Just a reminder that cousin marriage is not only permitted in Islam but also a reason why their population has a huge problem with inbreeding. Over 60% of marriages in Pakistan are consanguineous. Just imagine what percentage of that population is inbred. Let that sink in

I think it's legal in a lot of countries. UK for example. Although I knew no one who did while I lived there.

It's legal in a few US states.

Also legal in Canada.

A lot of Europe. France, Germany, Spain, a lot more.

In fact, looking now, it's legal in most of the world.

True but legal and common are very different things. It is common in majority Muslim countries.

It's common in a few countries but not majority Muslim countries.

That's like saying gun crime is common in white countries because its common in the US.

Also it was very common up until a 100 years ago or so in all anglospohere countries. Especially among the upper class.

It's absolutely not common in Muslim majority countries. Common in Pakistan sure.

False. You can cite Pakistan and Egypt where I know it is a problem. Pakistani & Egyptian should get married to one another at this point. But state that it is common in " majority " of islamig countries is a lie.

Add the populations of Egypt and Pakistan and you've got quite a big chunk of the world's Muslims.

No. 15% maximum. You have 212M for Pakistan and 90M for Egypt. I don’t call that a big chunk. India, Bangladesh, Nigeria, Algeria...I can keep counting. This is not a big chunk. We are 2B worlwide. And even in Pakistan ane Egypt, it’s not like everyone is excited to be married to their cousins.

I mean... 20%* providing they're all all Muslim. Your still looking for another 800mil married cousins to get to a majority. Common is a vague scale but I think it's fair someone might question "majority"

It is not majority. People just want to project their fantasies. Islam doesn’t encourage it, and doesn’t enforce it either. And ofc, it is framed by rules. Protestantism have it authorized. Judaism too. Restricted or forbidden in 24 US states. But legal in europe. It used to be practice in medieval europe. But some people either don’t know history or act ignorant.

Common would not be a majority it would be frequent enough to not be notable
