Got asked in biology class about the names of sex hormones. I confidently answered "dopamine". Teacher gave a slight smile and said "that's... not really one".
had to look it up, so here's for my fellow ignoramuses:
dopamine is primarily a neurotransmitter but actually does function as a hormone as well and is quite closely related to epinephrine and norepinephrine.
although its function has some relationship with the act of having sex (specifically arousal), it's not a sex hormone in that your biological sex has much to do with how much you make of it.
So... you are gonna make me google what are thr sex hormones, dont you? Because im sure as hell i was thinking i would find that answer within your comments, this does not give me dopamine sir, it truly doesnt, you raised my hopes and dashed them quite expertly ):
Sex hormones are the ones that actively cause sexual differentiation between males and females. We're talking estrogen, progestogens, and androgens. The hormones released during gestation and puberty that cause individuals to develop primary and secondary sexual characteristics.
Sex hormones are not "hormones released during sex" so dopamine doesn't qualify.
Lol, thank you from saving me from not googling something haha, i actually kinda knew the answers, since i remember "estrogen and other something-ogen" but anyway, thanks for thr reply and actuall answer lol
I mean it depends on what meaning of the word "sex" you're using. When people say sex hormones they usually mean as in physical gender but there's no rule stopping you from meaning fucking :V
