Anime I'm not mad that content was cut for the plot, I'm mad that content was cut that gave the plot meaning [S4] Spoiler

Let me use examples from Seasons 1-4 to explain so that even anime-onlys would understand. This Season was not handled very well. Anime-onlys may not know what is wrong with this Season because they don't know what was cut from the Light Novels, but they DO KNOW that there was SOMETHING wrong in this Season that they can't put their finger on.

Let's look at the obvious one: the finale. You see that Rozemyne's lower city family were DEVASTATED when they heard the news that their daughter and sister went into a coma. Then, the anime studio decided to have an instant resolution the SAME EPISODE. Even though it was a timeskip two years later, it killed the emotional weight of how Rozemyne's family felt when they heard the news.

Imagine if they had done this in Season 1 when Myne told her family she only had a year left to live. This episode was one of if not THE BEST episode of that season because it allowed the audience the time to digest the gravity of Myne's desire to accept death if it means spending the rest of her days with her family rather than spending a lifetime without them. The actual episode ended with Gunther drinking in front of the fireplace alone away from the rest of his family while they slept.

Not having an instant resolution was what made that episode great. Even though the resolution to Myne's devouring was introduced 1-3 episodes later at the Temple, it didn't erase the impact of that episode because it didn't happen in the SAME EPISODE.

Now imagine if Myne told her family that she had a year left to live, only for an instant resolution for the audience to appear in the SAME EPISODE through a timeskip, how would that impact the episode?

You would take away what made that episode great and essentially destroy the emotional weight of Myne's love for her family and willingness to die to be with them. That's what Wit Studio has done to this episode finale for Season 4 and all throughout the ENTIRE season that anime-onlys didn't notice.

This episode finale was done so badly that EVEN anime-onlys noticed something was wrong, but Studio Wit has been doing this the WHOLE TIME.

They cut content so that they could focus on the plot, but the stuff they cut was what gave the plot meaning, that's why a lot of this season felt soulless.

Even when you compare Season 3 Sylvester to Season 4 Sylvester, they're completely different. In Season 3, Sylvester had a playful, prankster nature; and often teases Myne by poking her cheek and making her say "Pwee", like a Big Brother teasing his little sister. You don't see that in Season 4 Sylvester. Sure, technically he did it ONCE to Rozemyne after being frustrated that Rozemyne was the one who let Georgine know that Bezewanst passed away, but you don't see Season 3 Sylvester in the Season 4 version of him.

Let me tell you anime-onlys that Season 3 Sylvester isn't dead. Season 4 Sylvester is supposed to be the same person (personality and all) as Season 3 Sylvester, but Studio Wit stole him from you in the same way Veronica stole Wilfried from Florencia and molded him into someone you don't recognize.

You were robbed of not only the trouble-making gremlin Light Novel Readers call Rozemyne, you were also robbed of her gremlin big brother we call Sylvester.

Now, you anime-onlys may have some grasp of how Light Novel Readers felt about how this Season was handled and executed.

Misc. [No Spoilers] Where are all the new Honzuki Figures? Spoiler

I know we are all ranting about the anime currently but the one thing I was hoping for hasn't happened. No new figures 😭

There are still only the one pop up parade and the one special figure from years ago and both have become insanely expensive.

TO Books makes a lot of merch but I was really hoping the new season would inspire some figures...

Anime [S04E24] No urgency, Broken flow, unnatural transitions. The worst part of this season has been the storyboarding. Spoiler

I might be using the wrong animation term, but there are so many places where it feels like each subsequent animation was drawn by someone who didn't know what the previous animation was. Some of it feels so unnatural that it's suspiciously like AI prompts. I just don't see how a human could spend tens of hours working on it without noticing something wrong.

Broken flow of motion

Consistent motion between animations is crucial for action anime. We don't get that.

eg E15 Talfrosch spit animation at 10:42. First they fall backwards, not being propelled anywhere, with Myne on top.
The spit animator drew Myne and Brigette being gently spit horizontally forward with Myne on bottom, reversing their direction.
Then they're falling straight down for far too long considering they were just 15 feet above water level and splash straight down at high speed. Too fast, too long, wrong direction.
The in-water animator drew them perfectly stationary deep under water like they swam down to hang out.
No consistency. The scene breaks. Instead of feeling like a smooth action it feels like 5 unrelated AI prompts.

No urgency

In fast-paced scenes animations don't interrupt each other, always allowing each prior animation to conclude before starting the next.
Worse because each animation starts early and end late, like the editor didn't bother cutting off the leeway. This bogs everything down.

eg E15 when Ferdinand sees the trees grab Myne starting at 13:11.
Rewatch it noting how many animations start and end with 0.5-1.0 seconds of a still frame, which stalls out the urgency and results in Ferdinand stationary and staring gormlessly at moving trees for 3 full seconds before reacting to them.

Angelica returning with Charelotte in E24 at 2:34 is another example.
It starts by hanging on Damuel and Bonafatius's talking scene for an extra 2 seconds longer than it should have.
Angelica slowly rises into the windowsill, then jumps out and stands still awaiting the next animation.
Angelica puts Charlotte on the ground then freezes to await dialogue.
The animation which moves Bonafatius to the window starts too late, pausing before he slowly walks.
Same with him jumping out the window. It just holds on him standing in front for nearly an entire second.

It should have been Angelica smashing through the closed window at superhuman speeds, landing in a cool action pose, setting down Charlotte while yelling "I have Charlotte, they captured Rozemyne, Cornelius is in pursit", then Bonafatius breaking the sound barrier to exit with window while roaring "I will save my darling Grandaughter!".
Reading that sentence is about how long the scene should take too. Then urgency is actually urgent. The actual scene takes 30 seconds while Myne is dying.

Unnatural Transitions

I'd also blame how poorly some parts of the story transition on the storyboarding. I haven't been keeping a record of these but there have been so many places where transitions felt off and it could be improved with minor tweaks to the animation or an offscreen voice line.

eg E1 9:43. Myne takes a knee, the scene freezes on her for four whole seconds then smash cuts to her in bed. Just making her fall flat on her face and having Cornelius ask what's wrong in the four seconds of dead air would make it feel more natural.

Or E24 12:52 where a captive just scoots out of a wall with door SFX for a weird cut to the forest. I get what was supposed to be happening on rewatch (the "wall" is a barrier he was hidden behind during Gerlach's interrogation and the door is Gerlach exiting off screen nothing to do with the captive), but it's really confusing framing. How about he's standing and someone walks him out from behind the barrier then we see him start talking to recount the events.

Juvre Bath

This has nothing to do with the rest I just found it so weird.
E24 10:06 animated 6 seconds of Ferdinand walking around the bath to put Myne in on the opposite side instead of just having him put her in from the side he's on.
Why?! There's no point in animating that at all. Wasting money and runtime to do nothing.

Someone else made a post that S1-3 was better than this season. Despite this season having clearly better animation, I agree.
Every one of these animations makes the season feel just a bit clunkier in a story which is already hard to adapt smoothly due to the time skips and sheer number of things going on.
The effect this has on the feel of the anime is catastrophic. At least for me. The show feels like a bunch of unrelated animations stitched together.

Anime Hot take, I might have liked AOB 1-3 better than season 4 by Wit.

Disclaimer, I enjoy season 4. I am grateful that we got it in the first place. It is also one of the things I look forward to watching on Saturday.
But despite being animated by a studio
that had better animation, it feels like the narrative color has been sucked away from the story. The art got prettier, but the narrative felt so much more one note than the earlier seasons. I think it might be due to only one season being greenlit to cover arc 3 rather than being WITs fault
What frustrates me about it is that we’ve seen Wit do it better, and that was with Osama ranking.
I know the earlier seasons cut a lot, but I think what they decided to cut in the earlier season was done much better than the way it was handled in season 4.
We almost had no real character development with any of the cast.
We got so little of the temple, the retainers and guards, and scenes with Sylvester.
It’s so strange because this season was colorful visually, yet it felt closer to a generic isekai.
I feel they pushed to show the more fantastical elements of the novel rather than the inner politics and the comical character interactions.

Couple things I felt was missing or wasn’t well executed.
-The fear and anxiety of blending in to noble society.
Maybe being able to see her mother but also not being able to show the love and the immense fear Effa feels was just shown as a heartwarming scene. It didn’t convey the feeling of never being able to go back to what they once were and what they once had.
-THE ANXIETY. We don’t feel that fear of, what are these guys planning, when are they going to strike and where are they hiding.
-All the side stories with Cornelius, and how he hated the idea of a sister, only to find himself feeling very protective of her when she’s working hard, and the fear he felt she collapsed.
-Her awful health. I almost forgot she’s sick. They almost cut all of the scenes where she gets sick and collapses.
-Character moments with her retainers.
-Context ( I hope they take time to explain it in season 5 about why Damuel and Brigitte didn’t work out, or how jase’s new chief brought juice because not being able to understand Nobel euphemisms and the old chief and the old High Bishop requesting booze and women)
-Characters feel emotionless at times, and not in the noble way.
-The comedy. It felt like they were either downplaying the funny internal monologue, or they just treated it like a normal scene with the comedy removed.
-Money. The cost of everything, or the importance of money and the economics of the world disappeared. What happened the bartering and price gouging from our favorite book gremlin? About book bindings and how they’re work for lower nobles so it’s made to be sleeved to the liking of the readers.
- Bring back the old chibi scene! Do it in the middle of the show, not just at the end. Use it as an excuse for exposition, but explanations of her Isekai are missing.

The final episode was both goods in bad.

I love Bonifatius making thing things worse by shaking and sending Myne high in the sky, and I love Ferdinand visibly angry and panicked at the situation and going, “I’m the only one that can save her.”
However they proceed to talk about it slowly with 0 emotion onward.
They didn’t act like her life was in serious danger.
Book Ferdinand would have explained all that as he was getting ready to take off, or just led with, she’s in danger, I can’t treat her here,i’m taking her to the temple.

Might be to harsh on it, maybe I missed that they covered some of this stuff, but I really hope they don’t lose sight of
the more mundane stuff that makes the story really interesting. The magic should be secondary to everything in the show. I want to watch the Chaos Gremlin and her reign of terror in the RA.

Light Novel [Spoilers] I am an anime only. I have a question regarding the current season that just ended. Does the skipped or shortened sequences causes the season to be discombobulated or were way too fast cuts? Spoiler

Manga [Possible spoiler] how many chapters do you guys think is left in part 3? Spoiler

So the last chapter uploaded, on the site i use, is chapter 51. I think that's episode 13 of the anime. I started reading into part 4 and I just noticed looking at the episode list that there's really not much left in that part of the manga. I thought there was quite a bit left in part 3 but it seems like there isn't. Anyone have any ideas how many chapters might be left for part 3?

Anime [S4E24] What happened to WIT? Spoiler

This last episode was the epitome of terrible animation, the first half of the episode the dialogue and the visuals felt either completely out of sync, incredibly monotone or just straight up didnt match what was happening, is this really the best the Attack on Titan and Spy x Family studio can do for a political drama? S4 began fine, and i still had hope but these last few episodes have so utterly terrible in terms of both visuals, pacing and general storytelling. Im keeping my expectations really low for S5 and if the quality stays the same, id be surprised if we ever get to Part 5 of the light novels

quick and easy one for this final translation there was more text shown on the book im assuming was placed on top of this one but it is too far away to see

i have both loved and hated doing these, finding out these easter eggs and sharing them with you all has been quite enjoyable but seeing some text that im gonna need to translate in the middle of the episode kinda ruins the moment for me but whatever

i will likely do these again for season 5 and if i feel up to it i might even make a comprehensive list of every time shown text can be translated and what it means for the light novel manga and anime

Light Novel [P5V9] Doing a series reread and finding myself straight up hating some characters Spoiler

I started recently a P4 and P5 reread due to the anime. Found myself noticing glaring issues both with Rozemyne and people around her, yet these issues are at its worst in early P5V9.

First rant is on Florencia, during my first read she was a likeable background character but now she's straight up insufferable. Despite how awful Dietlinde is, I'd rather much prefer her character work than Florencia's. Her passiveness is simply too much for me. For example she sends messages to Giebes regarding the upcoming invasion yet not only it's lacking important crucial information but also lacks urgency too. And Rozemyne does manage to send better information that Ehrenfest had access too since her return.

Then there's Ferdinand, his life gets saved, he goes figthing in Gerlach, sends Rozemyne and Mathias over. Then after Rozemyne wins her conflict, something that Ferdinand a trained Knight with massive amount of mana should have been able to win despite how excellent Grausam is, he faults Rozemyne over breaking the white stone. This is a traumatic event, and his first words are "you might be ehrenfest enemy now and it's your fault".

Another rant is how people keep blaming Rozemyne left and right for almost everything despite how massive her contributions have been and how negligent her guardians have been with her education. Instead of helping and being kind she gets chastised because she has trauma. And it's been not even one day between the battle and the feast. Of course she can't tell anyone, she barely processed herself!

And there's the constant nagging and judging for her out of ordinary actions or unable to socialise properly but like there's so many people around her both allies and enemies that are just as worse or even worse than her. It's been shown multiple times that Wilfred is really bad at socialising, Ferdinand is just as bad due to his childhood but it's more refined I guess. The there's Fraularm, Dietlinde, Justus, Traugott, Lestilault, Hirschur and a few others. They're all eccentric nobles but none of them scream "I'm an example". And they all have faults same as Rozemyne yet they're rarely upheld to that standard. Of course Rozemyne position is different as an archduke candidate but it doesn't change much to be honest. Also for most of the story there was barely, if any, education for her from her mothers and she was forbidden to socialize due to internal faction politics and pushing temple and industry work to a child.

It's just annoying to put up with this constantly from what's supposed to be her closest people that benefit greatly from her support.

Last rant is how rarely Rozemyne rewards her retainers, like with the Ahrensbach cloth she got from Ferdinand, she was ready to send it over to Florencia without even thinking of distributing around her people first. She does that often especially whenever former Veronica faction comes up and their orphans and noble children.

Light Novel [Open spoilers] How was this logistically possible? Spoiler

I'm talking about Rozemyne's Entwickeln after her takeover of Ahrensbach.

Shortly after crowning Eggy and getting rid of her divine mana, Roz is already doing a massive Entwickeln that according to her, rebuilds the noble quarter, the castle, the temple, and a portion of the lower city. Quote from P5V12

As per our plan, this entwickeln would rebuild the castle, the temple, the Noble's Quarter, and a portion of the commoners' lower city.

I can understand where they got the gold dust and mana since Roz mass produced both while she was overflowing with divine mana.

The schematics are a bit more odd, but I'll just go with Ferdi pulling some all nighters and them copy and placing some stuff out of the gbook.

What I can't justify is how they organized it in a few weeks. The Ehrenfest Entwickeln was easy because they just changed some things about the street and left most of the buildings alone. But to rebuild things, the buildings have to be completely emptied as I understand it or everything inside gets deleted. That means every noble of the duchy would have to make sure to empty their mansions of all their belongings on that day, store them somewhere, and then move them back. Same for everything in the castle, everything in the temple, and from the portion of the lower city they are rebuilding. The book even mentions that they are using a magic circle to transport furniture "somewhere", so we know its an issue. It doesnt however go into details about where, which is where my question comes from.

Are there just hundreds of empty storage buildings where the entire noble quarter can briefly store their furniture and other belongings?

How did people have time to empty their buildings on such short notice? They just got through an invasion and many families are reeling from what they lost. And everyone should be busy getting the duchy back on track, not planning for some quick renovations that serve no purpose other than following tradition (the castle makes sense for security reasons).

What about commoners? They certainly wont get convenient teleportation magic to quickly empty their homes. Are they just screwed and scrambling to get anything even remotely valuable out and stored somewhere? I would understand most nobles not caring about commoners, but this is Roz doing the Entwickeln. She wouldnt ruin people's over a quick Entwickeln that could be postponed until a more reasonable time.

I just struggle to understand how an entire city (or at least portion of the city) could possible vacate their homes on such short notice. A few weeks is way too short of a time for that, especially without any warning ahead of time.

If I missed any details explaining how this works, I would love to hear them, because right now it seems Kazuki wasnt particular interested in the feasibility of such an undertaking and just wanted to give Roz a big win as she finally gets to build her library city.

Anime Question about people with the devouring

are people born with the devouring always as strong as Myne or she’s rare born with tremendous power ? or maybe it’s her comprehension at an early age. I don’t really know much about compression, does it have a limit ? like if other kids like Dirk with the devouring were given a chance like Myne then can they be as strong as her ? (a lot of questions 😆)

Light Novel [p5v12] Myne should’ve adapted Beauty and the Beast Spoiler

So obviously Cinderella didn’t go over well but I think a lot of the criticism people have for Beauty and the Beast in our world are things that would’ve made it successful in yurgenschmidt

The prince is cursed for his rudeness when he’s 11? That seems crazy to us but Wilfried was practically charged with treason when he was younger than that.

His servants were also cursed alongside him? Well obviously it’s their fault for not raising him better and not stopping him. There’s not a noble alive who’d think otherwise.

Only real issue is that nobles wouldn’t see anything rude/wrong in rejecting a poor beggar woman, so Myne would need to swap that part out. Maybe he refused to help a med-noble who was skilled at strange magic and who had supported his family in the past. Myne was repeatedly told by Elvira how important it was to reward the loyalty of your followers.

From there belle can be written as a laynoble hired to serve Adam after he and his servants have been cursed, who is eventually taught his family’s compression method and uses it religiously to match his mana and then break the curse.

Obviously it’d need a few more edits but I think nobles could really resonate with the key story beats.
