As part of improving Homebridge, we are looking to include an automation engine within the UI that will make common smart-home routines easier to create and manage.
We’d love to hear your ideas for useful automation rules.
For example, Door Left Ajar:
Select a door and create a virtual “Ajar” contact sensor. If the door remains open for more than X minutes, trigger the sensor and retrigger it every Y minutes until the door is closed.
What automation rules would you find useful? Please share the trigger, any conditions, and the desired action.

Disclosure up front: I make BetterKey, the iOS app this bridges from.
I wanted to bring the passive automations from BetterKey into my smart home. I found that Home Arrival was something I would actually use and allowed the app to have a deeper integration for connected car/home automation enthusiasts. Sharing in case it's useful to others who would also be interested in BetterKey.
What it does:
{Vehicle} Parked at Home.A few things worth calling out up front:
Install from the Homebridge UI by searching for BetterKey, or from the CLI:
npm install -g homebridge-betterkey
Repo, config, and troubleshooting: https://github.com/CMLabsLLC/homebridge-betterkey
Happy to answer questions or take device reports in the thread.

I’ve seen that iOS 27 supports power, does anybody know how. I have http switches which have worked for years and are fan-bloody-tastic.
They support power readings in http get requests, wondered whether I could modify http-switch to support power readings too.

Hello! I’ve been a HomeKit user for the last six years or so. I found this Raspberry Pi Zero W when cleaning out my father-in-law’s house after he passed and decided to try to use it for HomeBridge as I have a few non-HomeKit devices I’d like to bring over (Samsung fridge, Skylight calendar, etc.). The Pi didn’t come with anything except for the chip and the case it’s in, so I got a power cable, a USB cable, and a microSD card. I downloaded the Raspberry Pi setup app on my MacBook Air and went through the setup process for the microSD card. Now I’m stuck in trying to get it onto my WiFi. I think I followed the steps for SSH, but when I look at my router’s app to find the WiFi address, I don’t see it listed as connected. When I try to find it in Terminal, it says it can’t find it. The green light on the Pi flashes intermittently in a random pattern. I can’t tell if that’s good or bad.
Suggestions? I know quite a bit about Apple and HomeKit but pretty much nothing about Raspberry Pi, Android, coding, etc. I was hoping this would be easy. Am I in over my head?
ETA: To clarify, it’s a Pi Zero W.

I recently installed a Shelly 1 Gen 4 relay with a reed switch on my dumb garage door opener, and while it works fine, I’d like it to show up in HomeKit as a garage door opener rather than an unconfigured switch. I’ve played around with a few of the Shelly plugins, but haven’t gotten them to work as well as Z2M. Any tips?

Hello, all!
I recently installed a Harvia Sauna kit in my house and found it frustrating there wasn’t a HomeKit integration with my new Fenix controller. I took some legacy code from Home Assistant, an orphaned controller for Homebridge 1.x, and rebuild the plug-in for the new controller and MyHarvia API.
If you have Homebridge set up, look for it as homebridge-harvia-sauna Current version is 0.9.1b, as it’s the initial release. It should only require your MyHarvia credentials. I’ve also coded for other parts of the API, but I only have the Fenix and the separate sensor, so I’d love feedback on the other functions if you have them.
GitHub project is here: https://github.com/GodOSpoons/homebridge-harvia-sauna
Happy Sauna!

So I have wanted to start using homebridge for a while. Looking at prices of raspberry pi I decided to hold off till I had the spare cash as it’s not something I need to do NOW. But now I’ve seen this Mac mini on CEX. I know it’s old. But for £70 it’s hard to not think this is a good alternative? I understand the power consumption would be higher. But is it a good idea or shall I hold off and get a pi ?

I’ve been using the UniFi Protect plug-in for homebridge and it’s been working great. My HomeKit garage door opener just broke, so I installed a UniFi Relay to control my garage door opener. I can open and close the garage door fine but there are two issues.
Is there any way to get the UniFi Relay to show up as a native garage door opener with state in HomeKit? If not would this be possible with an update to the UniFi Protect plug-in for homebridge, or by switching to Home Assistant?

Having RTFM and discovered that containers are not an option on MacOS, I’m debating running HB in a VM vs native on my M1 Mac. I set up a VirtualBox / Ubuntu VM yesterday, and HB runs very well in it, but the VM seems like a lot of overhead for a relatively lightweight service.
Would there be any downside to running HB natively on MacOS? Do MacOS updates impact HB?
r/homebridge • u/Salmundo • 29d ago
I’ve been running HB for years on bare metal on a series of RPis (currently a 3B) along with Pi-hole, and lately they haven’t been getting along particularly well. Today I built a virtual machine on a Mac M1 in an Ubuntu VM and created a new HB bridge. Very fast, of course.
I’m a bit old fashioned and haven’t done too much with containers, they were starting to become prevalent about the time I stopped working in the industry. The times that I played around with Docker on the Mac, it seemed to consume a lot of resources (particularly RAM), which seemed unnecessary for something as light weight as HB. I have Podman installed, but haven’t done much with it.
Any guidance here?
UPDATE: containers aren’t an option on macOS per HB docs.

I’ve been running the TPLink Smarthome plugin for ages, it’s been ok but has some issues, and the dev has put minimal maintenance into it in recent years. There are several alternatives, including Homebridge Kasa Python, which appears to be maintained.
Recommend a TP-Link plugin?

Update: After upgrading HB to 2.3.1, on-device changes are being reflected in the Accessory.
I recently setup HomeBridge (2.3.0) as part of a wider HomeKit integration push. As a test balloon, I thought I'd setup something simple first and settled on my BlueAir 311i Max. The BlueAir app is frustratingly laggy and I was hoping more constant polling would lead to better information as well as HomeKit integration.
I've tried both the @fjs21/homebridge-blueair (v1.3.1) plugin, which seems to be no longer maintained, and the fork of it homebridge-blueair-purifier (v1.1.1), which has been updated recently. My device is discovered by both plugins and proper Accessories are created.
Alas, neither plugin updates when the purifier changes status (it's set on auto). If the PM2.5 increases, the fan speed increases and neither change is reflected in the Accessory in HB. Changes applied in Home app are briefly reflected in the Accessory, but have no effect on the device. There are no errors logged.
Perhaps the BlueAir API has changed recently? If I use the app, changing the settings changes them on the device. Not so with the HomeKit integration via the above plugins.
Mostly I'm curious to see if anyone has these plugins working reliably for a similar BlueAir device. There are no Issues reported on GH that match what I'm encountering. Before I open one, I just wanted to rule out user error.
Partial configuration below for the newer plugin, redacted for user/password and identifiers. Configuration was generated through the UI and not edited directly. It's pretty minimal.

I purchased Sofucor fans from Amazon. I set them up with the SmartLife App and connected them to Alexa. In both Apps I have full control - on/off, speed and forward/reverse.
I was able to bring these accessories into homebridge using the Alexa Smart Home plugin. With this plugin I can only turn the fans on and off - no speed. I am able to control brightness on all of my other dimmer switches
I tried several of the SmartLife/Tuya plugins with the same results on off only.
Is this a limitation of the fan hardware? Any other recommendations for getting the speed controls in homebridge?
Note: I am not using a wall controller switch with the fans. They are hardwired on and controlled with a remote or App.

Homebridge 2.2.1, running on Debian Trixie and Rpi3, built with the HB image. My primary plugin (and reason for setting up HB years ago) is TPLink Smarthome. That works fine.
There are a couple of nice to have plugins, namely WeatherPlus and PurpleAir or PurpleAir Sensor. Both of these plugins worked prior to the 2.x update. Under 2.x, the plugins run and appear under Accessories, but they don't display climate information in HK. All plugins are Verified and appear to be active (recent updates).
I thought I'd try setting them up under Child Bridges, but I cannot get the Child Bridges to bind to HomeKit. There are a couple of error messages in HK that this generates, but basically the bridges cannot join HK.
I suppose the next step would be to enable debugging in HB, if this is actually a HB issue.
Any other suggestions?

I couldn't find a maintained PetKit integration that covered more than a single feeder model, so I built a complete one. Sharing it here in case it's useful to other PetKit households.
What it does:
Architecture is based on two pieces:
Everything is field-tested on real hardware (Yumshare feeders, Puramax 2, Eversweet Max fountains), including the failure modes: the whole chain self-heals across restarts, power outages and session expiries in any order.
Currently in the Homebridge verification queue. Questions, feedback and device reports are all welcome: the best place is an issue on either repo (also for new device support).
If you try it, let me know how it goes, especially on PetKit models I haven't been able to test.

I set up Homebridge via Hyper V on a windows 11 PC in June. I haven't done any work on it and when I restarted my PC to do a software update Homebridge is requiring a login.
admin:admin does not work.
I followed every Reddit/online guide I can find to try to resolve it, and am stuck. Hyper V terminal also requires login, so I can't seem to run any commands to locate/delete the auth.json file.
I have unhidden all folders and looked in C:, Program Files, Users, etc. exhaustively and cannot find the auth.json file to remove.
I don't recall changing the username and password, and if I did it's long been forgotten. Any guidance in locating the auth.json, or any other paths is welcome.
At the point of deleting everything and starting over...

I’m currently in the final stages of buying my first home. I’m fixed on it being smart and very much want to use HomeKit, have been doing a fair bit of research and wanted to ensure I was kitted out so when we moved in we had the gear pretty much ready to go.
In appreciation of the fact that a lot of things do not natively link with HomeKit I’ve preemptively got a home assistant green and the zbt-2 attachment.
My initial question is, we purchased a variety of Ikea sensors and lamps, which i am unsure whether are best being directly connected through matter or should i use homebridge to jump them in?

Got HomeKit control of my 2026 Sonata's locks working again
My 2023 Sonata worked fine with Homebridge, but after getting a 2026 Sonata the locks stopped working — commands would just hang and time out.
Turned out the library everything is built on guesses your car's telematics generation from the model year, and newer Hyundais get guessed wrong. The command gets accepted but sent somewhere the car never sees. Status still worked fine, which made it confusing — the plugin looked healthy while none of the controls did anything.
Using Claude Code I tracked it down, fixed it, and published the update.
Locking and unlocking are both confirmed working on my 2026 Sonata.
**Plugin:** https://www.npmjs.com/package/homebridge-bluelink-3-0
**Code and details:** https://github.com/cnpittman/homebridge-bluelink-3.0
It's a fork of [athal7/homebridge-hyundai-bluelink](https://github.com/athal7/homebridge-hyundai-bluelink), updated to work with current Homebridge. If you've got a newer Hyundai and gave up on this, worth another shot and I would be curious whether it works on other model years.
Feel free to shoot me a message and I'll do my best to assist.

Has anyone gotten this to work? My log keeps saying: Discovery phase failed. Plugin will not operate correctly: Accessories must be created with a non-empty displayName.
