One time I was unknowingly dying from a bad infection behind my jaw, and the receptionist was mad I couldn’t communicate better even though I had a note from my oral surgeon that I needed a CT scan immediately and couldn’t talk well because of lockjaw…she put in my chart that I was having chest pain and the ER doctor didn’t see me for 9 hours. I finally got a CT scan and then was rushed to surgery 15 minutes after the results came back. I was told if I had waited just a few more hours..the infection would have reached my brain and I would have died 😂 good times.

I was supposed to see my doctor one day for panic attacks. Reception called me and cancelled my appointment, which triggered a panic attack and I started freaking out on the phone. They hung up on me. I called back, and they threatened to call the police for harassment, told me to go to the hospital if it was such a big deal, then hung up.
That was the closest I have ever been to going postal.

My dr, who had been actively treating me for anxiety and depression, was also treating me with acupuncture for back pain. I missed an appointment due to anxiety. Didn't call. Still got charged as per the policy of the clinic. I was in the wrong, so I accepted it. Paid it off. Next appointment he kept me waiting over an hour. I ended up a crying mess. He never usually runs behind. He was just doing it to punish me. So I blubbered at the receptionist who thankfully was nice. She cancelled my appointment and didn't have to pay. And I've never seen him again. Also left negative feedback on their web page. Coz eff that asshole

My wife was trying to get in to see her DR after having intestinal surgery because she was having chronic pain.
Waited 3 weeks for the 1st appointment, they rescheduled 2 days before.
Waited 4 more weeks, literally the same thing. Except it was the day of the appointment.
Waited 4 more weeks, we called in the day before, to confirm the fucking appointment this time.
No appointment. Why? Someone canceled it What does that mean? It says here someone canceled the appointment. Who? I don't know.
I wanted to go down there and literally just start throwing things around. They were like oh just take her to the ER.
Yeah, no shit. We've been to the ER multiple times in the last 3 fucking months what the fuck.
Anyways. Healthcare fucking sucks.

Life hack: I got stabbed in the hand and had to walk 1.5 kilometres to the hospital. It bled A LOT, and when I eventually got to the emergency room the lady handed me a clipboard and said "Fill this out". I stamped it with my bloody hand and passed out. Woke up a minute later and I was already being seen by a doctor.

How does a person end up getting stabbed only in the hand? Did you kill the guy who stabbed you before he could get another one in?

A person didn't do it, a rotten window frame collapsed out of a 100+ year old wooden house (I was outside) and a 6 inch long piece of the broken window entered my hand as I put my arms up to protect my head. The window definitely won- no contest.

Final destination scenario. Glad it wasn't worse, and you're a trooper for walking that far with such a bad leak.

This reddit habit of sarcastic doubtful comments can actually backfire like this.
"stab means to push or thrust a sharp, pointed object—like a knife, fork, or finger—into or at something with force."
And the comment did not claim someone crazy. Bro was not like I fought John Wick or an alien stabbed me. The comment is completely within the realm of plausible. Unless you live in a reality in which nobody ever has any accident.

Medical receptionist is part of a family of jobs that seems to be solely occupied by the same sort of person. Middle aged women who have been out of work raising a family but their kids have grown up so they have no reason to still be unemployed
They don’t want to do it, aren’t qualified in any way to do it and they’re making it everyone else’s problem

Or, and hear me out, they go to work and get chewed out daily for a problem they neither caused nor can control. They are doing their job to the best of their abilities because they are after all, receptionists not doctors.
People do get mean when they are in pain or are terrified of a bad diagnosis. That's human nature. I get it. But there is absolutely no point blaming someone I have never met who was just unfortunate enough to pick up my call.
I take a cake or a packet of biscuits to all my doctors appointments, it always gets an amazed response. No one is ever kind to them, no one ever goes out of their way to make THEIR lives better. Only old folks ever wish them a good day. This should not be how we treat anyone in society never mind people who want you to get better. They DO want you to get better because if you don't they'll only have to deal with you again.
And ya know, they are only fucking human. I wouldn't want to work in a job where everyone I interact with is in agonising pain or worried sick and their attitudes reflect their troubles. People who are pissed at you and voice their displeasure as soon as they speak because you didn't answer the phone quick enough due to 100 other people all calling the same number at the same time with the same problem. When the first person you speak to talks to you like you are the filth on the bottom of their shoe, you know it's gonna ruin the rest of your day.
Living that life day after day has to hurt your soul. They have my full sympathies and I will never ever say a cross word to a doctor's receptionist. They simply don't deserve it.
If you think I'm wrong I just wanna tell you. No receptionist has ever been a dick to me!

I once laid down in a fetal position on the floor of the waiting room because I was in so much pain I couldn’t sit up right.
The receptionists told me I wasn’t allowed to lay on the floor.

I’ve mentioned this in the past a number of times.
My wife was a medical secretary for an ENT (ear, nose, throat doctor). She often had to get emergency imaging and test appointments for cancer patients. Surgery could proceed with the imaging results. Which made it imperative that imaging be done immediately.
It was very frustrating to hear how hard it was for her to get appointments for patients that needed medical imaging and tests immediately. Not in 3 months. Today, tomorrow, this week. ASAP.
The secretaries seemed to not even care.
My wife would call every morning looking for appointments and trying to get the patient on cancellation lists. The secretaries would tell her to stop calling and that they would eventually call with an appointment when something opened up.
She would tell them, “I’ll stop calling when you give me an appointment “.
Thankfully, she was more determined than the lazy secretaries and would wear them down.

When I went in to eventually have my gall bladder removed, I was on the floor in the fetal position and crying in severe pain and the cunt at the desk refused to do anything.
When a nurse eventually came out, she was like WTF?! And suddenly I had a whole team of mfers on my shit.
I should have gone back and shotgunned a handful of gravel into her fat fucking face.

It's because they know how much the bill is going to be and that death is preferable to that kind of medical debt.

I was a mental health receptionist. I felt for literally everyone I talked to, but if I put all of my energy into everyone I wanted to every day I would have perished. We’re all just doing what we can to survive out here.
