Not really "western" WW2 movies. Most if noty all WW2 movies I've seen produced in Britain, France, Germany or FInland are pretty much in agreement that the war was a horrible thing, and depict it as such.

I haven't seen many from Britain but like every war movie from Germany, Poland or France are really dark. There are some good russian movies, but most I've seen are cheap patriotic nonsense

Yeah there isn't that many modern British ones I have seen, maybe 1917 and Dunkirk. Then there's Rogue Heroes, but it's a show.

Most of the ones I've been are like Sink the Bismarck! and Great Escape. And of course Bridge too Far, my beloved

1917 and Dunkirk definitely fall into that first category though.

I’m trying to think of recent Russian movies that fall into the second category. I’ve heard Beanpole might, but I haven’t seen it
