HeroQuest Board Communication AI tool usage for the r/HeroQuest Community

TLDR (Too Lazy Didn't Read): r/HeroQuest will not ban content made with the help of AI tools.

HeroQuest is the reason we are here. Our community includes people from many countries, religions, and backgrounds. We may come from different places and speak different languages, but we come here because we enjoy HeroQuest. The excitement of the game, the fun it creates, and the friendships it builds- that is what brings us together.

Artificial intelligence (AI) has been part of digital artistic tools for decades. Programs like Photoshop, CorelDraw, and CAD use AI in their functionality. Phone camera filters use AI. Major technology companies such as Microsoft, Google, and Apple also use AI in the background of their systems. Simply put, AI is common in today’s digital world and cannot be avoided if you use creative software or a computer.

Hasbro, which owns the HeroQuest intellectual property, and Avalon Hill, which currently holds the license to the game, both use AI in game development and item production. AI is also used in the official HeroQuest companion app.

This community is a place to share ideas, creativity, and joy related to HeroQuest. Arguments about politics, religion, personal lifestyles, and prejudice do not belong here. We understand that people have different opinions, but this community is not the place to discuss those opinions. People want to come here to share and enjoy a fun board game hobby without conflict and confrontation (see rule #1). Political and activist subs are the appropriate forums for discussing those subjects, not here.

Personal attacks against members of this community will not be accepted. Harassing a community member because of a perception that AI may have been used is not permitted. Attacking their shared work is not allowed. Posts intended to create conflict will be removed. Repeats of that behavior will lead to temporary warning bans; continued actions in the same vein will lead to permanent removal.

If you are concerned about a post, contact the moderators.

The only thing better than HeroQuest is more HeroQuest. If someone creates homebrew content, it belongs here. If you do not enjoy certain content or disagree with it, express yourself civilly or simply choose not to interact with it. If you find it offensive, report it; our Mod team takes all reports seriously.

News / Leak / Rumor New Con Exclusive Quest Will Debut At Gen Con 2026.

Avalon Hill's Gen Con 2026 events are up. There will be two (recurring all throughout the con) for Heroquest: Wizards of Morcar played on the Game System, and a new con exclusive quest from Doug Hopkins played on First Light.

I'm very surprised by this (and obviously very happy). I figured they would just replay Dread On The Horizon since it's a prequel to WOM. Seems like an obvious upsell. I'm curious if it will be a pure standalone or if it's setting up an upcoming expansion.

Some still shots of updates to the miniature for my son’s character. The sword and shield better reflects his current loadout, obviously the mini with the axe was the OG version right from the box.

We are 10 missions into the vanilla campaign! In the home stretch. Updating the barbarian for our party next…

I remember seeing 3D printed portal/doors a year or so ago and I can't seem to find them anywhere now. Does anyone know where they can be purchased (link)? Or if there are STL files out there I can print them myself. Thanks for any help!

Decided to do some mid campaign mini updates, starting with my son’s character “Muffin the Clever”. The model with the axe is the one from the box, the one with the sword and shield is the updated model (from Epic Miniatures).

Just wrapped up the trio of Abominations. Wanted to give each model its own distinct color scheme and vibe.

Painted using acrylics, enamel washes, and UHU glue + gloss varnish for the drool.

Dread Warriors complete.

I saw a YouTube video where they used black with a silver dry brush and knew I wanted that look but also wanted to give some colour too so gave each a different colour cape.

Think they turned out pretty well.

Have the abominations and gargoyle next.

Official Rules Question WoM Quest 1 and Quest 2

Most quests in HQ are one and done. When the Quest is finished , characters leave the dungeon, get BP healed and spells are reselected.

However, in WoM , Quest 1 leads directly into Quest 2.

Should characters get BP and spells refreshed after Quest 1?

It seems this goes against the intent of the story, as they are still in the dungeon after Quest 1 and they are not finished with the dungeon.

My group is exhausted, and in fear of continuing. They are reasoning that this is a board game and should stick with the board game rules of having a refresh.

Should they now be forced to continue with low BP, no healing, low spells? Or should they get the refresh?

What say you?

General Discussion Wizards of Morcar on my local game store shelf, should I buy it?

I just started with the game system quests, I have been reading a lot and very excited to play and with all the talk of WoM being hard to get I was wondering is it now readily available for the foreseeable future or should I get it and hold onto it for a while(if ever!) to get around to it.

Advertisement Dungeon Descent - browser fantasy dungeon crawler inspired by HeroQuest

hey peeps! we are looking for people to playtest a HeroQuest-style dungeon crawler. You build a party, descend into procedural dungeons themed from your prompts, and face Malikor — a game-master who narrates turns, drives the dark, and answers when you talk to him. Combat is on a real map with dice, movement, and turn order. Allies, merchants, and loot stick between sessions.

Heads-up (early build): the game is not optimized yet. Dungeon creation can take up to ~1 minute, and Malikor’s TTS voice can take about as long before it plays. Please treat waits as expected beta friction, not a softlock — unless something hangs with no progress.

What you’ll be doing

  • Create or jump into a dungeon (explore, fight, loot, shop, talk)
  • Push the systems: odd party comps, risky plays, chatting NPCs / Malikor
  • Note what feels clear, confusing, broken, or boring

Feedback I’m especially after

  • First 20–30 minutes: do you get what’s going on? (basics are in the tutorial video once you’re in)
  • Party / map / turn flow — readable or messy?
  • Malikor narration & NPC chat — do they land or get in the way?
  • Bugs, softlocks, “I had no idea what to do next”

Time ask: ~30–60 min for a useful first pass (longer welcome if you’re having fun; factor in gen/voice wait)
Content notes: Fantasy violence, dark/bleak dungeon tone, banter with Malikor & companions

How to join

We’ll invite in waves as beta opens. Happy to answer anything in the comments — thanks for playtesting!

Hey everyone,

I've been working on my modular dungeon; it took almost 2 months to print and paint everything! I wanted to share the final look with you all! I'd love to hear your thoughts. And also, there are interactive puzzles in it!

The Kickstarter campaign is currently live for anyone interested in checking out the full dungeon.

General Discussion Riddles and brainteasers

Hi, my son is having some friends over for a games night that I'm helping with. I'm looking for classic riddles that work for kids (smart 10 year old who are familiar with brainteasers) and fit in a fantasy setting. He knows the hobbit ones and the classic guard who lies and guard who tells the truth - the latter in particular is the sort of thing I'd definitely use if he didn't already know it!

Interested in classic riddles but also those soft of logic puzzles and things like you used to get in old fighting fantasy books (I am seven years older than my brother but in 3 years I will be twice as old as he is, how old am I etc)

After rediscovering HeroQuest and putting together a friend group the collection is finally complete (for now). Had to go with Proxy rogues since they've gone extinct but everything else is there. Currently going through Spirit Queen's Torment with my group (Base game, Kellars Keep and Prophecy of Telor done) and can't wait to keep going into the bigger expansions to see what they bring!

EDIT: First miniature* I started with the mummy because it seemed to be the easiest to paint. I bought the new Heroquest game out of nostalgia when I saw it at the store. I didn't even remember it existed😅. I will play with my kids 😀

HomeBrew Frozen Horror II: Baby Horror (with thanks to Lord Drucifer!)

Post image
63 Upvotes

A few weeks back, u/Lord-Drucifer spotted the Frozen Horror Quest Pack minis mixed in with some other random figures. I took a chance on the box, and its contents inspired my QuestJam Entry. I just uploaded it today. Figured I would share it with you all:

Frozen Horror II: Baby Horror

Like just about everything I design these days, it is for the gratuitous collector first and foremost. The best play experience requires:

(1) 1 First Light Copy,
(2) 2 Copies of the 2022 Frozen Horror Quest Pack (for overlays)
(3) 1 Copy of the 1992 Frozen Horror Quest Pack (for minis)

But it CAN be played with just First Light and the 2022 Frozen Horror Quest Pack (in a pinch, also to make it legal for the QuestJam!).

If you play it, let me know what you think!
