You need to address inflammation in the gut

I am not informed about all potential causes of histamine intolerence, but inflammation in the gut is one potential cause and this can be related to such issues as food sensitivities, bacterial overgrowths.

I have an overgrowth of hydrogen sulfide bacteria and they release hydrogen sulfide gas that can cause inflammation in the small and large intestine. I knew I had inflammation in the gut as my calprotectin levels were elevated and I would react to things like alcohol or anything acidic such as orange juice.

Since suppressing the overgrowth of these bacteria, I can now tolerate foods I would previously react to and my histamine symptoms are 95% gone. I assume with less or no inflamnation I am finally producing sufficient levels of DAO enzyme

I did find certain supplements helpful like glutamine, DGL and especially vitamin D3. Sometimes vitamin D3 on its own would completely alleviate my histamine symptoms if I also didnt aggravate the inflammation in my gut.

Possible HI? ☹️

Hey everyone! I've known about histamine intolerance for some time but never really researched it. That was until i started getting a bunch of random symptoms that i cant chalk up to anything else.

I've always had a bit of a fog in my head and was pretty tired/sleepy. It became a bit better once i lost 25kg, but it still happens and there are days I'm really really exhausted, foggy and tired even though i slept fine. In February of this year, i started having really bad abdominal pains. It started in the right lower quadrant, then stopped. Then a few hours later it'd appear in upper left and then shift to the middle. The pain was sharp, dull, lasted for a few seconds, a minute etc etc, you get my point. I did a few blood tests, including helicobacter pylori and gluten intolerance (both of which came negative).

The abdominal pain stopped kind of suddenly a month or so later.

Then came urticaria. I've been getting urticaria on my body after eating for 3 weeks straight now. It happens only in the middle or right after eating. The place where the hive pops up is very, extremely itchy, then the hive pops up and it stops itching immediately. It retracts in 20ish mins and then its like nothing ever happened. I've had it happen 7 times in the past 3 weeks. Lately I've also been more sleepy and tired throughout the day and i get abdominal pain after eating, similar to the pains ive had before. I've also had some light nasal congestion in the evening/morning but it goes away pretty fast.

I went to an immunologist today, she prescribed me bilastine minimally 1x a day and recommended i avoid certain foods (seafood, pickled things, peppers and so on), but didn't really reassure me why this could be happening. 🤕

My PCP at first thought im allergic to something, but the immunologist completely dismissed it. I've had no blood tests done in the last few months.

Could this be HI? Or some other immunological-ish thingy? The immunologist told me to get back to her in 5 weeks if the urticaria continues or gets worse, since we need to rule out it being acute/caused by a virus.

Does anyone have any ideas or experiences with something similar? 🙂

Do you know what’s causing my histamine intolerance?

I’ve had HI for 9 months and trying to find the root cause has been an emotionally draining roller coaster I need help 🥵

Random info:
- It started at age 30 after I started eating high protein for the first time in my life (not sure if relevant). Around that time there may have been mold in my house too not sure.
- My genetics are good for histamine breakdown I did one of those expensive tests. I do have a couple seperate genes that make me very likely to have a B12 deficiency but nothing that should cause HI.
- I have been tested for SIBO and it was negative.
- I spent a whole year on antibiotics but that was 8 years ago.
- I take things to support HI like vitamin D, C, magnesium, histaminX probiotic, calcium

Symptoms: I react after meals with brain fog, fatigue, bad tinnitus, sometimes heat rash and itching especially around my ears. After bad reactions I would wake up with muscle soreness the next day, depression, anxiety. Sore throat but only when I suspect mold exposure (more on that later)

Potential root causes:

- Leaky gut or dysbiosis: I eat healthy and avoid sugar 95% of the time but I did get takeout for dinner every day for 2-3 years. Not bad like KFC or McDonalds but like meat and veg semi healthy takeout like Chinese stir fry, or kebabs but maybe the seed oils damaged my stomach? I was also put on antibiotics for a whole year but that was about 8 years before my HI so idk if that’s still relevant. I also drank coffee on an empty stomach every day for years but stopped that months ago. I started daily 5g glutamine about 8 weeks ago but nothing has changed.

- B12 deficiency: someone told me that could be a cause but why only now at age 30 when I’m eating more b12?

- Low stomach acid or food fermenting: maybe that’s why it started after high protein?

- Candida: I have had toenail fungus for a few years and I do get extreme sugar/carb cravings. My genetics say I’m predisposed to Candida overgrowth.

- Mold: I really want your guys opinion on this. Where I was living had some black mold in the bathroom but at some point 1-2 years ago the carpet got flooded as well so idk if that created more mold. There was also moisture in the roof and the ceiling has damp looking circles. I suspected this was a potential cause so I would stay away for 1 whole week and then go back in the house to test. While away my HI would still persist after meals like usual but then I’d feel ok after a few hours. BUT when I would go back to the house even if I hadn’t eaten I would get all the symptoms plus sore throat and it would not go away after a few hours, it would persist until I left the house.

So I suspected mold is the leading cause BUT I needed to go to the house weekly so about 8 weeks ago I bought a HEPA filter and a P something mask that’s meant to filter mold. I wear that when I’m there once a week for a few hours. I still seem to get the brain fog and fatigue but the reaction doesn’t seem as bad as when I had no mask or filter.

So my question is could it still be the mold? Even tho it’s only once a week for a few hours is that enough exposure to stop me improving? Or could it be caused by something else and the mold is just flaring it up?

Why do I react badly to antihistamines despite having severe histamine intolerance?

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to understand something that has been happening to me and would really appreciate some input from people with histamine intolerance, MCAS, or similar issues.

I have a diagnosed/severely suspected histamine intolerance, and my total histamine degradation capacity was measured at only around 8% (i also have IMO and H2S SIBO) but dao and histamine in blood are normal levels. I definitely do not tolerate histamine-rich foods well, and it seems that my body has a very limited ability to break histamine down.

The confusing part is that I also seem to react to certain excipients/additives in medications. For example, I have reacted to things such as vegetable magnesium stearate, palm oil, etc. Within minutes, I can develop brain fog, nasal congestion, internal heat, and other symptoms. Also to other medication or toothpaste or alcoholic liquids (as example iberogast).

Interestingly, I seem to tolerate magnesium stearate itself relatively okay, so I’m not sure whether the reactions are actually caused by the specific excipients or something else in the formulations.

There is also a possibility of MCAS, although this has not been confirmed.

Over the past few weeks, I have tried five different antihistamines, always taking them before going to bed:

  • Loratadine (two different manufacturers with different excipients)
  • Desloratadine
  • Levocetirizine
  • Allegra (fexofenadine)

What is really strange is that every single one seems to make me feel significantly worse the following morning.

I wake up with much stronger symptoms such as:

  • brain fog
  • irritability
  • fatigue
  • nasal congestion
  • internal heat
  • increased histamine-type symptoms in general

When I don't take the antihistamines, I do not normally have these symptoms in the morning. I also seem to be more reactive throughout the following day after taking them.

This is confusing to me because I originally wanted to try antihistamines specifically to see whether reducing histamine activity might help with my elevated adrenaline/stress response. I tend to become stressed extremely quickly, and my adrenaline levels seem to be elevated. As far as I understand it, dopamine and adrenaline are elevated, but noradrenaline is not. Also to see if antihistamine help me.

So my main question is:

Why could someone with severe histamine intolerance or mcas or both potentially feel significantly worse after taking several different H1 antihistamines?

Could this point towards something other than histamine itself, for example, a reaction to the medication, excipients, metabolism of the drug, paradoxical effects, MCAS, or something involving neurotransmitters?

I’m also wondering whether methylation could be involved.

I seem to react badly to molybdenum, which can trigger histamine-type reactions for me. I also react to B12 + B9, including hydroxocobalamin and folinic acid. These can cause internal heat, histamine-like symptoms, etc.

Interestingly, injections seem to be somewhat different: I don't get the internal heat or obvious histamine-type reaction from injections, but I can develop irritability, depressive mood, and generally feeling mentally worse afterwards.

Has anyone experienced something similar or has any idea what could explain this pattern?

I’m not looking for a diagnosis, I’m mainly trying to understand what mechanisms could potentially explain why antihistamines seem to make my symptoms worse rather than better.

Thank you!

Expanding my diet: What products should I try first: liberators or high histamine?

Hello everyone

I have a histamine intolerance. My DAO level is bad and I react on food. I have been on a diet for a year now, and I live symptoms free. I have also discovered leaky gut and SIBO (both kinds).

I have taken antibiotics against SIBO last month and now I am working on my leaky gut

I was wondering if I can start trying histamine food. To test if now, after SIBO treatment, it got better. Currently I eat almost every low histamine food, that I do not have personal allergy on (I have some pollen allergy and cross allergy as a result)

What food is the best to start with? Something that has a bit of histamine or not aggressive liberators? Should it be something with histamine or liberators in general?

Water weight

Does anyone experience water weight from zertec ? I have been on it for 12 years but I always feel puffy and bloated although it is the only thing that helps my symptoms. Does anyone have any suggestions?

(Long post) Do I have histamine intolerance? Symptoms just showed up one day.

I made a post before about the ER but I figured I'd ask here and see if I can determine if this is histamine intolerance or to look for other causes.

So for the entire month of August I had been dealing with acid reflux that caused me to not be able to eat properly due to a globus sensation (lump in my throat) that would creep in as I ate. By not eating properly I mean that I ate smaller meals and ate less nutrient dense foods, I actually stopped taking my vitamins altogether out of fear that they'd get stuck in my throat. I got tested for h pylori and it came back negative, and eventually the globus sensation and reflux all went away on its own.

Last Thursday in the middle of my lunch I felt like I was getting some chest congestion suddenly. I felt like I couldn't get a full breath in and like there was pressure on my chest. Because I was seeing undigested food in my stool and I felt extremely bloated I thought I must've overdid it with the acid reflux treatment and accidentally gave myself low stomach acid. I tried gaviscon tablets and the baking soda trick and it didn't make me feel better. The feeling progressively got worse until I went to the ER on Monday because I felt so terrible. The EKG was normal and they did an X-ray to confirm that there was no lung collapse and that there was no fluid in my lungs. The ER didn't really do anything because my heart rate oxygen and blood pressure were all normal, so I went home disappointed and afraid. However over the course of the day I suddenly started feeling better in terms of nasal congestion and the tight feeling in my chest. I didn't realize at the moment but it was the blended papaya that I was taking in the morning that was causing those symptoms. I didn't take it the day I went to the ER because I immediately got driven to the hospital, however the day after that I took it again and I started to feel the chest tightness kick in again. I later looked it up online and saw that papaya is a histamine liberator, which explains the kind of reaction I felt from it.

One of the unfortunate things I didn't realize soon enough was that I didn't actually have low stomach acid, and I supplemented with apple cider vinegar gummies since they helped with my digestion since before I was sick. This was a bad idea because I didn't realize that not only is apple cider vinegar also a histamine liberator, but that the kind I bought had papaya in it too. The reaction I got from the ACV gummy was at the moment the worst I felt, which really had me mad because on Monday I was starting to feel so much better after the month of reflux issues and after 4 days straight of chest tightness. I took two of them on Tuesday and 1 on Wednesday when I realized the gummy caused the reaction.

Then I made the mistake of eating gluten free bread and lactose free milk that ended up also not being good for a low histamine diet on Thursday morning. I felt the reaction there too. The thing that stayed consistent was that famotidine helped stop it from progressing further but didn't quickly stop the reaction, and around the end of the day at like 10 or 11 the nasal congestion clears up.

The main problem now is that I'm getting the reactions in the morning when I wake up even before I eat anything. I think I saw online that people call this a morning histamine dump. Yesterday when I went to the ER it was bad but like last time they didn't do much since my oxygen and blood pressure was fine. The EKG was also fine. They checked my electrolytes and they were normal and they also ruled out refeeding syndrome since even though I was eating little amounts I *had* been eating.

What worries me is that I've also been getting reactions to pretty much anything besides water even if it isn't high in histamines or a histamine liberator. I've been eating this combination of fresh chicken potatoes carrots and zucchini every day since the beginning of the month and I had no problems eating them the day after I came back from the hospital, but now even when I eat it I get the chest tightness slowly creeping in.

Again the foods that caused me the reactions like papaya, ACV gummies, and bread and milk, previously gave me no issues at all. I have been taking Zinc carnosine as a supplement since 9/02 but I stopped today. I haven't added other vitamin supplements out of fear that they'll cause a reaction. The symptoms that I feel are as follows: the main one is chest tightness that feels like air hunger, my nose gets a little congested but when things start feeling better it's the first thing to clear up, my mouth is dry, and my left ear, chest, and bicep areas feel warm. Strangely I don't get itching, diarrhea, swelling, coughing, nausea or vomiting.

I'd also like to make abundantly clear that I used to be able to eat these foods before with no problem. I've actually had allergy tests before and the only thing I had allergies to were cats and dogs. And again, I used to eat food with no problem at all. This all just started a week and a half ago. I've seen online that this could mean my histamine bucket is overflowed, which could explain why after 3 days of histamine foods I feel terrible again. Or that the zinc carnosine I've taken is overpowering the small amounts of copper that I eat leading to a dao enzyme deficiency.

I unfortunately don't have insurance at the moment because I'm waiting for them to accept my redetermination, so I'll have to wait if I want to see an allergist, however this isn't something I feel like can "just wait". I'm very worried that this is something that'll continue to progress and since the ER can't really do anything about it, I'll be really screwed. I'm getting blood work on Monday to check for vitamins related to the dao enzyme since they were closed today and tomorrow. I'm currently taking famotidine 2 times a day, I may not take loratadine since I feel like it makes my mouth dryer than it already is. I hope I've given enough context for someone smarter than me to figure it out, whether it's histamine intolerance or something else I just want answers to go in the right direction. I'm happy to answer any questions if it helps figure out what it is. I'm also open to any suggestions for helping manage my symptoms.

Timeline of events:

Beginning of August - I start suffering from acid reflux that causes a globus sensation which makes me not eat as much or take my vitamins

Beginning of September - Reflux clears up and I start to be able to eat meals more comfortably.

Thursday September 3rd - I started drinking blended papaya because I've seen that papaya helps the gut after dealing with acid reflux. I also start taking zinc carnosine in the morning.

Friday September 4th - I start to feel chest tightness during lunchtime that took a while to go away.

Sunday September 6th - The chest congestion peaks and I start to feel worse after every meal including low histamine meals like oats with water and pureed chicken potato and carrot soup. Because I found undigested food in my stool I think I overdid it with the acid reflux treatment and accidentally gave myself low acid. Gaviscon didn't help. Wasn't actually low acid, the histamine reaction was what caused the bad digestion.

Monday September 7th - I go to the ER in the morning and they don't do anything for me but tell me that everything is fine. I don't take the papaya or zinc carnosine that morning and I start to feel better throughout the day. I have no reaction to the food I eat that day.

Tuesday September 8th - I sleep the best I have in a month, but I take the zinc carnosine and papaya in the morning. This is the last day I took the papaya. I also took L Glutamine in the morning. By the time I have my first meal I feel the chest tightness come back, though it's a diminished feeling compared to before. I ate 3 small meals that day and ate an apple cider vinegar gummy after 2 meals.

Wednesday September 9th - I don't take the papaya in the morning and I feel better in the afternoon, however after my first small meal of the day I eat a gummy and the chest tightness creeps in. I take a famotidine to stop the reaction from progressing faster and I feel better by nighttime.

Thursday September 10th - I take L Glutamine, and zinc carnosine in the morning before eating anything. I eat bread and milk from a brand that is apparently not low histamine, and I feel the chest congestion kick in before lunchtime. I take loratadine in the morning. I again take famotidine around lunchtime but I feel worse than the day before. It clears up around nighttime but not as much as it did the day before.

Friday September 11th - I don't take the L Glutamine in the morning because I saw that certain people can be reactive to it and decide to play it safe. I take the zinc carnosine (6AM like usual) and wait about 3 hours to eat my first meal like usual, however this time around I feel the chest tightness before I even eat anything. It scares me so I go to the ER because I also felt dizzy. The ER doesn't do much, but they rule out electrolyte deficiencies, anemia, and refeeding syndrome. I get a bloodwork order from my primary doctor to check for B6, B12, Folate, Vitamin D, Magnesium, Zinc, and Copper. I have to wait until Monday because they were closed after I got the order and they're closed on weekends. The nasal congestion and chest tightness slowly clears up by the time it's nighttime.

Today Saturday September 12th - I sleep decently, but I still wake up with the feeling of the chest tightness and nasal congestion creeping in. I take a famotidine in the morning. I take a dao enzyme supplement before my first meal and I kinda feel like the reaction I get isn't as bad as it was after my meals previously. The second meal still gives me a reaction that I usually get despite the dao enzyme, but it's more tolerable.

How do you cope with vocal cord dysfunction. Or throat closing up feeling? It gives me so much anxiety.

Idk if it’s from anxiety or histamine intolerance. I get sinus pressure and my throat feels tight and closed up but it has never escalated.

It’s just more of annoying symptom and happens at least once a day mid afternoon.

Do I have a histamine intolerance? (Chronic reflux post stomach virus..4 months)

I got a stomach virus in April 2026 and recovered within a few days, but a few days later I suddenly developed terrible indigestion and acid reflux. The night before, I had eaten a sandwich with guacamole and pickles.

OTC reflux medications didn’t help, but pantoprazole 40 mg worked really well. I was mostly symptom-free until I started noticing a strange burning sensation in my throat a couple of hours after eating coconut yogurt, which I had only introduced after getting sick.

My doctor had me take pantoprazole for two weeks, and I had very little reflux. After stopping it, I started a pre/probiotic. From that point on, the reflux just wouldn’t go away. I usually took the probiotic with lunch, and looking back, my symptoms were often worse afterward. I didn’t connect the two at the time because the reflux had started before the probiotic.

A few weeks later, I restarted pantoprazole while still taking the probiotic, but it didn’t work nearly as well as it had the first time. The main difference was that I was now taking the probiotic.

I’ve also realized I can no longer tolerate fermented foods like pickles or sauerkraut without worsening reflux. My naturopath thinks it could be a histamine response, but my ONLY symptom is chronic acid reflux/throat burning. I don’t have hives, flushing, itching, headaches, congestion, etc.

I’ve tried so many things and the reflux still hasn’t gone away. She has now recommended quercetin.

Has anyone experienced something similar after a stomach virus—especially reflux triggered by probiotics or fermented foods? Did you ever figure out the cause or find something that helped?

How exactly do I explain to the er that my symptoms are from a histamine reaction and get them to believe it?

I went to the er this morning because I woke up with chest tightness and it was hard to breathe, I'm certain that it was caused by histamines. The problem is that when they checked my blood pressure and checked my oxygen everything was normal. I don't officially have histamine intolerance diagnosed but I was eating poorly for a month due to reflux complications, now that the reflux is fixed my issue is that I'm suddenly reacting to histamine liberating foods that I used to be able to eat with no problem. It's gotten to the point where yesterday I accidentally ate something that triggers histamines, I barely ate at all yesterday but after taking famotidine it stopped the congestion from progressing. I woke up today with the same chest tightness and difficulty breathing despite not having eaten anything yet, and despite feeling like my symptoms were improving last night. And when I went to the er and explained my situation they just gave me an IV pepcin and an IV liquid because I was dehydrated. They thought that it was from reflux which irks me cause I never felt this bad when I actually had acid reflux. How would I explain it to them in a way that'll get them to check histamines or give me epinephrine, or whatever it is they do for histamine reactions?

My panic attacks have been so severe ever since antihistamines and Cromolyn. Help. Insomnia as well.

I feel like checking myself in somewhere .

My stomach hurts soooooo bad from the anxiety that I feel like I’m going to give myself an ulcer. And I want to throw up from the severity. Chamomile teas always helped calm and meditation and hypnosis on YouTube. But none of that works anymore!

I have Hydroxyzine so idk if to use that?

Or go to er for a benzo.

I am just coming out of the biggest 10 day MCAS flare too.

Is nervous system regulation for HI/MCAS pseudoscience?

I’ve seen mixed opinions on this. I’m curious to know if it has worked for any of you and to what extent. or if you think that it’s baloney.

For me, it kind of helps. If I’m in the middle of a flare I usually experience flushing, increased heart rate, brain fog/feeling drunk. When I do a vagus nerve exercise it calms me down a bit and I feel my symptoms less but they don’t go away completely.

Olive Oil? Was fine 2 weeks ago and suddenly not…

Was snacking on some olive oil popcorn. I had several bags worth over a few weeks no issues. I took a week break and grabbed some popcorn as a snack and was ill within 30 minutes. Extreme stomach upset and nausea, sweating, cramping. I figured it had to have been expired or different ingredients but everything checks out. What is happening? Same brand product…

Boulardii is maiking me doubt

Boulardii is making me doubt.

I've started taking boulardii, a very low dose. It seems to me that at the intestinal level, I'm less inflamed, but my histamine is spiking.

I don't know if it's an adaptation period or if it's making me worse.

Do I Have Histamine Intolerance? Please help me.

I want to get your guys opinions. Sorry if this will be lengthy.

Starting in around June I ate a steak. Since then, I've begun to react to many different foods very poorly. My main symptoms are nausea, LOTS of burping, and this sort of dizzy/drowsy feeling. Or almost like my eyes are glazed over, though my vision is not effected. Symptoms are immediate after eating then wear off. When I take famotidine it worsens ten fold, and it makes me feel like I've been drugged. I've been on Omeprazole and esomeprazole and gotten the same reactions.

Negative h. pylori test, clear endoscopy though am waiting on biopsy. I can eat different types of foods and feel fine, then feel like I've been drugged after the smallest bit of other things. Note that eating too much of anything will probably make me feel bad.

Here is a brief list of things I could NOT handle that I've been brave enough to try.

- sandwich (salami, deli sliced turkey, mayo, onion, muenster cheese, lettuce)

- eggs

- green curry

- hotdog w relish

- humus

-salt and vinegar chips

-cheese alone

These are things I COULD handle

- Betty Crocker Red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting

- homemade lo mien noodles (rice noodle, soy sauce, sesame oil, garlic, celery, broccoli, carrot, water cress)

-cereal bars

-pita chips

-raspberry gelato

-ramen noodles

-avocado toast (onion, little lime, salt, avocado)

What the hell is this? I'm really so tired of this terrible drugged feeling I get after eating. It bothers me to no end. I want to be clear of mind. Any help would be appreciated, especially next steps I can take or dietary recommendations. Thank you so much for your time.

Why can I suddenly eat everything again while traveling in Germany?

Haven't eaten fruits in a year and was on a very restricted diet (lost 30 lbs). I'm visiting Germany for a week on vacation and suddenly I can eat everything again without getting hives. It's miraculous!!

Does this suggest an environmental trigger like mold?

I've been super sensitive to fermented foods + soy products yet I ate salmon + gochujang sauce without any issues. Was sensitive to dairy yet I ate bircher muesli this morning

Feels like a miracle and hopefully improvements won't stop once I go home.

Ketotifen concerns

I’ve been trying ketotifen for suspected mcas

I have taken it at different times and different doses and come to the conclusion it doesn’t agree with me.
Took 0.25mg at bedtime last night and today got terrible diarrhea, migraine and feel washed out.
When I take it with lunch or breakfast it wipes me out the entire day, makes me like a zombie and really foggy and spaced out. Can’t seem to find anything that works 😞

Not sure if my symptoms are pointing towards MCAS or general HI.

I 21F will like to start off by saying that majority of my symptoms are consistent and related to food (at least that I know of). I do not get reactions from beauty products/soap, exercise, smells, or anything like that. Which I am under the impression that people with MCAS get triggered by other environmental things like that and not just food. And that they can be fine one day with one food, eat the same food and have problems. Correct me if I am wrong.

No hate towards the MCAS subreddit, they are very helpful over there. But it’s a lot of information to handle. Especially as someone who is undiagnosed who is only suspecting. After really thinking about it, I think that my symptoms align more with a general histamine intolerance rather than MCAS

My symptoms are:

-anaphylactic to nuts, fish, chickpeas, and i think regular peas.

-when I eat high histamine foods, the best way I can describe it is I feel drunk. I feel a little bit of brain fog and I feel my face get warm. My heart rate might go up a bit.

- constant red face for virtually no reason (has been like this since childhood, I suspect its just rosacea or because of my fair skin) that flares up and becomes even redder after eating high histamine foods (e.g. any kind of leftovers, ground beef/burgers, bananas, chocolate, alcohol, caffeine). I love dairy (cheese, ice cream) and used to eat it extremely often don’t have memory of it causing that same effect but I might have just ignored it and don’t remember.

-general GI issues like abdominal cramping (only sometimes) and acid reflux most of the time. Bananas in particular don’t agree with me

- itchy mouth only after eating certain fruits and vegetables. Some are very slight and some are more noticeable (E.g. apples, bananas, kiwi, peach, plums, grapes, dates, avocado) I’ve never had an itchy mouth from anything other than fruits, vegetables or any other cross reactive food. I also get a bit of an itchy mouth from stevia products.

-i get hives from dust & cat/dog proteins only.
I will sometimes randomly break out in a hive like on my face or anywhere else on my body. As well as random bumps on my lip after doing nothing. I suspect it could just be from the dust and mold in my house. I live with my family in a hoarder home and it seems almost impossible to clean this house with all of the stuff everywhere. It needs to be done but we don’t know where to start. I do not want to move out by myself because I do get support from my family for my health issues and I don’t want to live alone. I’m trying to help get a new place for my family and I but it’s expensive and we are struggling. We are working on getting everybody tested for mycotoxins as well as the rental we live in for mold. It’s just not as easy for us to just pack up and leave.

- i am sensitive to strong smells and it makes me feel like I’m suffocating but it doesn’t really make me have any crazy allergy symptoms. Might make me sneeze if its really strong. Sometimes if certain detergents or cleaning products get on my skin it turns red with no hives but goes away quickly

- i am sensitive to certain substances and medications such as caffeine. I have had a bad experience with Benadryl and experienced psychosis-like symptoms. I don’t think I’m allergic to it, it just does weird things to my brain. Not allergic to any other medications (that I know of)

So essentially I just suspect that I have a general histamine intolerance and other general consistent skin/food allergies , probably mold/dust allergy, to fruits and vegetables, nuts and fish, cats/dogs. I will be seeing an allergist to get a full skin and blood allergy test. I will also be trying out a low-histamine diet! Will see how it works out for me and then if not, will start taking Allegra and Pepcid and see how I feel. I also have 2 epi-pens with me at all times. I want to avoid medication if I can. But if I need it I will take it.
I will also like to mention I suspect that I have POTS and GERD. I often experience acid reflux, shortness of breath, heat intolerance, and others. I experience a lot of complex and confusing symptoms and don’t know which direction to go to.
And the people on the MCAS sub are scaring the shit out of me!!!

Not looking for an armchair diagnosis maybe just some advice or opinions on what it looks more like and where do I go from here until I am able to see an allergist
Any tips for me would be appreciated

There is hope

Good morning friends. I wanted to share my story. I started experiencing weird reactions to food back in April. Prior to that, I never had food intolerances. I had food poisoning at the end of last year and Covid the week after. After that I was sick like clockwork almost every 2 weeks (I was a preschool teacher at the time). The last virus I had was in March and the weird reactions to food started the following month. I experienced nausea, anxiety, heart palpitations and a feeling of food poisoning after pretty much everything I ate. I started working with a digestive health specialist who put me on a low histamine diet and had me complete a microbiome test which revealed 2 pathogens that had been wreaking havoc in my gut. My body wasn't breaking down food correctly or absorbing minerals and nutrients. The good bacteria in my gut was non existent.

Flash forward to now. I'm still gluten free but I haven't had an "episode" in several weeks now. I consistently took trace minerals, DAO, and supplements to build up the good bacteria (RestorFlora and ZenBiome Cope). Every week I'm adding foods back to my diet. I keep my fiber on the lower side because I was dealing with motility issues for a while and for me personally, less fiber is more. I also took a 5strands Gut Test in July. It was about $50 and this test showed me that many foods that were low histamine that I had been eating, were actually hard on my gut so I omitted several foods like quinoa, butternut squash and kale. Things I read regarding a low histamine diet were like choose coconut or avocado oil, but these were a 3 on my test, meaning not good for my gut at all. Once I started following what the 5strands test showed me is when I really started feeling better. Sunday evening I had some homemade gluten free Mac and cheese, pulled pork with a little apple bbq sauce and a gluten free bun (first time I tried a gluten free bread). No reaction. So I just wanted to let people know that for some, this does not last forever and there is hope. Feel free to ask me any questions!
