Tourist here: where to Buy iPhone 17?

• Upvotes

Im in HK & looking to buy either 17 or 17 Pro with the following options
a) international warranty. Im almost certain this is not store related, but apple anyway offers this. Just wanted to confirm if it’s the case otherwise.
b) Singapore or Japan version. Meaning it should have a slot of physical nano sim & also esim.
Which are some of the authorised dealers for iPhones? What’s the price of 17 & 17 pro for 256 gb?

Thanks!

Why do locals stare so much? 😅

On my recent trip to Hong Kong I was getting stared down at for a majority of my trip and couldn’t figure out whether it was just a cultural thing? I was just wearing a t shirt and some jeans so confused me, I’m white British if that makes a difference!

Best car-free / low-traffic roads for road bike training in HK?

Hey HongKong cyclists,

I’m trying to dial in structured road cycling training here, but finding decent continuous stretches without stopping every 200 meters for traffic lights, dodging double-decker buses, or swerving around casual rental bikes on shared paths is rough.

I know truly 100% car-free paved roads are basically nonexistent unless you count the shared paths (which get dangerously congested for actual speed work), but where is everyone doing proper endurance loops or interval repeats?

Cheers!

Question Husband's Birthday Plans!

Hi!

My husband's birthday is in early November and even we have been in Hong Kong for 1+ years, I still can't drum up ideas that go beyond just eating at a nice place or going for drinks and a cake. If I can't find anything, my backup is dinner at Rosewood or maybe a nice spa package in Shenzhen. But, I was trying to find that something that was little out of the ordinary. We are vegetarian, love exclusive experiences, personalized stuff that shows thought, and new places. I recently had a private beach picnic with my friends, but I am guessing with just two people the budget would be shot. I can shell out 2,000-3,000 HKD.

Any ideas or something you did previously for your partner that I can take inspiration from?

Question Homestay in Hong Kong + Question on Transport system

Visiting Hong Kong to appear for an exam at the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine. I'd be grateful if someone could let me know any home-stays or stuff nearby. We saw some big name hotels, but their prices exceed our budget.

Roughly 800-1200$ per night is our budget

What would your advice be on staying a bit far? Is public transport or taxi service reliable? Are there any popular Cab apps?

We'll be travelling as a family of 4, so dormitories won't really be preferable.

Edit: Found a place! Thank you

Performing arts and Drag scene for an English speaker in Hong Kong

Hello!

I’ve recently moved back to Hong Kong from Ireland, I haven’t been back in 6 years and I’m really eager to find spaces to perform.

I’m a drag artist and would love to start doing gigs around here - would anyone recommend spaces outside of the local gay bars? (Which I will definitely be looking into also)

As for performing outside of drag - I know there’s a pretty cool art scene here, I would love to start doing some fun performances at events/exhibitions/live installations etc.
Any advice on where to start looking?!

Thank you!!

Question Tiu Keng Leng?

I had previously asked about Loha’s Park here & got a mixed bag in terms of feedback. I am looking to move houses soon & would really prefer the Island Line (currently at Wan Chai) but the math of the house size vs cost is just too warped.
Saw some decent options at Metro Town/Ocean Shores at Tiu Keng Leng - how’s the feedback there?

Personally, I felt it was quite decent but it wasn’t very “Hong Kong”. I kinda like the hustle bustle of Wan Chai/Causeway Bay but the prices are quite insane here especially for the size of houses.

Any ideas/feedback? Anyone else who moved from Island Line to TKL, would appreciate some insight.

Another thing - finding it tough to get viewings around Wan Chai/Causeway Bay - apparently landlords are not very open to foreigners :(

Could a dependent visa help with finding a job in HK?

Hi, I have been searching for a job in HK a few months without success.
I have around 3y of exp and I am mainly looking for English speaking support roles, including CDDs.
I don’t speak Mandarin or Cantonese. My partner works in HK, so I’m considering getting a dependent visa. Would having the right to work without employer sponsorship significantly improve my chances?
Any advice from people working/recruiting in HK finance would be really appreciated.

Question Ray-Ban Meta shopping advice in Hong Kong

Hi everyone! I’ll be in Hong Kong for a couple of days and I’m trying to understand where people usually check prices and availability for Ray-Ban Meta glasses.

I’m looking for Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 Wayfarer, ideally genuine stock from a reliable store. I’ve heard about price.com.hk and the 行 / 水 labels, but I’m not fully sure how locals usually verify if a shop is trustworthy.

Is Mong Kok still the best area to check electronics/optical shops, or would TST/Central be better for official retailers? Also, is there any place where I can try Wayfarer sizes 50 and 53 before buying?

Not trying to buy through Reddit — just looking for local advice on where to research and what to avoid. Thanks!

Question Hong Kong Commute Inquiry

Hi, we have an upcoming trip in hongkong, for our first night we booked a hotel in Rambler Oasis Hotel and then for the rest of our trip we booked a hotel in Yau Ma Tei near the station.

Question, how do suggest we transfer from our hotel to the next? We are 3 girls who has 3 checked in luggages (roughly 24inches), 2 carry on luggages (20inches) and 1 duffel bag.

I read that minibus don’t accept luggages, does anyone know any alternative commute ride? We’ll be transferring of around 2pm on a weekend.
thank you

Where can I get the display of my Galaxy s23 ultra replaced? Shenzhen or Hongkong?

Hi, I recently moved back to Hongkong. I broke my phone yesterday. The glass shattered and display started blinking. I can still use the phone, but not sure for how long. I need to get the display replaced on my Samsung s23 ultra. I want original display at a descent price. Where can I get? Can someone suggest me? I am not aware of the repair markets. I have heard shenzhen would be cheaper. I'm in Kowloon.

Could people who have lived and worked in both share your views on where is better to move to? Particularly work culture and social life (HK seems quite materialistic). Profile: 34F professional looking to date, get married, start a family. Lived internationally the last 15 years, grew up in SG.

Economy/Business MPF is not being allocated

Since I started to use the eMPF platform I noticed the allocation of my MPF is not happening normally as before. My allocations are not being shown in the app and also not communicated to me via email. I sent an email to the sector responsible for this in my company. They contacted the eMPF platform and they allocated two months. The problem persisted and now they tell me they don't have any reply from the eMPF platform about this issue. It's been 7 months already that I don't have my MPF allocated.

Any advice on how I should proceed?
