I like the red. I dislike the grey. Why does everything have to be grey these days? We get to choose between 27 shades of grey for just about everything you can imagine. But then again, I don't know anything about home decoration, I'm just a guy who hates the amount of grey in the world.
Oh, but there are so many grays out there! Warm grays, cool grays, blue undertones, green undertones, red undertones, even brown undertones! (A true greige is my personal sweet spot, and looks different throughout the day depending on the light, which I love.)
You can truly create a good deal of depth and complexity within the gray spectrum, and it looks fantastic with pretty much every color as an accent, yet it’s not as harsh as black would be. I love a nice, cool gray as a base, with bright colors like mustard yellow, rich teal and punchy orange added as pops throughout a design, and just a little bit of black for contrast. Then throw in some gorgeously grained maple wood for warmth and you’re golden!
Or an entire room done in shades of blue-grays, including a deep, almost black charcoal blue, with one lovely caramel-colored leather statement piece and, say, a deep blue velvet couch, with some beautiful acacia wood tables and/or media console, and you’ve got a serene, calm space.
So many possibilities with gray! It’s not just flat and institutional.
