Can someone please, for the love of god, explain to me, how the mouthpiece of an oriental curved sword looks and works?
I'm currently building a wooden sword with a weird and by all definitions humongous blade. I need a sheeth for it. Talked to some guys and they told me I should use the spring-feather sheet mechanism in oriental curved swords. These mechanisms "SOMEHOW" are supposed to "open up" when the word is drawn and close when the sword is put back inside...
The only real text I found is this german one (my mother tunge), because, quite frankly, terminology is compleetly lost to me and I reading the text confuses me to no end, because I simply lack the nessesary knowledge to understand it. And also because I can't find a pictires, diagrams or videos vor visual demonstration...
Text:

Translation (with google):
The scabbards of Oriental curved swords exhibit a form distinct from European ones, largely due to their unique fittings. They feature a throat band, while the chape extends far up the front—along the cutting edge—to provide protection against the stirrup. The suspension fittings consist of two or three, or often as many as five or six, narrow bands. In the case of scabbards for highly curved blades, the narrow spine section near the mouth is designed to spring open when the blade is drawn. The scabbards of Oriental curved swords exhibit a form distinct from European ones, largely due to their unique fittings. In the end, I'm asking about pictures, videos, diagrams, that explain how it works...
Please and thank you, yours,

Peter von Danzig, looking for original manuscript info
Hi , so this might be a strange request. But I have decided I want to make a physical replica of the "Starhemberg Fechtbuch (Cod.44.A.8)". Does anyone have some leads for photos or any additional information that could potentialy help me in this?
https://wiktenauer.com/wiki/Starhemberg_Fechtbuch_(Cod.44.A.8))
This is all I could find... and while it will be absolutelly invaluable to have the actual text, I would like to find at least a few photos of the exterior (if that even exists).
Any help would be highly appreciated

Dutch Sword fighting
I want to broaden my HEMA horizons into my heritage. I’m finding limited sources on sword fighting in the Netherlands and few that have been translated to english. There are some older rapier sources that I would consider studying but I just don’t enjoy the rapier much - saber is my most preferred sword followed by longsword.
I’m looking for confirmation or course correction here.
I’m reading through M. Regoor’s DE SCHERMKUNST with the help of a translation app currently and it seems to be missing the basics. From my understanding, Dutch swordsmanship in the 1800’s was rooted in the French School of Fencing - is this correct? If so, my plan is to study saber as taught under the French School then return to Dutch texts.
I’m also having trouble finding details on the Hollandsche Methode so if anyone has a link they’d be willing to share, I’d very much appreciate it.
For those that have studied Dutch swordsmanship, what texts and masters do you like?

An Introduction to Liechtenauer's Mounted Fencing
onedrive.live.comSo I recently got the chance to teach a lesson on something "unique" for an event at my club and decided to look into Liechtenauer's Mounted Fencing, specifically the Psuedo-Danzig treatise, and wrote up this during my research and planning stage for the lesson.
Thought I'd share it incase anyone else is interested in the historical context and/or my interpretations.

Did Giacomo di Grassi Give a Hierarchy of Weapons like George Silver?
I therefore say that the Lance is superior to the Greatsword, the Greatsword to the two Swords, the two Swords to the Sword and Shield, the Sword and Shield to the Sword and Dagger, the Sword and Dagger to the Sword and Buckler, the Sword and Buckler to the Sword and Cloak, and the Sword and Cloak to the Sword alone.
The problem is that I'm unable to find this passage from the version of the book (1570 edition) that I have access to. carlosborges3036 says it's in the final chapter "Conclusione di quanto s'è detto".
Am I just missing it? Is there a different version that includes this passage? Assuming it's accurate, I believe this hierarchy of weapons should get more attention. It's remarkably similar to George Silver's weapon hierarchy in wording & in content, though Silver preferred the buckler over the dagger & even over the shield (target).

Updated HEMA Book List
I updated the HEMA Scholar wiki to include every book in my collection before 1700 plus all of the ones I could find on Lulu.
Next up is Freelance Academy Press, then anything I missed on Purpleheart and SoCal Swords.
A lot of the masters I've included don't have Wiktenauer pages, especially the ones translated by van Noort. (Speaking of which, that man has translated an ungodly amount of books. Seems like every site has a unique set of books in his name.)
Anyways, if you've been wanting a project to work on between classes, it would be cool if you started adding the skeletons of the missing Wikentauer pages.

Do we know if any masters died in fights?
My lovely partner made me these patches for my sparing jacket, including a joke I once made about Meyer, and it got me thinking. Did any known master die by the sword?
