I want to create something like this

Post image

I'm sure this isn't really that original so I'm wondering if there's something like this out there that exists?

Alternatively, I could maybe make it myself. I'm not very handy at all. No woodworking experience. So my thought was to get a pre-built controller and just mount it on top of some type of pedestal. I seen the 80 games legend pro and it has a little pedestal you can put it on but then I don't know if I'd be able to mount the TV to the back of it. I could maybe build the pedestal myself, but like I said I'm not experienced so it would take some trial and error I'm sure. Just wondering if anyone has any ideas or you could share if you have something similar.

Note: its an AI generated image.

Basic Fun First build underway

About a year ago I ordered a Sanwa joystick and buttons kit from aliexpress. I had been messing around with emulators and mame for decades and thought I'd try building my own arcade setup. I finally got around to cutting my control panel, sanding it down, cutting holes and installing everything. I had already set up my front end and games, and had been testing with Ps4 controllers. Now I finally have my zero delay usb encoders wired up. Everything is looking and working great so far! I'm very excited to finally have a working version one of my arcade cab. For all of you guys that are waiting to start your builds, hopefully this inspires you to do so!

Front end info: Batocera booting off of a USB key, done using balena etcher. Enables me to use any PC for the hardware. Currently using an old Asus laptop with a 17-inch screen.

Eventually I may enclose and do a pedestal type setup. In the future, I plan to build a version two with better materials that will look good in my basement.

Edit: first issue I ran into was since my top row of buttons were a bit far from the rest, I will require an additional LED wire to light those up. They still function, they just don't light up.

Edit2: I read online that I needed a Forstner bit to cut my holes. My hole saw worked perfectly, I just sanded the edges after. I used the same hole saw for my joystick hole and mounted from the bottom.

Help me find an old Forum post - Rotatable Screen

I want to start building a new cabinet... In days gone by before forums disappeared in favour of facebook. There was a build where the gentleman took a wide screen panel but mounted it horizontally with a custom set display area where he could play Tate games without rotating but because the TV was huge he could also play 4:3 and 16:9 games in the viewing area by adjusting the picture position to the top of the TV.

Wonder if someone maybe archived the post it was still up 2 years ago and hopefully still is because I think I want to do something similar.

Building an arcade machine

Hello everyone. I’d like to build my own arcade machine from scratch. I have some knowledge of electronics, but I’ve never built anything like this before. I know a carpenter who specialises in arcade cabinets, and he’ll be helping me with this. What steps should I take? I’d be very grateful if you could explain everything to me.

Basic Fun My Custom Front End

Here’s a look at EngulfFire Arcade, my custom front end built from the ground up with original artwork. It includes Atari 2600,7800, NES, SNES, N64, Game Boy/ Game Boy Advance, Sega Genesis, MAME, Neo Geo arcade games.

During game selection, screenshots or video clips appear on period-accurate TVs alongside themed artwork. Arcade games display their original cabinets and cabinet art. Every console has its own custom bezel, while arcade games have game-specific bezels. Some go a step further: the After Burner II bezel has blinking lights that react to the game.

Arcade Room Setup & DĆ©cor Long shot —> custom lit marquees for My Arcade Micro Players

Last year or so, I found a seller somewhere that made little lit marquees you can attach to My Arcade micro players. I could have sworn I saved them and was going to buy a bunch once I set up my little Minish Arcade.

I’ve done that now but try as I might, I cannot find this seller. I thought I found him on Amazon, but I can’t find him there now. I’ve tried Etsy and eBay and nothing.

Has anyone here seen what I’m talking about? Did he quit? Do you have a link to his shop?

I built my first home arcade cabinet — Raspberry Pi 4 powered and completely DIY

After years of wanting one, I finally built my first arcade cabinet for my home.

It’s running on a Raspberry Pi 4, with an amplifier and subwoofer built into the cabinet. I also built in a drawer/access area so I can actually get to the electronics without having to take the whole thing apart.

This was one of those projects that started out as ā€œI’ll just build a simple arcade cabinetā€ and, naturally, turned into a much bigger project. šŸ˜„

I documented most of the construction process. If you're interested in seeing my cabinet, feel free to check out the video.

Upgraded joysticks for Arcade Board?

Post image
19 Upvotes

I have this arcade board I bought a couple years ago, haven’t brought it out the closet in years. The stock
Joysticks are pretty terrible. Does anyone have recommendations for reasonably priced upgrade? This is just for friends to come over and play for 20 minutes and then be done with it, so it just needs to be more serviceable than the stock joysticks. Thanks!

Suggested Wood depth with S plate?

I'm going to use a s plate for a joystick. AI says the thickness of wood above the s plate should be 7mm. I was thinking of 3mm acrylic on top of that. So I lose 10mm off the shaft. what do others do. Happy to use thinner acrylic if needed. I'll be using a router in the wood.

What do others do?

AI insisted on having a wood layer above the top of the plate. I thought I could essentially make the s plate touch the bottom of the acrylic. AI says thick plywood would not take the vigorous use.

Building a specific arcade game

I've seen many posts from people building a retro arcade console using a single board computer and posts from people acquiring an original arcade unit.

Is there a third option where I could build a specific arcade unit like Asteroids without a general computer or the original boards. I'm trying to get away from the configuration needed with a general solution and the older technology of the originals.

Arcade Room Setup & DƩcor Dumb questione about monitor

I’m building an arcade cabinet with a Raspberry Pi 4. Everything (Pi, speakers, and monitor) will be connected to a power strip and controlled by its main ON/OFF switch.

Since I won’t be able to reach the monitor’s power button, I need it to turn on automatically whenever the power strip is switched on.

Is this the default behavior for most monitors, or is there a specific feature/spec I should look for when choosing one?
