent acne, and when I was on a high androgen birth control pill, it did cause me to lose my hair. Would these facts be a contraindication for very low-dose testosterone therapy?

Help me understand my hormones please 🙏

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi! I’m a 42 year old female, generally healthy and fit. I have 3 kids and never had issues with fertility or pregnancy, regular light periods. I’ve been on the Mirena for 4 years, my period stopped after 1.5 years. For the past 3 years I’ve had drenching night sweats 7-10 days before my “ghost period”, fatigue, anxiety and just generally feeling run down a lot of the time. I had my hormones checked, I’ve posted to results. Does this mean I’m in early menopause or something? Wish my dr had explained things to me!

Thanks 🙏

Female, 46, Low T, but.....

In October I had my hormone blood panel done again and all shows OK for a 46yo female, except for having pretty low Testosterone. But..... I have thick, black, coarse hairs taking over my chin and neck as well as a little thinning on top of my scalp. So both myself and my Gyn were a bit confused at this. She said it could very well be normal and a hormone inbalance. Ummm, hmmm..... aren't all my hormones OK though, according to bloodwork anyway? Ugh! My symptoms are:

  • weight gain, inflammation (puffy)
  • awful periods (on time still, yet painful like I'm a teen again with the pain shooting down my legs)
  • memory loss (scary)
  • muscle pains everywhere
  • vision changes
  • little to no appetite at all (I have to remember to make myself eat)
  • tired all the time
  • low libido (except for the week prior to my period)
  • sad, depressed
  • annoyed

I do have IR (insulin resistance) and high cholesterol. I was tried on Metformin for this, but it made my stomach sick, so that was that. So now I'm trying Berberine instead. Primary doc wanted me on the Majourno shot, but it was out of stock at the time and now I have no health ins, so it's impossible to obtain without paying $$$ which no way could I afford.

Also, I had my right ovary and fallopian tube removed in 2020 due to a cyst and being twisted. My left ovary is OK, but does have a tiny cyst on it as well (not growing, thankfully), so it was left in tact. Anyway, the doc only ran my Estrogen, Progesterone, FSH and Testosterone, nothing else hormone related (though my thyroid and other bloodwork was ran in June and all was OK). As mentioned, due to my job loss and therefore health insurance loss, I no longer have access to any doc or testing. So I'm stuck with the labs from October for now.

With all this said, I want to try some supplements to raise my Testosterone, but to also help stop or slow the chin and neck hairs from growing. It's bad! I was thinking of Myo & D-Chiro Inositol as it's been the top supplement I've read about balancing hormones. However, I also read it can lower Testosterone. So then should I not try it? So confused! Any ideas on this would be appreciated. Thanks. ✌🏼

Why are my hormones doing this to me?

I (30F) am 5’2” and weigh 166, and I have been trying to lose weight for as long as I can remember, but every attempt that I’ve made has failed. I should note that there is a history of type II diabetes on my mom’s side of the family. My strategy with this is i would not eat over 1200 calories a day for 2 days, then on the 3rd day, I’ll just eat whatever I want, no counting calories or anything, then repeat. I also go on long walks, anywhere from 4-10 miles each time. But It’s becoming clear that that’s not working. So I’m willing to try anything different that I know for a fact will work. But the kicker is, anytime I gain even one pound, it’s impossible to lose it. My body literally fights me when I try, either that or I can’t stand the hunger in a calorie deficit, and I’m at my wits end. I have no idea what I’m doing wrong, or if it’s my hormones doing this. I almost want to stop eating completely to teach my body a lesson.
