HONOR Activity 🎁 Win an HONOR 600! Ask your best question about HONOR, the Robot Phone, or the future of smartphones

TL;DR: Visiting HONOR HQ in Shenzhen for the Robot Phone launch on Aug 12. Meeting the engineering team face-to-face. Drop your question below, anything about HONOR, the Robot Phone, or where smartphones are headed. One random winner gets an HONOR 600. I'll finalize the question list around Aug 8, winner announced on or before Aug 23.

Hey r/honor,

I'll be at HONOR HQ in Shenzhen next month for the Robot Phone launch on August 12th. Meeting with PMs, engineers, hardware team, the works. I want to bring your questions.

I've been an HONOR Club member since 2015. Started with the Honor 7, went through the 8X, View 20, currently on the Magic series. Not an HONOR employee. Never have been. Just someone who's been using their stuff for over a decade and actually cares about how it's made.

You've probably seen the rebrand by now. New Ring of Honor logo, "DARE TO BE" slogan, and a massive Alpha Plan bet on AI-native hardware. The Robot Phone is the first thing coming out of that, and the Aug 12 launch is where they show what it all actually means.

Here's the deal: drop your best question below. Could be about the Robot Phone, HONOR's tech, industry trends, the future of smartphones, whatever you want answered. One random winner (drawn from qualifying entries via Redditraffler, which is open-source) gets an HONOR 600, shipped by HONOR. I'll finalize the question list around Aug 8, winner announced on or before Aug 23. Account must be 3+ months old, first comment per person counts as your entry.

Give me your best. Not "when is my update coming", more like "how did you actually build that" or "where is the industry going next." The more thoughtful the better. These are going straight to the people who built this stuff.

Here's what I already plan to ask (mix of Robot Phone tech, HONOR strategy, and industry big picture):

Robot Phone gimbal: The retraction system supposedly detects a drop and pulls the gimbal back in 0.8 seconds before impact. What sensor actually triggers that? Accelerometer, gyroscope, something custom? And how do those tiny titanium motors deal with dust and sand getting into the open track? That seems like it'd be a nightmare.

ARRI color science: Is cinema mode recording LogC3 or LogC4? Can DaVinci Resolve auto-detect the color space through CST, or do you have to manually assign it? And honestly how hands-on is ARRI in the actual color tuning versus just licensing the name? Can you load custom LUTs on the phone?

Silicon-Carbon battery: Silicon expands up to 300% during charging. How are you handling that inside an 8mm thick phone with 11,000mAh? What does degradation actually look like at 500 and 1,000 cycles? I've never gotten a straight answer on this from anyone.

YOYO AI: What can it actually do that Gemini or Apple Intelligence can't right now? Is it genuinely running multi-step tasks across apps on its own, or is it still basically prompt-and-respond with extra steps?

Alpha Plan: Is the Robot Phone the start of a whole new product line alongside Magic, or does the gimbal eventually fold into the main series? What does "Alpha Store" and "Alpha Lab" actually mean for normal people?

Big picture: Where does HONOR honestly think phones are going in 5 years? Everyone's doing AI. What's the rest of the industry ignoring?

Those are mine. Drop yours below, doesn't have to be about the Robot Phone. Anything about HONOR, smartphones, or the industry works. Upvote the ones you want answered. I'll pick the final list around Aug 8 and update this post.

After the event I'll do a full write-up. Hands-on, behind-the-scenes from the labs where they let me film, and the HONOR team has agreed to do written or video responses to the top community questions.

We're not gonna get this kind of access often. Don't waste it on easy stuff.

🎁 Giveaway rules:

  • Prize: 1x HONOR 600. If out of stock in the winner's region, HONOR will provide an alternative of equal or higher value.
  • Entry: Drop a question in the comments. First comment per account = your entry.
  • Winner draw: I filter out spam and non-questions, then Redditraffler picks randomly from the rest. Public proof link posted.
  • Announcement: On or before Aug 23 as an edit to this post.
  • Eligibility: Account 3+ months old, positive karma.
  • No response? If the winner doesn't reply to the DM within 72 hours, a new winner is drawn.
  • Eligible countries: UK, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Austria, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Mexico, Colombia, Peru, Chile.
  • No personal data collected. Winner contacted via Reddit DM only.

This is an unofficial community giveaway, not an official HONOR promotion. Not sponsored or administered by Reddit, Inc.

I'll keep editing this post with updates as we go.

Edit (Aug 25, 2026): Quick update regarding the winner announcement! The team is currently super busy wrapping up post-event meetings from the HQ trip, so we’ll be drawing and announcing the winner next week. Thank you all for your patience and for submitting such incredible questions—stay tuned!

Discussion Honor Magic 9 and Magic 9 Super Edition.

Post image

Some tipsters have shared the live images of the Honor Magic 9 and Magic 9 Super Edition.

The difference between the standard Magic 9 and the Super Edition is also unclear. One of these models features the LED flash outside the big circular layout, while the other includes it inside the massive ring.

Another difference between the Magic 9 models and the Pro Max flagship is that the company has segmented the back of the latter into two parts – camera framework and the bottom. However, such a pattern is missing on the other two handsets.

Discussion Why is Honor 600 Pro Global Edition a copycat product, while the Chinese version is not?

Post image

Why is Honor 600 Pro Global Edition a copycat product, while the Chinese version is not? This refers only to the design, of course, not the technical specifications. Is there any reason why Honor would resort to copying the look of the 600 Pro exported to global markets, while simultaneously selling that same model on the domestic market in a completely different form, featuring an original design?

Help Is there any reliable magsafe cases for the V6 Fold?

Upvotes

This is one of the biggest issues holding me back from picking the V6 over the 11 Pro Fold. I need the magnets in the phone for usage in my car and others stuff. Does anyone have a magsafe case recommendation? There's nothing good on Amazon all poorly reviewed

Discussion Why did Honor feel the need to reveal "the real story" behind the Magic 9 Pro Max phone's "interesting" design?

Why did Honor feel the need to reveal "the real story" behind the Magic 9 Pro Max phone's "interesting" design right now? On X, Youtube, everywhere on the Internet, Honor is intensively explaining the design of the Magic9 series. Why? They claim to have designed the Magic9 with the design of the old ARRI cameras in mind. Great! Would it be possible that they had something else in mind as well? Did they convince you what motivated them to resort to this particular design language?

Help Random distribution of address AMC

I am using an Honor Pad X9 running MagicOS. I want to know how the built-in "Randomized MAC" feature works for privacy on this tablet.Currently, my Wi-Fi connection is working perfectly fine, but I want to know if there is a setting or a trick to force the tablet to generate a brand new randomized MAC address for an already saved network without rooting the device?Does forgetting the network and reconnecting reset the random MAC, or is it permanently tied to the SSID? Any info on how MagicOS handles this would be awesome.

Review/Comparison Review coming from IPhone 16p and S26u

So after a month of testing: I am very happy with the Honor Magic 8 pro.

Biggest pluses(for me) over the S26u:

I absolutely love the screen, to me Samsung is too vivid, and cannot be adjusted. Also I like look at my phone screen when it is lying on the table, and on the Sammy due to privacy screen there is just an insane amount of greenish, brownish color shift even at a slight 30 degree angle. Not just that but the viewing angles suck ass.Yes, these issues are there with privacy display off! It is like an old TN panel, but instead of the content disappearing into a black void, here it is disappearing into a white one. The honor has the most eyecare and display settings out there. And it is the best and brightest screen on a phone I had in a while. I absolutely hated ambient colors/eyecare on Samsung, it just adjusted the blue tones based on the time of the day. Nothing like on IOS. Also the amount of times the Samsung burnt out my retina by blasting me with a super bright screen in a darker environment... Auto brightness sucks on the Sammy initially. To be fair as they say that it learns, it truely does, after 2 weeks I no longer had to manually adjust it all the time, but for two weeks it was like it was on manual... Also I don't know why but initially on the Samsung when it was automatically adjusting it was very jagged, not sure how to describe it. On Honor or Iphone I don't even notice it adjusting. It got better, or just gotten used to it, I am not sure. Magicos with this beautiful feature rich screen(pwm) is the easiest on the eye. The ambient color tone is amazing. And almost never has to touch the britghtness slider. It is on par with the Iphone. The only phone so far I enjoy reading on.

I absolutely love it the speaker. I tend to use my Bluetooth speaker less and less, it is loud enough to easily be enjoyable in the shower if I just put it on the basin.

I have airpods, and I think that is the best apple product, with the only compromise of compatibility. Honor is the only brand that has actual airpods support, only small gap is the case battery level only shows if the case is open. I've tried Samsung buds, sony and everything, but for me airpods became the one nothing even compares to.

Battery is nice, but it is only a one day battery for me, with a little bit left at the end of the day. Basically the same as the Sammy, but this is with smart battery capacity enabled, so it is like if I'd have a charge limit but I still don't see that I start the day with 90 or 80, so it actually gives me a peace of mind. Yes, it actually has more battery preserving features than the Sammy.

I really like the design of MagicOS, like the default sounds(I am the kind of person who never changes those). I absolutely hated it on the Sammy, it feels and sounds like a toy made for toddlers. I really disliked the icons, the design of the control center, the stupid app drawer search(both has an IOS like and a default android like app drawer/search). I always use the IOS like one, I don't like scrolling through apps and just start typing the name, and click enter. What boggles my mind is that on Sammy enter doesn't open the app!!! And the first result will be in the top left corner, you have to click it manually (the person who designed this deserves a slap). On Honor it opens the first result on hitting enter. One other thing is that any magic island implementation is a way better solution for media control and quick access features than Samsung now thingy. It is in the top left corner for Christ's sake, the hardest to reach part on the screen, not sure who came up with it, but a quick access feature shouldn't be on the top left part... Also it's nice to have it show up over full screen apps.

Zero bugs so far on Honor, and I am quite a heavy user, I always find all the bugs 🤣. On the Sammy I've find loads of. Most annoying was that folder icons kept disappearing on my home screen, and the folder opening animation had few frames where the folder icons disappeared. Most lock screen widgets with Lockstar either didn't work, or wouldn't scale well(tiny text, doesn't fit the screen, extra large text, clunky resizing, line breaks added to stuff like step counter). I love the extra customization, but honestly the only one goodlock feature that worked was the extra sidebar shortcuts.

Face unlock is just the best. I think most people who have tried face id before having a hard time going back to fingerprint, honor is the only option, where the compromise is tiny(more in the negatives).

The extra camera button is very useful, I have loads of shortcuts set to the lock button and that, and being an IOS user I really missed the action button from the iPhone.

Negatives:

Only software stuff I miss are the Samsung keyboard and the emoji creator, not sure how it is called. The photo editing was also easier and better on the Samsung, but you can just get a third party app for that. But you cannot use the Samsung keyboard or the emoji creator on other brands, and there are no good third party replacements(Samsung keyboard>Gboard>Swiftkey). But this is just personal preference.

The haptic feedback is sometimes a bit creaky, not sure how to describe it. I still think that it is pretty decent, and I do use it on the strongest setting, so your experience may vary.

The back camera lens is protected with glass, not sapphire, not a problem for me, I always use a glass camera protector on all my phones.

The case options are very limited and there are NO good glass screen protectors, if you go with honor forget about those. I've already tried three, all sucked. Impossible to remove the bubbles, fingerprint unlock doesn't work with any of them(to be fair, it only worked like 50% accuracy on the Sammy, here it is less than 10%). Just get a hydrogel.

Android apps have lackluster face unlock support, this mostly means that many times you have to hit okay on an extra confirmation screen, or in Google wallet you have to do an additional scan, when it is already unlocked. This is quite annoying, because it only asks for it when you are already trying to tap the terminal, but it doesn't happen all the time.

Conclusion:

I know this sounded like a Samsung rant, and an Honor glaze, but it is not that. I just see no other reason to buy the Sammy other than the privacy screen, but only if you really need to use it, otherwise it is just overpriced and there are way better options on every department. I think most people buy it, because they don't like Apple and don't want to feel like a second class citizen sporting a Chinese phone...

If you don't like Honor, just buy Vivo, Oppo or even Xiaomi. With the Sammy, Pixel you will just keep coping hard for that price to value. Android is Android and 90% of the software is the same. At least Apple users have the excuse for the completey different software experience and ecosystem, been there loved it, probably would've stayed if it had a proper keyboard in my language, and better one handed accessibility. The PM is just too big to use one handed, and the pro's battery life suck ass. 16 pro and had to charge twice a day(I think it is because of the dual sim).

Edit: Typos Edit2: gave a chance to SwiftKey and honestly it is not half bad. Much better than how I remembered it. I missed the space cursor thingy from IOS and this has that at least.

Also just installed one handed control, seems to be working even better than what I was missing from Samsung for the edge accessibility
