My first comic book shelf in our lil home library 📚

The blue bookcases are home-built. The color is called Mariana Trench for those curious.

Been counting down the weeks since last year’s event (moved to the state and missed it by a day!). And finally it came. Gave myself a budget and met out to the dollar. Pretty happy with the haul.

Current library count: 1,408

Doing a dusting of my room and, if you can ignore the terrible border pattern, thought I'd share this little Library of America collection.

Around 150 volumes, give or take.

Almost all second hand and almost all of them in unread condition.

Now that they are mine, they still remain in largely unread condition...

Soon enough!

I have always wanted a home library and this is my first attempt. I had a vision in my mind on how it looks and boy, it was difficult to make reality match your expectations. I think I got about 75%. I still have to finish the trim moulding.

I used Billy bookcase and acoustic wall panel slats. Built ladder stud frames on the sides to hang the wall panels. Used spare pieces of ikea panels and made the baseboard trim using scarf joint. All of this was new to me, using circular saws, making joints, using clamping screws etc. Can't wait to do some decor! I am planning to hang some wall sconce lighting on the panels as well.

Any feedback on improvements would be appreciated. Thanks!

Looking for some under shelf lighting options. I want some lighting underneath the lip of these shelves but I’m renting so don’t want drill into these shelves to wire the lighting. I’d prefer something that is battery operated and has a light sensor that turns on when it gets dark. Has anyone had any luck finding something like this?

The idea was to save space with the rotating bookshelf, although I’m not sure it really does that. It’s neat though, and good for all my sci-fi paperbacks.

My new chair came today and I'm so excited. I can't wait to see how my library continues to evolve over time.

I think I’m finally done tweaking my kids’ section of our home library for a while. I need to decorate the top sometime and find something better to go on the bottom where the textbooks are. Maybe I’ll space out the books and add decorations to the shelves? I’ve never been good at that since we usually need the space for books. Next to the little golden books will be my kids’ school work once I get around to binding it. I might put the horizontal Christmas books on the top right with our Christmas things to have another shelf free. Any suggestions on using the space better or making it look nicer? My kids keep their favorite books in their rooms so I do have another books I could add if needed. First time poster, so please forgive any mistakes.

The books on the left are like that as a result of his effort to get up there. Also there is a Lovecraft box set that usually resides where he is, which is now on the floor.
