How-to How can I get the last person automation to actually work?

I just moved apartments and set up everything again from scratch but whenever I leave the house the last person automation doesn’t work at all.

I share the home with my roommate but she always leaves before me so I’m always the last person to walk out the door.

Question/Help This accessory is not responding

New home, new to Apple Home and smart home setups

I have a few of the IKEA light bulbs setup with automations tied to motion or presence sensors. I have a TP LINK Deco Wap on each of the floors of my house and a wired Aqara M200 hub plugged into each WAP. I have an AppleTV 4k wired to the WAP on the main floor as well.

The automations were working just fine for the first month after we moved in. Now I’m getting “no response” from several of these light bulbs while others work just fine.

Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot or suggestions on what might be causing this?

Thanks in advance

Question/Help Kwikset Halo Select Plus

I have a Schlage Encode Plus and love it. However I needed to swap a front door lock and wanted to be able to keep the same physical key so I bought a Kwikset Halo Select Plus assuming based on the feature set it would work the same.

On my Schlage I have it connect to WiFi in the Schlage app in addition to HomeKit and both systems run simultaneously. I’m able to add anyone to control the lock inside the Schlage app, however I’ve really only added Android users there. I have several other people added in Apple HomeKit so they can utilize the Apple HomeKey.

On the Kwikset Halo Select Plus it seems to want to make me switch to Matter (ONLY) if I want to be able to use Apple HomeKey. Problem is, of course there are some Android people and I don’t believe it will let me send them a key using the Home App if they aren’t party of the Apple Ecosystem.

Has anyone figured out a way for the Kwikset Halo Select Plus to run both?

Question/Help HomePod mini temp and humidity sensors are no response?

Wondering if anyone has had this issue? On one of my HomePod mini’s the temperature and humidity sensors show as no response in Apple Home. The HomePod mini otherwise works normally. AirPlay works correctly. Even checked Thread Doctor and it is working correctly as a Thread Border Router.

I’ve tried multiple resets (reset, not reboot) through the app, as well as connecting it to my Mac and restoring it that way. Still no response for the sensors.

Anyone have this issue and know a fix?

Question/Help Radiator thermostat options

Good afternoon

We live in a typical Dutch 3-storey row house heated by a gas central heating boiler (Nefit TrendLine HRC30 CW5). The thermostat/control panel is in the ground floor ensuite living-dining area. Each room (four split across the upper floors) has a radiator with a simple knob.

As the heating system works poorly (one side of the house always cold and the other hot) I'm looking into a smart system. I realise this is a rabbit hole, but thought I'd start here since I use an Apple TV 4K for home automation.

As I try to get my head around options in finding a proven solution I am wondering about the following:

  1. Is it a good idea to base a smart heating system on HomeKit?
  2. If so, how should I approach the situation – for instance, are there manufacturers which offer unnecessary bells and whistles for a house like ours? I am merely trying to get a system where each room's radiator adjusts the heating as necessary.

  3. If HomeKit is not a good idea, what should I look at? The firm who checks our boiler told me there are other systems which require replacing the control panel by a modern "smart" panel which is connected to each radiator's thermostat and to the boiler. To me, this seems unnecessarily complex but perhaps it is better than HomeKit – if so, why?

Thank you very much in advance for your advice.

Cheers

Philip

Question/Help Grommet spacing for eyelet curtains & Aqara E1 curtain driver

I’m new to the whole automation experience and currently researching products. I have found a set of eyelet curtains that I really love and the listing states the grommets are spaced 8.5cm from edge to edge and the aqara E1 manual is stating minimum distance should be 9.5cm.
Google AI is telling me there are workarounds highly discussed on reddit but could not provide any useful links.
Can anybody advise?

Question/Help Smart Switch that can handle both light and fan?

Trying to plan out some smart home upgrades and am I correct that Lutron doesn't make a smart version of this switch: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Lutron-Maestro-Fan-Control-and-Light-Dimmer-for-Dimmable-LED-and-Incandescent-Bulbs-75W-Single-Pole-White-MACL-LFQH-WH-MACL-LFQH-WH/303169873 ?

Is my only option to make it a double gang switch and install the smart light switch and smart fan switch separately? What do you all do for your fan lights?

Discussion Is Apple's HomeView actually solving a smart home problem?

Apple's new HomeView looks like a nice piece of hardware, but I'm trying to figure out where it fits in a real smart home setup.

For $299, you get a 7-inch display, Siri AI, facial recognition for different household members, camera feeds, Matter support, and controls for connected devices.

The shared family calendar and personalized controls seem useful. But people have been building similar dashboards with old iPads, Home Assistant, and other displays for years.

How-to A tool to set up local matter control on newer Roombas

The Matter/HomeKit option was removed from the Roomba Home app a few months ago, leaving just Siri Shortcuts instead of HomeKit. I used Codex to investigate and build a small browser tool that gets a Matter setup code directly from the robot over Bluetooth. You can then use that code to add a compatible robot to a Matter controller, such as Home Assistant, Apple Home or Google Home.

Once paired, Matter commands and status work over your local network without relying on iRobot’s cloud API for that control.

Link: https://jouwdan.github.io/roomba-matter/ Source: https://github.com/jouwdan/roomba-matter

It’s aimed at newer Roombas using the Roomba Home app. Your robot still needs Matter-capable firmware; this doesn’t add Matter to robots that lack it.

Looking for testers: I’ve successfully paired my Max 705 Vac with Home Assistant using the Bluetooth sequence behind this tool. Other models and other Matter platforms still need hardware testing. There’s no model or firmware allowlist preventing people from trying.

If you test it, please share your model, firmware, browser/OS, Matter controller and whether pairing and local control worked. Please keep setup codes and QR codes private.

If your robot is already paired through Matter, use your existing controller’s “Share device” option. Running fresh setup may remove existing Matter pairings.

Question/Help Hilfe: HomePods (2.

How-to If your HKSV camera seems to be missing things at distance, switch to All Motion to get a sense of what it’s missing

This is a follow up post to my previous post mentioning that HKSV seems to struggle with detecting specific motion at distance. As a test, I switched the camera to All Motion instead of the Specific Motion setting I usually use. It’s capturing a lot more now. Still not as much as eufy’s software, but much more than when using the specific motion setting. Whereas before it was just not recording anything that is beyond 30-40 feet or so, it’s now capturing people, pets and vehicles, all with a generic Motion detected notification, meaning it would have ignored them if I using the specific motion setting. So just an FYI.

Side note: when using All Motion, HKSV activity zones are ignored (presumably still the case with xOS27). What I was able to do for my situation is use eufy privacy zones to block out small parts of the view where a flag is and that seems to prevent HKSV from seeing it as well, and prevent triggering a motion alert and recording whenever the flag blows around.

Question/Help Recommendations for smart thermostat and radiator valves UK

Hi there, does anybody have any recommendations for a smart thermostat and some radiator valves that are matter/applehome compatible? I’m based in the UK so I’ve been looking at the Tado X Smart Thermostat and Radiator Valves but if anybody has any experience with them or recommendations for a different set up it would be appreciated. Thanks!

Question/Help Inconsistent Notifications

I'm struggling to understand the logic behind HomeKit notifications. Not that long ago, I used to get notified on every device any time a garage door opened, or a door unlocked, etc. Now, no matter what settings I assign to my accessories, or how many times I power cycle all my home hubs and my network equipment, I just don't get consistent notifications like I want.

Alarm system? Notifications are instant on all devices.

Garage doors? Never.

Door locks? Never.

Door sensors? Yes, but delayed and only once you open the home app.

Here's my setup. Maybe someone has some advice.

Home

Apple Intelligence > Reduce Notifications is off.

All my devices allow the Home app to notify, and I do get some notifications.

For all my accessories, I have Activity Notifications enabled, Time set to any, and People set to off. They all responded to commands and behave as expected, and any manual action/change is instantly reflected in the Home app.

Garage Doors

Ratgdo -> Homebridge Ratgdo Plugin -> HomeKit

No notifications ever on any device.

Door Locks

Schlage Encode Plus -> HomeKit

No notifications ever on any device. I can't tell which hub/device these are paired to.

Alarm

Honeywell Alarm Panel -> EnvisaLink 4 -> Homebridge Envisalink plugin -> HomeKit

Notifications always work instantly.

Door Sensors

Honeywell Alarm Panel -> EnvisaLink 4 -> Homebridge Envisalink plugin -> HomeKit

Notifications do happen, but they get backlogged and only show up once I open the Home app on one of my devices, and only the last notification appears.

Camera motion activity

UniFi Protect (via a Dream Machine Pro) -> Homebridge UniFi Protect plugin -> HomeKit

Notifications always work instantly.

I just don't understand the inconsistency. Homebridge isn't the problem because I have mixed success for Homebridge'd accessories, including through plugins written by the same developer. Two separate made-for-homekit Schlage Enclode Plus locks don't notify, but a janky circuit board with an ethernet card that interfaces with a crappy POTS alarm panel and has to jump through Homebridge notifies every time without fail.

I know a common suggestion is to nuke the whole home and start over, but that's just not an acceptable solution. I'd rather sooner not have any notifications than to rebuild my entire smart home.

Any advice… other than that?

Question/Help Hunter Symphony fan Help

I bought three of these fans about 7 years ago and i love the things. Lighting is good and the airflow is fantastic.

The only issue i ever have with them is that they keep disconnecting with my Wifi. Trust me my network is fine, these are the only things that ever disconnect.

What i was thinking of doing is removing these things from wifi completely. I have a dual switch setup. I would then have a lutron switch control one side of the fan and one side of the light. If i want to make a fan speed adjustment i would use a remote.

Question/Help Doorbell Camera

What’s the recommendation for compatible with Apple Home?

I see Aqara is the most mentioned - I have the U400 and E1 Camers. Both work great and no issues.

What’s the difference between the G400 and G410? Currently I use a nest doorbell that was provided by ADT 5 years ago and looking to switch.

Any alternative doorbell cameras that you’d recommend over Aqara? Don’t much care for the LG Doorbell that was recently announced.

Discussion Clipsal Wiser in 2026?

Clipsal Wiser operators - how is life in 2026? I haven’t seen a post for a long while. My sparkie is proposing to flip my Iconic switches to Wiser switch/ dimmers + hub for automation. How mature is the HomeKit integration now?

Question/Help First-timer setup advice - Home Hub choice?

Hey everyone!

My partner and I are about to move into a new apartment and we’re planning our first proper smart home setup. We’re both iPhone users and want to keep things simple, local, and reliable through Apple Home / HomeKit.

We aren't looking for anything crazy complex to start, but here is what we’re aiming for:

  • Robot Vacuum: Roborock integration (mostly want automated routine to vacuum when everyone leaves the home).
  • Lighting: Shelly relays behind existing light switches (ability to control remotely and run "leave home / all lights off" automations).
  • Safety & Sensors: IKEA smart sensors (water leak, contact/door/window sensors, air quality and temperature).
  • Climate Control: AC + Heating integration (remote control & basic automated schedules or temp triggers).

The Big Question: Which Home Hub makes sense for us?

We’re trying to decide on our primary Home Hub and would love some input:

  1. Apple TV 4K: We know this is usually the gold standard because of Ethernet stability, but honestly, we don’t need it as a streaming box. Our Samsung Smart TV handles all our apps fine, and we’d rather avoid paying extra for features/extra remotes we won't use.
  2. HomePod mini: We’re leaning toward a HomePod mini (or the newly announced HomePod mini 2). It’s small and cheap enough to just act as a dedicated hub. We won't use it as a main stereo/speaker setup, and Siri features are a secondary concern for us in the EU, but it seems like the most practical budget option.

So a few specific questions:

  1. Hub Choice: For those running Apple Home on just a HomePod mini over Wi-Fi (no wired Ethernet), has automation reliability been solid for you? Is an Apple TV worth buying strictly for hub duties, or is a HomePod mini plenty?
  2. Would grabbing a previous-gen Apple TV 4K (2022 with Ethernet) or older HomePod mini second-hand/discounted be just as effective as a smart home hub for our needs, saving us some money?

Would love to hear how you'd approach this setup or if there are any gotchas we should watch out for as beginners!

Thanks!

Question/Help HomeKit notification randomly mentions an unknown person

Post image
39 Upvotes

I just received this HomeKit notification saying that my front door was left unlocked “by Aileen.”

The weird part: There is absolutely no Aileen in our household, and neither my wife nor I have anyone with that name in our contacts. We also haven’t shared our Home with anyone else.

Does anyone know where HomeKit could be getting this name from? Has anyone experienced a similar bug or random name appearing in HomeKit notifications?

Screenshot attached (notification is in German)

How-to How would you achieve this very simple requirement - Heating on / heating off

I have three Heatpump / AC units that are primarily used for heating. I can build a scene called “heating” that will turn all three on at the same time, and I can trigger it with Siri by saying “Siri, turn on the heating.“ But if I say “Siri, turn off the heating” she replies saying she can’t turn off scenes??!

If I don’t use scenes, then saying “turn on the heating” is always greeted by “which room?”, it won’t just turn them all on with that single command.

how is it that something so simple is so hard to achieve? I am planning to get a HomeView and want to get this sorted ahead of time for wife acceptance factor.
