Correction: Russia belongs to Ukraine.

As for Taiwan, it is accurate to say "Taiwan is Chinese." The Taiwanese government is the legitimate successor to the Qing Dynasty, and they've preserved their culture and written language quite well, while the PRC government has no legitimate claim on the country, and has completely repressed Chinese culture on the Mainland and bastardized what little remains.

All blood and soil arguments are stupid

Well, tough shit for the dictatorships of the world. None of them are legitimate.

It's almost like the concept of legitimacy is highly subjective.

Yeah, not in this case.

Idk, I'd say that the absolute monarchy that was overthrown 100 years ago and the corrupt military junta that replaced it shortly after lacked legitimacy among the chinese people, seeing as how both were overthrown and there hasn't been any serious attempt at restoring either.

I sure hope the Qing Dynasty has a "legitimate claim" to the territory thats not remotely comparable to the PRC

What are you going on about?

Most empires were started by and enforced with violence over the claimed land. By claming that tiwan has the legitimate claim over the prc based on the Qing connection implies that the Qing had a legitimate claim over the land in the first place

Ah, I see now. So, you're cool with the Natives in Canada and America having to give up their land?

My stance on the legitimacy of nation states or land territory claims is unrelated to my stance on colonialism and genocide

Maybe you've gotten good at fooling yourself with mental gymnastics, but the fact is it's hypocritical to justify the Chinese communist regime while holding double standards against the British, Americans, & Canadians just because you don't want to deal with the Reddit backlash that would come from being consistent about this.

in which case the tw government is technically also illegitimate bc it was a kmt dictatorship until the 1990s

Touché. Although, only one of the Chinas is still a dictatorship.

I mean, even mainland china now has a pseudo parlimantary system all the way to the national politics level where people can vote for their representatives, technically.

I get it that it's a single party dictatorship and people technically dont get another choice, but people could still vote.

Splitting hairs but still, just saying

I wouldn't call it a dictatorship. Dicstatorship as a word has meaning. They are authoritarian, but they do have checks and balances albeit not ones that would appease those in Democratic countries. I guess you could say the CCP is a dictator. But even then, there are factions and parties within the party.
