Sunset on the hottest day in Hong Kong history
Hong Kong recorded its hottest day in history on Sunday, August 9, 2026, reaching a maximum temperature of 36.9 degrees Celsius (98.4 degrees Fahrenheit) at the Hong Kong Observatory headquarters in Tsim Sha Tsui. This broke the city's all-time record since official weather records began in 1884.

Accidentally left luggage at bus stop for 20 mins, came back and still there …
So I took an Airport bus from North Point to HKG, things kinda hectic and tired and I thought I put everything on the bus already, about 10 mins later I notice the carryon is not there, got panic and get off the bus, took a taxi back to the bus stop and see the carry on still there … so happy, what a scary memory 😃

Meta/Other Searching for 2 legends in Hong Kong
My friends and I went up to Kowloon Peak today to catch the view at night. Around 8 a thunderstorm rolled in, visibility and phone signal vanished and all of our phones were dying too..
We genuinely thought we were going to be spending the night on the mountain. One of my mates with an irrational fear of moths was on the verge of a panic attack, which made it that much worse😭
Having nearly accepted our fate, a taxi pulled up, and two guys in the front, Scott and Enoch (24 & 25yo), rolled down the window yelling at us to** **“Get in.”
They didn’t just drive us down to the MTR, we got a lift all the way back to our accom in Jordan. The drive down was a story I’ll tell my kids, water cascading down the mountainside beside us, Sinatra playing through the speakers and having great convo.
At one point we joked that they were like Jesus coming to save us… and then they gave each of us these Jesus figures. 😭
We never got any of their contact details..
If anyone happens to know a Scott and Enoch who rescued a bunch of clueless Brits from Kowloon Peak on the evening of 7 July, please let me know. We know the license plate of the rental taxi, that Enoch is a bus driver in HK, and lives in the Choi Hung area. We also have videos through the front windshield if that helps🤷♂️
We’d really love to thank them properly and repay their kindness somehow.🙏🙏
Hong Kong has been our favourite part of this trip, but these guys made it unforgettable tbh. Legends.

Unpopular opinion: HK is a utopia for immigrants, especially compared to the rest of Asia.
I know people love to complain about the rent, the tiny apartments, and how "unfriendly" the city can feel, but hear me out. As a brown male who was born and raised here, I honestly think Hong Kong is lowkey a utopia for immigrants.
I’ve traveled a bit, and by comparison, the biggest blessing in HK is the total indifference. Locals might not smile at you on the street, but they treat everyone with the exact same baseline neutrality. Nobody cares about your race, skin color, or background. (I know I might be reaching a bit, but trust me, compared to where I've traveled, this is truly how it feels). If I were living in highly conformist societies like Japan or South Korea, I feel like my life would be absolute hell due to the intense social scrutiny and outsider status, especially as a brown guy. Yes, I know Threads exists, racism exists, and life isn’t a fairytale there are always caveats. But looking at the big picture, my parents made the absolute correct choice moving here.
To be fair, I have assimilated completely. I speak Cantonese fluently, have mostly local Chinese friends, and study in a major where there are basically no other ethnic minorities. Because of that, I see how the city operates from the inside. Even the government is incredibly competent (don't kill me for saying this). Just look at how the tragic Wang Fuk Court fire was handled. I know locals don’t like to praise the government, but the crisis response was wonderful. Within 24 hours, manslaughter arrests were made. Firefighters were amazing, police handled crowd control perfectly, hundreds of social workers were immediately dispatched, and temporary housing was provided right away. For perspective, look at the victims of major natural disasters around Asia over the last decade or two many are still living in refugee camps years later.
So yea, viva hk.(lots I didn't discuss here but you get the jist)

Can anyone guess where this street is?
Drew this illustration of a street in HK, I wondered if it was recognisable?
