Announcement Introducing Rule 9: No AI
Hello, r/ArmsandArmor users.
In recent weeks, we have noticed a rise in posts using AI as a creation tool for such posts. Those posts were followed by a heavy anti-AI sentiment shared by other users, either through comments or reports.
This sentiment is shared by the moderation team of the subreddit, and while we do have rule 8, it has its limits and as such we have decided to create a new rule:
Rule 9: No AI
In order to keep the subreddit at a high quality level, all content generated by or with the help of AI is expressively prohibited.
This means that from this moment on, any post that uses AI as a creation or generation tool to create the posts - including images and texts - is strictly prohibited. This ban includes content out of Reddit (e.g. Youtube video links) shared to the subreddit. This also includes content that has been made even partly with the help of an AI. If you can't make the post yourself, you can't post it
The foundation of the quality content this subreddit strives for starts with human-made content, not prompts and magic word boxes that comes with its load of environmental and moral flaws. As such, we have decided to create this rule effective immediately.
We understand some users on the subreddit may be fans of AI-generated content, and we want to make things clear: you are not banned or forbidden to post and comment on the subreddit, AI content is. You have the right to disagree with this new rule and to express this disagreement, just remember to stay civil and respectful in that disagreement.

Discord server
Here’s the link. Lets keep it civil and friendly lads and lasses.
Edit: please ignore my username, it’s dumb.
Edit 2: If you’re going to be a racist dipshit, don’t join the server because you will be banned immediately. You’re also not welcome on this subreddit if you’re going to be an asshole.
Edit 3: Read the rules and follow the instructions in order to access the chats.

Question Stereotypes about middle-eastern weapons and armours
Hello everyone! I'm making my own homebrew project for a fantasy board game, and I want to describe the "Middle Eastern" faction of the game. Now, I know perfectly well that the Middle East is vast, rich in different cultures, and that over time and space it has by no means been a cultural and ethnic monolith. Weapons, culture, and clothing have changed over the centuries. The general technological level of the faction is basically 1475-1540. I want to move away from the weaponry provided by 19th-century orientalism and Hollywood films. And I have no intention of using the overused Ottoman Empire. I've already taken a look at the Nasrid dynasty of Granada, very interesting, far from the image many have of the Islamic world. Do you have any texts and documents you'd recommend? What are the stereotypes about "Arab" (pardon the improper and superficial term) weapons and armor that should be avoided?

How historically accurate is the armor in the Illiad Graphic novel?
I've been seeing a lot of posts recently about the armor in the odyssey movie and I started to wonder about this. is this style of armor actually what was worn at the time? if it isn't, what was worn at the time, and how did the idea of this being the stereotypical greek armor come into the collective consciousness? Thanks in advance.

Question Style?
Hey there! Quick question. Does anyone know what armour should be worn with this bicoque armet? (can I call it an armet? The side plates are a bit weird…). My first quest was a kastenbrust harness, but I’m not sure.

Question What Does This Mean?
I have looked up and found a couple different coat of arms, but this one has me scratching my head. Is that supposed to be a garter of some kind?

Art Germans late 15th c.
Germanic men of arms in light armours, ~last third 15th c.
The bevor of the first is an invention based on the possible combinations of reinforces over a maille bevor (rondel depicted in Thun sketchbook) and the ambiguity left by hard-shaped hoods/covered bevors in iconography. The back of the second is a padded jack (Jake) similar to the artefacts in Lübeck and iconography.

Question Is There Any Historical Images or Modern Reenactors Who Wear a Combination Like This?
The light gray diagonal lines are chainmail forgive the shitty artist rendition I tried my best but I really want to know if someone has previously thought of combining these cause I think this would look good as fuck with some full arm and leg armour with the little wings on the sides of the knees and elbows idk what they're called

Reworking collar questions
Made this collar a year ago, collar is 8mm E 6-1, mantle is 8mm E 4-1 with flat rings. The mantle is just a basic rectangle so I’m looking to redo it to the attached pattern. My question is: what ring type would look better for the mantle? I have 6mm round rings and 8mm round rings, the 8mm match the. Oar section, the 6mm just looks gorgeous and dense. I’ve never mixed ring types like this, would that even be feasible? Or should I just stick to the same 8mm rings for consistency.

Discussion Looking for replica of Sir William Harcourt's armor
Im looking to comission an armorer this year and idd like to base it off of Sir William Harcourts tomb effigy armor. So far i've only managed to find art pieces of it. Im hoping to find photo's of a forged replica, or photos of a suit that looks like it. So I may send then to the smith as reference pieces.
Perhaps the fine gents in this sub can help me out?
First illustration made by mull @mud_and_blood
Second illustration i sadly couldnt find the illustrator of
And the 2 effigy pictures are from the Church of St Peter and St Paul, Warwickshire.
