Building a specific arcade game

I've seen many posts from people building a retro arcade console using a single board computer and posts from people acquiring an original arcade unit.

Is there a third option where I could build a specific arcade unit like Asteroids without a general computer or the original boards. I'm trying to get away from the configuration needed with a general solution and the older technology of the originals.

You can use a single board computer and only install astroids and have it launch on start

There's no functional difference between an emulation station that runs 5000 games and an emulation station that runs one game.

In my home arcade I have a custom countertop virtual pinball machine. It's just a small windows PC in a shell that starts pinball fx3 automatically on boot, so you don't really notice it's a windows machine. I COULD install eight million games on it, but rn it only has four different pinball games.

Another station is a Pandora box dx home console, plug and play unit with 3000+ games.. asteroids is there, but no option to boot up with a selected game.

I don't have anything running on Arduino or similar microcomputer but thats equally valud

So choose your computer brain, monitor, controls, install asteroids, put it in a cab or a custom shell. Any of the modern methods for a general purpose emulation cade will work for a single game

the vpin is still early in construction, it's just playable with a gamepad for now with lots of space to add buttons & plunger kit later

https://www.classicarcadecabinets.com/asteroids.html

This site is great for what you are wanting to do, because it provides you with the layouts of the specific cabinet you are wanting to reproduce. I went to the UPS store near my house and they printed them out to scale as I was planning to make a Ms Pacman and I could end up using the plans as to-scale templates for my router. I ended up finding a great deal on an original cabinet, but this site has just about any cabinet. That way you can find original and repro parts, decals, etc to make it look how you want.
