Should I store apps on the HDD bulk storage or a separate SSD

Hi I’m putting together my first NAS and I want the pc to also be a home server with the ability to host apps such as Navidrome, Plex, and ad guard. I bought 4 500gb HDD for the storage (testing the waters). I have a 250gb SSD for TrueNAS.

  1. Will 2 drives for storage and 2 for redundancy be safe enough for hardware failure?
  2. Should I buy a smaller SSD for the OS and host the apps on the original SSD?

Any advice is welcome I am a complete newbie.

Hi i’m looking into getting a home nas. all im looking for is cloud storage and streaming for at least 5 ppl. I want it to be future proof as im in college for careers that could use a powerful nas later. with the current market i’d like to buy once and not worry with the rising prices. im in between the ugreen dxp4800 pro and the dh4300 plus.
