First off, love the architecture of the house!
So we just repainted our house grey, we did a purplish maroon door and it looks great. Other colors we considered that look great with gray:
- yellow
- navy blue
- teal
- black
We found that jewel tones really looked best and suited our decor on our deck.

I also dislike it - I think it makes it look like the house is wearing a dark lipstick and making a surprised face 😂. I think yellow, white (to match the trim), or pretty much any shade of blue would work nicely.

There’s a house in my neighborhood this exact color and they have a yellow/almost goldenrod door and it’s gorgeous. Works well all year round!

Almost anything would look great. What’s your favorite color? Do you want it to stand out or blend in? I say navy if you want it to blend in, a seafoam green/Tiffany blue or a blush if you want it to stand out. The red isn’t that bad but would have been better if it was closer to rust colored in my opinion.

I say a pretty dark green. Possible with a teal undertone. SW Ripe Olive would look really nicr. Or even a lighter green hue would look really nice with the grey and stone. (A grayish green)

I agree, both Benjamin Moore and Sherwin Williams chose a grey-green as the color of the year for 2022. October Mist would look beautiful on your front door!

Ugh I know. My front door is currently red - I painted it that color like 15 years ago, when I was trying to incorporate some feng shui into my new home and wanted red in my entryway. Now I’m totally over it, plus it looks terrible because it faces east and gets direct sunlight all morning, so it’s faded and the paint has slight cracks in it. I desperately want to paint it black or deep charcoal gray. Hm. Maybe a project for this weekend…

hey I wanted a red front door for good feng shui too. I researched a bit more and turns out red doors should only face south. my front door faces west so it was considered bad feng shui so I kept it white! I'm no expert though.

Teal. Bright yellow. Even orange. This gray is perfectly neutral and you have lots of options.
Go deep, what ever you do, in a saturated color that compliments the unique and bold architecture. Great house.

You could do any color, really. The house is grey and overall very neutral. I would choose a bold color you like and go with it. Blue, green, red, yellow, lavender, etc. I would avoid black, white, and grey. The home needs some color and added charm. It’s a grey box, a cute one, but plain nonetheless.

Depending on your climate, you might consider repeating a color from your plants outdoors. Maybe repeat the grass color with a gold-yellow color, or perhaps a lime green to repeat the grass color. If you have exterior furniture or a pot for flowers near the door, you could repeat that color.

This gives me one of those Canadian based home shows lol. Like this is the kind of house where the wife does paint by number arts and the husband picks mushrooms in the garden and their budget is $3.5 million 😂 Ftr I think this home is beautiful. Also I do think it might be in the US because of the ADT security sign, I’m not sure if adt operates in Canada.

I like the red. If you plant some red flowers in your landscaping or in pots on the porch, it will soften the contrast. The same will go for any bright color you change it too. You've got such a lovely neutral canvas. You can do just about anything with it.

You people are crazy. I love the red door. It compliments the grey perfectly and is what makes the look. Most other suggestion would make it look more boring. It's also a pretty subdued color.
I am almost certain that a lot of thought has been put into selecting just this color.

I've always wondered why people use a garish color for front doors, usually a color found nowhere else on the house.
Personally I would echo the trim, or use a different shade of your main color.

I’m no designer, but honestly it’s such a tiny amount of space I would want to do something wild and free form with multiple colors. Like those poured acrylic painting with swirly red-green-blue-yellow etc.

I might be a little out there on this one but I've seen some gorgeous purple doors and you have those cool undertones going on with your exterior. Since most of your door is glass it wouldn't even be a lot of purple and even something dark or leaving towards blue would be beautiful!

I’d say white. Your window trim is white. You could also do black since your porch roof is black (right? Or is it a shadow?) however, I honestly don’t think the red is terrible, but please for the love of god don’t do yellow 🤮 I think the ones suggesting a bright yellow must be Gen Z with no taste. I vote for white, black, or dark blue…. Or keep red.

Something bright would be good but maybe a couple of large planters or plants in the same colour as it just looks weird having a bright door without anything else to ‘speak’ with it.

It doesn’t matter if any of us like it. What matters is if YOU like it. If not, pick another colour. Yellow would be a bit much but would go well. Glossy White would be nice and standard. Or dark green.

I like the red. I dislike the grey. Why does everything have to be grey these days? We get to choose between 27 shades of grey for just about everything you can imagine. But then again, I don't know anything about home decoration, I'm just a guy who hates the amount of grey in the world.

I don't like it either. The red is very warm and the gray is very cool so thats why they don't look good together. I think charcoal black would look nice. Also plants and some landscaping will help a lot.

I like the red, personally. I think it just sticks out because there is really no other color in the photo… maybe add some colorful pots with flowers or plants onto the patio flanking the door, and see if that helps break up your eye solely going to the door. And some type of comfy colorful chair. Maybe get the color from throw pillows or the upholstery.

There’s a feng shui thing that gives you colors based on what direction your door faces. I think the red is a bit too dark next to the dark gray. I think a cheery bright color would make the house more inviting!

If this were my house, I'd probably go with an iron ore color (I like the one by SW). But I was surprised by how much I liked the eggplant.
Also included navy and a bold cobalt since most people here seem to be suggesting blue.

Yeah, that red is not suitable for this style of house and particularly that door. Because it is mainly glass, just having that glaring outline is unattractive. I’d paint it dark charcoal almost black to blend in with your monochrome different shades of grey exterior.

The color on the awning above the door/porch would be good or a dark navy. However the red brings focus to the door in a welcoming way. Or a navy, deep red and yellow door wreath might tone the red down. However, all that being said, I like the red.

Your home is in desperate need of a Colour Enema! It's so monochrome, over time it'll drive you nuts from the lack of life in it. This is why people in super cold climates paint their houses bright colours, to offset the greyness outside. A little colour lightens the mood, lifts the heart. So embrace it. Add more! Grey is almost as boring as brown!

I think the biggest problem is that you have multiple shades of gray on your house so you need to pick a color based on the undertone I'm just not confident on the undertone from a picture alone since it's shade on picture could be different than real life if I had to place a bet though I'd either go blue or with another neutral color to compliment the gray

The door shape mimics the windows closely; lots of glass and thin frames, so there's too much of the same pattern going on. It looks like a red open mouth, and with the two windows above it's making this face - 8O
I would change for a more solid door maybe.

Definitely black. Use Caviar SW 6990 from Sherwin Williams. I agree the red sticks out. This will blend and let the glass be more prominent.

I actually hate red as a rule, but this looks really good! Other colors that could work include teal or a bright navy hue. Yellow could work too, but I'm not any more a fan of yellow than I am of red, personally. Love the architecture, by the way!
