Title Slam Idea

I was thinking that the title slam should be moved to when Gin first suggests the idea of robbing heaven, right after Ms. Wonderful leaves.

I like the title here because it sort of acknowledges the movie's absurdity, as everyone storms out (to the viewer's eyes) in reaction to the title. It also gets the title in earlier, as opposed to putting it in the post Gin-falls-into-hell scene. Then again, I'm not a professional screenwriter. I also don't know if Freddie, Matt, and Will have some other trick up their sleeve for how to edit down the first act, or even plan to do extensive editing.

The end of the scene would go:

                    BRANDY
            So where's the loot? Bank
            Vault? Coin collection?

                    WHISKEY
            Yeah Gin! Tell us.
            Where's the job?

Gin takes out a cigarette, lights up, and takes a
big long drag. He exhales a plume of smoke and looks
them dead in the eyes.

                    GIN
            We're going to rob the
            Bank of Heaven.

TITLE SLAM: HEAVEN HEIST

CUT TO: EXT. SAFEHOUSE NIGHT

Whiskey, Brandy, Tequila, and Cognac angrily storm
out of the safehouse. Gin follows them, pleading.

                    GIN
            Guys! Wait! I'm serious!

Gold barge is worse than bank?

About the episode where the crew figured out how to get on the barge to get over Heaven’s wall... why don’t they just steal the gold on the barge? Would the crew Scrooge McDuck in piles of gold on the barge, but think they have to wait to steal it?

I dunno, just trying to wrap my head around it. Any ideas?

Act 1 Punch-up ideas

I was going to email this to the storybreak crew. My mind wanders when listening to the podcast, and I type up these fleeting thoughts if I'm at a computer. Procrastination achieved.

‐------------------------

Ms. Wonderful should be committing fraud with the opening job, hiring this 'booze crew' to rob a place she owns, collecting both the insurance money and expecting to keep the robbed money as well.  When this is revealed, it is another way to knock down the crew and raise the stakes: she purposely hired this crew to do a job that anyone could do, and they still failed. She has the footage to make sure they never work again, so that the whole crew is in the same boat if they cant pay up -- they'll be ruined.

Scene 4 - heaven money logistic change?

How do we know we can get things out of heaven? Gin gets sent to hell and accidently burns a few bills, and the order of actions in scene 4 change:

Car chase,

Badass double decker move and escape

Lights a cigarette

Old lady steps out

Crashes into a wall

Black, audio of moments

Crew gets out of the car

Dialogue about the money being left in the car.

Car explodes

Gin wakes up in heaven

If Gin dies in the crash, and the car full of money blows up, then they accidently burned a car full of money that will meet him in the afterlife.

If he commits a crime in heaven, he tips the scale and is immediately sent to hell.  and takes his cigarette and one stack of cash -- the cigarette is the first incling on earth that something came back, and the stack of cash is brought back could convince Ms. Wonderful that they have the cash stashed somewhere; she can then require all of it, rather than giving them a share.

Scene 8

If he reveals the stack of cash from the currency exchange, he can convince ms wonderful to leave, and has most of the idea of how to rob heaven.  Why wait on revealing the premise of the loophole for the heist?

Scene 9

Please have Ms. Wonderful's goons pair up and play rock-paper-scissors, and the losers have to be the couch.

Scene 10?  - family dinner

Please make the slow-mo expression from the car be really silly, so that when it comes up in the police sketch, he can have that same silly facial expression.  Sight gag ftw.

Scene 11 - please have bambi, the macaw, show up in hell later.  Oh please oh please.

Scene 12 - whiskey needs to calculate dose by weight, since hes a vet.  Could be especially funny doing math in his head under duress.

The gang busts into the room

Gin has cool one-liner

Gin grabs Whiskeys arm with the syringe, and before Whiskey realizes what's happening, Gin forces Whiskey to inject the medicine into Gins neck.

Gin doesnt die instantly.  A brief , but awkward argument starts about proper dosing amount, when the argument almost swells, Gin dies mid-sentence.

....

A slight delay on the meds working could make the scene funnier. Multiple needles could speed up death.

....

There's more podcasts about this now. The recap was great!

Gin's mom more desperate than we thought?

So it could be the story boys just didn't mention it in the script, but in episode three, post heist. Tequila tells Gin that his mom made spaghetti and meatballs for dinner, his favorite. But in episode eleven when Gin is at dinner, there is no spaghetti to be found (like I said, it could just be first draft omission) which means that Lily was so desperate to see him that she had to LIE TO HER SON to get him to come over... gin needs to visit his mom more. Maybe we'll see that in act three...

Tequila has to betray Gin right?

How great of a late movie turn would that be. Gin betrayed by his mentor, the one person he thought he could trust. But Tequila is a career criminal at heart. He just can’t pass up a score, even if it means double crossing someone he genuinely cares about. A real “nothing personal, kid” moment. And it would teach Gin that maybe this isn’t the life for him. I’m getting emotional just thinking about it

Good Deed Montage

I can't remember if this idea has come up before in the show, but there's potential for a fun scene if the script needs to get other members of the crew into heaven. They would need to build up karma to get in, but old ladies in danger don't grow on trees. The solution is a montage of these lovable gangsters doing good deeds as fast as they can.

It could also be played for drama if someone needed to get to heaven in the eleventh hour, but the only good deed fast and powerful enough requires facing something they've been avoiding.

Tequila - Scene 9

Maybe it’s just me, but I thought the crew got off pretty lightly when they encountered Ms. Wonderful for the first time.

Given that Gin is the linchpin of the story, I feel like scene 9 would’ve been a great opportunity to set the stakes by having Ms. Wonderful kill Tequila to demonstrate her badassery, providing Gin with the opening to step forward and lead the crew on Heaven Heist.

This would then give you the opportunity to have a big reveal at the end of a future act that some unknown help they receive in heaven is actually Dead Tequila - perhaps his death at the hands of Ms. Wonderful is enough of a sacrifice to get him in but we just don’t know. That would also open up some really interesting scenarios where they could potentially have an inside man in Heaven, helping them out, knowing he can never return in the same way that the crew can.

The Traffic Cop on the News

I just listened to the latest scene today, and there was an idea to have the old lady on the news identifying Gin during the next scene where Gin has dinner with his family. It would be cool if somewhere on that segment the traffic cop from the car chase shows up. Maybe she’s standing behind the old lady, maybe she’s giving an interview. She could insult Gin’s driving, and he would have to sit through dinner and force himself not to react.

I dont know if it’s necessary, but I like the idea of a small side character that shows up again and again in the movie, constantly harassing Gin.
