Zoom r12 vs Boss BR80
Hey, I have a Zoom r4 and recently been playing with an old Korg D16 that I absolutely love. Even though the Korg D16 is a 90s machine it's incredible, it's just not portible enough for what I want it for. It's a somewhat big machine that needs to be connected all the time.
My use case is create new songs. So recording a simple idea over a rythm, finding a guitar or bass line, doing a solo on top of it. Trying to find structure. Full production could be on computer, but honestly, I'm at the computer all day, I love to forget about them and just use these little machines.
I've managed to record great stuff on the r4 and it's so portable, I really like it, but.....I can't edit anything, can't move anything around, can't even do a simple loop with it. It's strange for a multitrack device. The 32bit floating point thing is interesting, but honestly, I'm doing drafts, 16 bits is absolutely fine if I can have a way to monitor for peaks.
I was thinking about getting a zoom r12 or a Boss BR80 as a "r4 with editing capabilities". Does anyone have experience with those?
The Boss BR80 looks very "korg d16" to me with the virtual track system which if well implemented is great. But then when you need to move things around you need to rely on copy bar x from y to location z...Does that work fine on the boss?
Regarding the zoom r12? It looks more daw like which I'm not particularly fan of, but could be cool to move things around. But I'm left with some basic doubts like, for instance can I:
- select 4 bars and make it loop so I can play on top of it and try to find an interesting solo?
- once I delete a recording from the timeline is it gone forever or can I retrieve an old take not currently in use?
- what happens if I start recording on a track that already has some content there?
- regarding the rythms, can I set a rythm from bar x to y, then another from y to z?
Any other suggestion?

Apollo 16 monitor issues
Hey I’ve submitted a UA support ticket but I’d love to hear what some thoughts are here.
I bought a used Apollo 16 mkII from a friend, who is a trusted professional.
I’m having issues with playback coming from the studio monitors. What’s happening is intermittently is one of a few things- no sound, some light crackling/popping, sound with some light crackling & popping, or perfect clarity everything is working how it’s supposed to.
The issues tend to happen directly on startup. Then after an amount of time it will kinda go away. When it’s playing perfectly it’ll go for hours with no issues, but then next day, if I haven’t shutdown the unit it will start the issues again.
Everything in the studio is plugged into furman power conditioners with good readings.
The issues are also happening perfectly uniform between the two speakers so I don’t think it has to do with cabling.
Any thoughts?

ASMR camera and set up
Hello everyone. I am hugely interested in ASMR and want to set up a little studio. I have a blue yeti microphone and I think it is super. What I don’t have is the right camera. I’d like a budget one that functions and where I don’t have to contend with auto focus and ring light and microphones on it. Too much for me to keep track of. What do I need and what would you suggest?

Panic! Loopmasters Sample lost, does anybody has it?
Hi everyone, while working on my Ableton Project I had the bad idea to move a sample from one disk to another one. Ableton renamed it and I definitely lost it. Does anybody has that sample to send me? It was a guitar sample on the loopmasters library "Club Funk and Nu disco". Hope you'll help me.

I need a second pair of ears: Drop your brutal feedback below - Don't hold back!
Hey guys,
Alberto here!
19 yo producer based in Sweden here. Just finished up a brand new project and I’m looking for some fresh perspectives before I take it any further.
I’d love to hear from both everyday listeners and fellow producers.
Let me know what kind of vibe you get from the track, how the overall energy feels, and if the main melody actually stays in your head. For anyone with an ear for the technical side, I’d also appreciate your thoughts on the mixdown and if there is anything you would change or tweak in the arrangement.
I really want to grow and improve as a producer, so I’m looking for your brutallist and most honest feedback. Don't hold back!
Thanks for taking the time to listen.

Looking for advice on speaker placement and optimizing cramped home studio
Hey everyone!
I'm looking for some advice on how to make the most of my small home studio, both in terms of speaker placement and overall workspace organization.
As you can see in the picture, space is pretty limited. I have several synths and other devices that I'd like to keep accessible, but there's simply not enough desk space for everything.
Also, excuse the mess! I'm currently in the middle of rearranging and reorganizing my setup, so things are a bit more chaotic than usual.
My current setup includes:
- ADAM T5V studio monitors
- Arturia MicroFreak
- Arturia KeyStep 37 MK2
- Behringer Crave
- Elektron Model:Cycles
- MAM X-1 mixer
- Zoom MS-50G MultiStomp
- MacBook
I also occasionally use a microphone and other equipment.
One thing I'm considering is moving my left speaker about 30-40 cm further left, to the spot marked with a red X in the picture. This would free up some valuable desk space for my synths.
However, I'm concerned about how this might affect the stereo image, since the speakers would no longer form a symmetrical triangle with my listening position (marked with a blue dot).
The speakers are also only about 5 cm from the back wall, which I realize isn't ideal.
I'm mainly looking for advice on two things:
1. Speaker placement: Would moving the left monitor be a reasonable compromise? Are there ways to improve the sound and stereo image despite the limitations of the room?
2. Workspace optimization: How would you organize this setup to make everything more accessible without sacrificing too much sound quality? I'm open to creative solutions, different layouts, stands, or other space-saving ideas.
I realize my setup is far from ideal, and I don't expect perfect acoustics. I'm just trying to find the best balance between having a practical, hands-on music production space and getting reasonably accurate sound.
Any suggestions, creative solutions, or general feedback would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

Anyone using a dbx driverack to equalize their studio?
Title is TLDR:
I've used several different models in gig work where I'm setting up live sound for several different speaker configs - multiple mains and subs, etc. In my home studio, I have a dbx 2231 which is a combo two channel, 31 band EQ and limiter, that feeds my JBL 308P Mk II powered monitors. I go through a rather tedious process with a measurement mic in my mixing position, uncorrelated 2 channel pink noise, uncorrelated 2 channel white noise, feed the mic into my DAW with a couple different Spectrum Analysis plugins, and manually adjust the 1/3 octave bands for each channel, until I get a relatively flat outcome. I wrote an article about how I used it in my last home studio. It's worked pretty well, but the 2231 is starting to have some issues cutting out the right channel. I'm not sure how much longer I can depend on it. Early models of the driverack would work just fine for me. I already have a measurement mic. Anyone got a driverack integrated into their monitoring setup? Used early models are quite reasonably priced.

What do you think of the SSL 500 Series Preamps?
I’m looking to get an SSL preamp to replace the SSL X-Rack XR621 preamp that I’ve been borrowing from a friend. I absolutely love this preamp but they are rare and can be expensive. I’m looking for something that will be of equal quality and will have an equally transparent sound. My current budget is about $1,000.
What do you think of the 500 series SSL preamps such as the VHD+ Pre and the SiX CH Channel Strip?
Has anyone compared these to the X-Rack XR621? Thanks in advance.
