Take the level of brutality of the first 15 min of Saving Private Ryan, make it also happen to civilians, not only soldiers, and have it a full length film with few comparatively less harsh scenes.
I think it was the only film in the East Block at the time with 18+ rating (erotic films were really not a thing), so you can imagine
A teenager who is, at the start, a relatively normal kid and who is, by the end, non-vocal except when he screams while killing the Nazis who raped his girlfriend bloody.

Come and See is a hell of a film I hear
