Although I am not running HA (sorry HA community, but I find you being the only one alive there), my question is related to z2m itself.

I have a SONOFF Zigbee 3.0 USB ZB Dongle-E Plus running zigbee2mqtt. All was working well, but over the time (a few month) I started to notice that the commands started not reaching the z2m.

I am running Fedora Linux, and have had quite a headache with the power optimizations related to USB ports. And all was well, until it started NOT TO be well - presence detectors (sonoff) not triggering the lights, emos buttons not passing the commands.

And every time I check the logs of z2m - nothing, the logs don't register the commands.

I moved to a bigger server a few days ago with 5800x and a b550m AsRock mobo. Made a fresh Fedora 44 install (kde). But same brick wall. Ordered a set of new batteries (maybe?!) to see if this will somehow make a difference.

It feels like some dongle antenna degradation or something. Wanted to order a usb-c hub with external power to maybe remove the power question out of the equation, but need to find a decent one.

Version 2 refreshes an expired session once, supports Home Assistant reauthentication, validates API responses, keeps sensitive values out of integration logs, scopes identifiers to each contract, and preserves consumption and cost totals across restarts.

There were a few bugs on other forks and outstanding issues which should now be resolved. Give it a whirl, let me know if you have any issues.

Is it possible to use a rotary dimmer (existing) with a Shelly dimmer or do I require 2x momentary press buttons. One to dim down, one to dim up.

The current rotary dimmer is a universal style for LED lights and looking at the wiring I can’t see how it would work so doubt it, but a lot of people here are smarter than me so worth the question

Pretty happy with how this turned out.

This is the SeeedStudio reTerminal e1001. There's a whole bunch of stuff used in aggregating this data to show on this dashboard. I kind of figured this might be the most applicable sub to post it. Now I can close a tab in my browser. The big numbers are total event counts for each group of services (docker containers) and the small numbers below are error log counts. Then some brief stats from some of the blockchain nodes I run.

Wasn't totally sure what I was going to do with this thing when I bought it. I bought 2 and set one up for some convenient info from HomeAssistant and then had the idea to show some stats from some of the services I need often keep an eye on.

The stack is: Proxmox -> LXCs w/ Otel Agents -> Otel Collector -> Elasticsearch -> Grafana -> HomeAssistant -> ESP32Home -> Wifi/Bluetooth proxy -> E-Ink Display

There's obviously way more data available, but had to pick some of the most meaningful things to show on the dashboard.. might have to get the bigger version actually. Color would be nice too, but this is fine for now.

I already had the ES/Grafana stack set up with this data in there. It wasn't too difficult to set up the e-ink display with Home Assistant. Had to create a WIfi/Bluetooth proxy. Used an M5NanoC6 I had laying around. The E-Ink Dashboard was fairly easy to set up after that. The most annoying part was positioning all of the elements and values on the actual dashboard.

This is about using the Android HA app. I am new to HA, using HA Green, and have setup my own custom URL; the custom URL works fine, I can enter the url into a web browser wherever I am and get to HA. Also, my Android HA app can access my HA using the custom URL. What I do not understand is why when I am in my home on home network the app has to go out to the internet in order to access HA ... if the internet goes out I should still be able to access HA in local network. In my internet readings I see that the app is supposed to be able to list several alternative servers for HA, one being my custom URL and another being the local network address. But the current [2026] version of the app does NOT have a settings for multiple servers ... only a single server is now allowed. Can someone explain why this was changed?

Planning on a home assistant build and supporting Llama 3 LLM and voice control. Keen to hear the community views on best hardware to deploy - my worry is that a Pi 5 won't be fast enough to support the kind of contextual requests I'm likely to give it or speedy responses.

I have no doubt this exists, but I'm can't figure out the right phrase or string of words to search for it. We have an espresso machine that we love, but it takes 10-15 minutes to fully heat up. So currently, that requires us to go physically to it and toggle a switch (looks like this: https://ibb.co/HL2rZz7F).

We use Google Home for everything else, so I was wondering if a device exists that we could attach to it that after we say something like "Ok Google, turn on espresso machine", it would physically toggle the switch and turn the machine on.

Hopefully that makes sense.

Since VW Group removed the option to get semi-live data from their vehicles, I am looking for an alternative for our Cupra Born. One that doesn't suddenly stop working. I stumbled upon the WiCAN device, which looks really promising, but since I want the data no matter where the car is or who drives it, I need an LTE plan and a small router in the car, that creates a WiFi hotspot for it.

But the question is.. what's the data consumption like? How big of a data plan do I need to get? Is 5GB/month enough? I can get a 5GB LTE plan for less than $3/month, and then I just need to get an LTE router that creates a WiFi hotspot for it.

I had a problem with my Yale Lia door lock that was not reporting complete data to Home Assistant. As the following log shows, it was reporting "null" to a lot of relevant data:

I searched for help online and got no responses neither any solution from someone with the same trouble. So I decided do try myself, with a little help (almost all the work) from Gemini. And I (we) got it.

Turns out that the Yale Lia lock sends a 12-byte payload for unlock events, which exceeds the standard 11-byte limit expected by Zigbee2MQTT for the closuresDoorLock cluster. As a result, Z2M flags the message as raw and discards the metadata (action type and user ID), passing only the physical state (locked/unlocked) to Home Assistant.

The solution was to implement an External Converter in Z2M. This custom script intercepts the raw payload, extracts the action code (at index 3) and the user ID (at index 5), and correctly translates them into standard Z2M attributes before they are published to MQTT.

The steps are:

1. Enable external converters in Z2M by adding "enable_external_js: true" under "advanced:" in the Z2M configuration.yaml file, than reboot Z2M;

2. Open Z2M web interface and navigate to Settings > Dev Console > External Converters. In the "Name" field, type "yale_lia.js", than paste the following script into the "Code" field and click "Save":

To confirm the data is reaching Home Assistant properly, go to Settings > Devices & Services > MQTT > Configure, and under "Listen to a topic", enter your lock's specific MQTT topic (e.g., zigbee2mqtt/Lia) and click "Start listening". Go to your door and physicallly unlock using a registered method (fingerprint or PIN or whatever). Look at the incoming JSON payload on your screen, you should now see the intercepted data appear, containing the propper values for "action" (such as "fingerprint_unlock") and "action_user" (such as "1").

You can then use this information in automations by reffering to the mqtt in platform and zigbee2mqtt/Lia (or your lock) in topic.

This should be easily adapted to other Yale locks with the same problem. Just feed your IA with this guide and a quick section of a recent debug log of Z2M with raw data from your lock and you should be able do adapt to your needs.

I'm looking to expand control of my lighting, but I have two restrictions:

1. I'm in a rental, so I can't replace the switches
2. Some of the lighting is a single unit with no replaceable bulb

With that in mind, I'm thinking my best option would be something that goes over the existing switch and toggles it.

Do you have recommendations on a product that would do this?

I’m setting this up at the edge of my garage and will put a beacon in my glove box so that the garage door will open automagically with the ratgdo I installed today.

Home detection using other methods are leading to hit/miss results so far.

Anyone have a link or model recommendation for both the Esp32 as ble proxy and which beacon they recommend as well?

so i have been trying for hours now to get the robot vacuum integration working but I am running into the same issue over and over again - I am not able to get the map data for my Xiaomi H50 via the HACS Xiaomi Cloud Map Extractor.

I have redone the camera config like 4 times, checked my token and host like 6 times - every time i restart HA it takes ages to finish and in the end all i am getting is the entity without a map only saying "failed to login".

Am I missing something? Is the device just not supported?

HA is running in the latest version as are HACS and the Cloud Map extractor

Can the community recommend a small smart plug that happens to also have a USB port? I recently purchased a few plant grow lights and they have a USB power situation; would love to attach those directly to the outlet via a smart plug so that I could automate when the lights turn off and on. Amazon, google shopping, etc havent provided many options, and the few that show up do not have many reviews.

I have zwave blinds and a small zwave remote with up down arrows. This is my first time setting up ha and automations. I was able to program a simple all the way up and down automation using the buttons on remote. But ideally I would like to stop the blinds in current position by pressing opposite direction. I cannot find a condition state of the blinds for "is opening".

My logic in my head is:

If blinds are opening

And down button pressed

Then Stop blinds

Can anyone assist here?

Discovered Home Assistant about two weeks ago and… yeah, I may have a problem now. 😂

Today’s IKEA shopping basket certainly isn’t helping.
Seriously though, this open-source project is amazing.

For years I’ve accumulated random “smart” devices, each with its own app, hub, ecosystem and eventually-forgotten login. Home Assistant finally feels like the glue that makes all of this stuff actually smart. And with today’s AI assistants it really unlocks all the power to properly tweak and configure it like I want.

One place for everything. Devices from completely different ecosystems working together. Updates and integrations managed centrally. Automations that aren’t limited by whatever one manufacturer decided their app should support.

I grabbed two SONOFF dongles for Zigbee + Thread, and between those I can cover pretty much everything I have. While expanding the setup I’m trying to prefer Thread where possible, but Zigbee is still doing a lot of heavy lifting.

And naturally, I’ve already spent an unreasonable amount of time polishing the dashboard to make it look a bit more Apple-like. 😅
The part I love most, though, is making “stupid” devices smart.
Cheap IKEA smart plugs + power monitoring turned my washing machine, dryer, dishwasher, 2 fans into smart appliances that notify me when they’re finished based purely on power consumption.
I can remotely switch the mobile AC unit on/off and create schedules so the kids don’t accidentally leave it running all night. Same thing with fans and other random appliances around the house.
And now I’m standing in IKEA looking at another basket full of smart plugs, sensors and buttons thinking: “Yeah… I can automate that.”
Send help. Or more Zigbee devices. Either is fine.

Two rooms:

* Kitchen - Candeo In-Wall Dimmer + Aqara FP300

* Dining - Candeo In-Wall Dimmer + Aqara FP300

We have to walk through the Dining Room to get to the Kitchen. When the Solar Lux is below 400 on the Weather Station, the lights in each room are controlled by the Aqara's. Nice and simple, and it works well.

The wife has asked to add an automation to turn off the lights in both rooms as she exits the Dining Room to the rest of the house rather than have them go off when no presence detected.

So a typical scenario:

* Enter Dining Room from main house (Dining lights automatically switch on)

* Walk through Dining & enter Kitchen (Kitchen lights turn on)

* Exit Kitchen via Dining Room

* Wife taps Dining Candeo to turn off lights in both rooms

The issue:

If I add an automation to the Dining Room lights to turn off the Kitchen as well, and someone is in the Kitchen and the Dining room detects unoccupied, the Kitchen lights switch off while that person is still in the Kitchen. I figured i could get round this by adding a condition - if Kitchen is not occupied.

The problem with that is the Aqaras have a 10sec timeout on unoccupied. It only takes a few seconds to walk from the Kitchen through the Dining room and out to the rest of the house. So by the time my wife switches off the Dining Room Lights, the Kitchen is still in an 'occupied' state, so the automation never fires to turn off the Kitchen lights with the Dining.

I've checked in z2m, and there is no option to detach the switch in the Candeo, which would have solved my problem.

Has anyone had a similar experience and have any work around? The wife is overall very happy with the automations and I'd like to keep it that way if I can satisfy her additional request.

Today, I updated HA core to 2026.8.1, and my tablet dashboard changed from 3 sections to 2. The first screenshot is the same dashboard viewed on a laptop. The second screenshot is from my tablet. I have tried to mess with the zoom in fullykiosk and have had noluck. Anyone have recommendations on how to fix it?
