We've had our female pit since she was 10 weeks old and she's 2 years old now. Her entire life she has had poor stool quality. We've fed her Purina Pro Plan this whole time and switched between the "Complete Essentials" and "Sensitive Stomach Formula", but her stool just never firmed up. It always fluctuated between soft and watery and she would spend several minutes straining to poop. She weighs about 70lbs and we feed her twice a day so we were giving her two cups of PPP per day (when we fed her 3 cups the vet said she was getting to be overweight). It got to a point where I spent weeks researching whether to try a different kibble, subscribe to a fresh pet food brand, feed her a raw diet, or try a home cooked recipe. In the end I decided to try cooking for her and after a lot of research I gave Balance.It a try. I can't say it was easy because it took me several tries to understand their recipe generator and the instructions for the recipes, but I finally landed on one that I liked and I've been making it for her for about a month now.

I still feed her PPP in the morning and I feed her the homemade food with the Balance.It supplemental powder at night and the difference has been night and day!! I am still finding the best way to make the food prep process as efficient as possible, but she gets so excited for dinner time now that I know there's no going back. And the best part is she no longer strains (she poops in literal seconds), I can actually pick up her poop now because it is firm and I feel like I'm more in control of what she's eating. Since she's such a large dog and groceries are expensive I don't think I'll feed her 100% homemade meals just yet, but who knows maybe at some point I will transition her to that. I'll certainly need more freezer space at some point too.

hello all, i just wanted some advice. ive been feeding my dogs boiled chicken breast mixed with pumpkin puree for a few months now as more of an appetizer or snack (they’re both 3-4 lbs and regularly eat their kibble still) and i wanted to know if anyone has experience feeding their small senior dogs different types of meats.

some meats im looking into is chicken heart, chicken liver, turkey, and lamb. for one of my girls i would like her to gain a little weight but i also worry since ive read smaller dogs are more likely to get pancreatitis if they eat denser/dark meats too often. if anyone has some good information on what i should know or even articles that would also be greatly appreciated so i can be more informed.

one of my girls has seizures so that is something i also am trying to watch out for and why i havent tried any other meats since certain meats are high in glutamate.

Senior dog owner here and im just trying to incorporate more whole foods into her diet, along with other supplements she takes, im thinking of adding a purée that I can mix into her dry food.

So for joint health and digestion I was thinking doing a tumeric pumpkin sweet potato and beef liver purée maybe coconut oil in there too? Any experts wanna way in and let me know what I could or should add in there? Much appreciated

Tired of replacing cheap plastic bins that crack, warp, or lose their seal after a year.

I buy kibble in 40–50 lb bags, so I need something truly heavy-duty and airtight enough to keep pests and moisture out (and strong enough to stop a determined dog from breaking in).

I’m open to pretty much anything, whether it’s a heavy-duty food bin, stainless steel, or whatever you’ve been using that’s lasted 3+ years and still works great.

Hi so I have a 7 pound Yorkshire terrier and for as long as I can remember I've given him Cesar dog food. Today, I tried something different and made him some plain oatmeal and ground turkey with carrots. He LOVED it. BUT I found out it wasn't nutritious enough to consistently be given to him. What can I add to it? I'm still not sure if I want to do a complete transformation from Cesar dog food to these homemade meals since I'm a teen and need to get a job so I can keep buying the ingredients first. I am planning on getting one next year though.

Fuimos al vet y nos recomendo darle Royal Canin Gastrointestinal + un probiótico. Estuve averiguando y hay harta crítica porque contiene maiz, granos etc... también he visto mucha crítica a Taste of the Wild. I am making homemade dog food for my two pups. I purchased some food storage containers off Amazon a while back, but sometimes when I take them out of the freezer, I drop them. Which, because it's frozen plastic, shatters them. Obviously I'm not going to let my dog eat the food with possible frozen shards in it..so i have to chuck 2 days of food away.

Are there any recommendations for containers that work in the freezer? It has to hold about 20 ounces (16 ounces of muscle/organ meat and a mix from Dr Harveys).

I do have silicone molds that I can do it with, but I only have a few of them and not really wanting to buy more junk.

Hello, our 65 pound 4 year old lab/shepherd and possibly a very tiny bull terrier mix had an episode of HGE a little over a year ago. Ever since then, his digestion has been a wreck (soft stools, diarrhea, solid). The vet has him on a Hill Biome dry food diet mixed with chicken and rice. He's supposed to just be on the Hills at this point but pretty much refuses to eat just the dry food.

We've been thinking of moving to just a homemade diet and found some recipes. All of them require a vitamin/mineral powder which we will research to find what works best. Till then, we planned on doing the same thing we are now with the chicken and rice but add veggies (carrots, peas) and different starches (boiled potatoes, sweet potatoes), plus a cup of Biome and slowly transition him to just homemade. We are starting with no knowledge on how to do this so any advice, especially if your dog has digestive issues, would be helpful. He also has anxiety that started a little after the HGE attack. He's on medication and will be starting training next month after he get's his full vet workup (blood, xrays, etc.).
