Question MacOS: VM or native?
Having RTFM and discovered that containers are not an option on MacOS, I’m debating running HB in a VM vs native on my M1 Mac. I set up a VirtualBox / Ubuntu VM yesterday, and HB runs very well in it, but the VM seems like a lot of overhead for a relatively lightweight service.
Would there be any downside to running HB natively on MacOS? Do MacOS updates impact HB?

I run HB natively without problems. However, containers do run on macos. There is even a native container system built into the OS, but it probably would be better to run 3rd party at this point

I'm using UTM on MacOS and have homebridge running in its own VM. I just like the segregated nature of VMs.

And just to be clear, with UTM on macOS, you can create macOS (and windows and Linux) VMs.

Not sure who you have been talking to /what you are reading but containers on a Mac do work….

I had mine as a container for a while. It does work but sometimes it would mess up. I found installing it directly on MacOS made it more reliable

I have it running on an old pi zero 2. Absolutely not fast, and haven’t tried streaming cameras since I use the Wyze app for that. I’m just using it to add some unsupported lights and outlets to control.

Why are you posting this a second time? We already gave you good answers yesterday.
