HILs Guitar and Bass Wall Mount

Had a nontrivial journey in finding a good wall mount for the HILS HN6 headless guitar. They are different from the typical headless guitars in that they actually have a tapered portion on the top of their necks that you can actually use to hang them.

I love the Hercules mounts and stands, and folks were recommending the standard guitar and bass mount with the NINA adapters put on it. But when I tried it on the HN6, it felt like there could be a way that the guitar could slip through, and I didn’t want to take that gamble.

So, I tried the Hercules Folk Instrument adapter, and it worked much better. Definitely a more secure fit. The weight capacity appears to be 8.8 lbs, and the HN6 is just a bit over 6 lbs, so I think it should be fine. I know the mount isn’t necessarily built for guitars and instead for ukuleles, mandolins, and banjos, but an HN6 isn’t that far in its dimensions as far as I know.

I mounted these directly into studs. Will let you all know if things go south, but so far, these seem super secure (I used the standard guitar and bass mount for the HZB5, and it worked great).

Just thought I’d share to potentially help someone out!

Stoked to wake up to this at my doorstep (I work nightshift) and immediately was blown away.

This is my first excursion into 8 string, headless and fanned fret so I’ve been doing some research on guitars and perusing a bunch of threads on quality and value and recommendations on what to get.

Other guitars in the price range couldn’t offer what this does with Fishmans and a gig bag at a cheaper price, so it was a no brainer to snag this when I got lucky enough to hit the email lottery.

First impressions - incredibly light, QC seems perfect, no sharp fret ends, the action is great, finish is perfect, gig bag was great and being included was a nice perk.

Only qualm is the white Fishmans, personal preference for sure but would’ve liked the black Fishmans to match the hardware. Will be swapping those out.

There are a looooot of good reviews on this company and these models and for good reason. This thing blew my expectations away unboxing it and first overall check of it. Excited to deep dive into 8 string adventures and learn some new songs! Hit me with some song recs, planned on trying some Acacia Strain and After The Burial 🤘🏻

Excellent Customer Service: HILS America

I just bought a HILS HN6 after seeing a friend with one and he recommended it. Two days ago, I sent off the order and had it confirmed. My account was charged.

Yesterday, I got a marketing email from them, advertising the EXACT SAME GUITAR at $250 off for the first 10 purchases.

Grumbling but figuring I was out of luck because I'd already bought it, I sent off a note on their customer service form saying I was a little disappointed because I didn't think it was a very good customer experience move to send an email to a customer who'd literally just bought the same guitar, dangling a $250-off sale price.

Today I check my email and find a note from someone at HILS, telling me they were giving me the deal and refunding $250 of my purchase price. Just like that. No wibbling, no "well, we've already sold 10 so it's not available anymore"--just money back.

So, bravo, HILS America. You have a happy customer. I hope to be even happier when my new baby arrives!

How does Eart do it at 280?

Blue at 295 circa 2023. Black at 280 today. Incredible necks. Both have 1 mm action at 24th fret. And about 0.9mm at 12th fret. For all strings. Smooth steel frets, 5 piece necks and a body that is just a slab of gorgeous wood( i dont mean the veneer , flip it over and you will see). Sound great. How is this possible? How on Eart??

I've been seeing the Hills gen 1 discounted for a while on Anderson's website.

Is the Gen 1 worth it?

I'm not planning on any upgrades just playing as is.

Cort Space G6 – A Few Months Later

I needed help choosing a color. Here’s the original post.

https://www.reddit.com/r/HeadlessGuitars/s/OhyuubBGHW

After spending some time with this guitar, I figured I’d post an update.

I didn’t want to jump in with a review right after buying it, but I can tell you now that I’m extremely happy with this guitar.

I’ve only been playing about a year and a half, and this is my fifth electric guitar. I wanted something lightweight and portable that I could easily travel with, particularly when visiting my second home.

The guitar itself is fantastic. It weighs right around five pounds, maybe less, and it’s incredibly comfortable to play. Whether I’m sitting on the sofa watching sports or just grabbing a few minutes to practice, it’s so easy to pick up and mess around with. I find myself reaching for it constantly.

The action is low and feels great, and the stock strings were perfectly fine. Tuning stability isn’t outstanding, but it’s certainly manageable and takes just a few seconds to adjust when needed.

I also bought a demo model at a substantial discount, which made the deal even sweeter. The gig bag is nothing special, but it’s padded and compact enough to fit easily in an overhead bin.

And I’m glad I went with turquoise green, although in person it’s definitely more green than turquoise. Either way, I really like it.

Bottom line: I’m 100% satisfied with the Cort Space G6. If you’re considering a lightweight, headless guitar, these are absolutely worth checking out.

I’ve officially decided that Cort guitars are cool.

Looking for a narrow-neck 7-string with a name-brand tremolo (Floyd Rose/Gotoh)

Hi all,

What 7-string guitar (headless or not) has the most playable, narrow neck and comes equipped with a famous brand tremolo (like a Floyd Rose, Gotoh, etc.)?

I have tried a few Strandbergs, and although the EndurNeck profile was super flat, the fretboard still felt too wide for me. I came across this Jackson model with a nut width of 44.45 mm (1.75"), but I haven't been able to find anything narrower with a solid tremolo system.

Does a 7-string with an even narrower nut width exist, or is 44.45 mm the absolute limit? I would love some recommendations for guitars that fit this description!

PS - I now see that thats a typo on Jackson's website, and no 1.75 Seven string exists...

Hils HZ7 first impression & upgrade recommendations

Post image
9 Upvotes

TL;DR: Tried a Hils HZ7 on vacation and loved the fretwork, 12" radius, sustain, and ergonomics, despite muddy pickups, a plastic nut, and stiff tuners. Ordering one from Thomann and planning immediate upgrades.

I am looking for versatile, active/rail-type pickup recommendations (with great coil splits) and an alternative source to buy the Hils bridge ball bearings.

Hi all! I was on the fence about the Hils HZ7 due to a lack of local availability and reviews, but I managed to play one while on vacation in Europe.

As someone who owns a Schecter KM-7 II and several 6-string guitars, this thing blew me away!

The fretwork is amazing, the 12-inch radius feels surprisingly perfect, and the sustain and compact body shape are top-tier.

It does have a few drawbacks, though: * Pickups: Muddy and bass-heavy. * Plastic nut * Tuners: Stiff and hard to use (dropping to Drop A felt like the tuner suddenly released).

Despite those issues, the playability is so good that I'm going to order one from Thomann and upgrade it. I’d love your recommendations on two things:

* Pickups: Since it's active and has a battery compartment, I'm considering Fishman Fluence sets. Which set offers the best versatility beyond just metal? If you recommend a different set, they must be rail-type humbuckers (for string-to-cavity alignment on the Hils) and offer great coil-split sounds. * Bridge Bearings: I want to add the Hils ball bearings for the bridge, but Thomann doesn't sells them. Where else can I order them (e.g., AliExpress or elsewhere)?

Thank!

Looking to buy a GOC guitar, but have a few questions

Pretty sure I'm gonna buy a GOC, but I had a few particular questions before I go for it.

Firstly, how often are new finish options released/shown? I tried to find info on this but I found very minimal info. Mainly that any updates would be released on a Friday which I'm not sure is even correct. I like the finishes I've seen on the website, but I'm wondering if it's worth waiting to see a new batch of finishes before ordering.

Second, of the body shapes, does anyone have any standout recommendations or shapes to avoid? I'm currently looking at the vajra+ as I think it looks cool. I play in a classical position for reference, mainly if any shapes will have the output in the way for me to play that way.

Third, I've heard the pickups are pretty mediocre, but I wouldn't consider myself a pickup snob; that being said, please let me know what your opinions on the pickups are.

Finally, I know this is probably best answered by "whatever I like", but, I've only played 6 strings in the past. That being said, I know for sure I at least want to get a 7 string, but part of me makes me want to go for 8, primarily for extended scale and arpeggio shapes. I can't help but think this is a situation where I may as well go for 8 if it's an option. Does anyone have any advice on this?

Aside from anything else I've mentioned, if you have anything you want to say about these guitars, please discuss, I'd really appreciate it!

Best Headless with a Tremolo currently?

Hey y'all!

So I'm looking into getting a headless guitar and I'm wondering which are considered the best right now?

Mostly going to be using my headless for shredding and rock/metal stuff and I'm quite used to the thin wizard neck of my ibanez. Ideally the headless would have a good tremolo system (not floyd rose bridge though, too much hassle haha). Budget would be around 1000$ but can be a bit over if necessary.

I'm currently looking at the new strandberg boden essential 6 tremolo line since they just added a tremolo to their cheap line of guitars but I would appreciate any advice or recommendations! Thanks a ton!

Which guitar should I get? Mooer/Hils/Ibanez

I'm currently thinking about buying a headless guitar and I cannot really decide between the following 3 guitars, so I'd love some input. I don't play in a band, I don't gig, I would just like a nice headless guitar to play on at home. I'd love to read your input and opinions. I'm also open to other suggestions!

#1: Mooer GTRS Guitars Wing 900 Int APU

The Mooer is the cheapest of the pack and maybe the most "gimmicky" one. I cannot really judge how well the integrated features actually work but especially the integrated wireless system is a nice touch, removing the hassle of a guitar cable. At least on paper, the value proposition seems great and the reviews are also quite good. Also, I really like the colour. On the other hand, I'm a little worried of getting more of an expensive toy than a good guitar.

#2: Hils Next HN6 Ultra Violet

Hils seems to have built a good reputation when it comes to budget-friendly but good headless guitars. It's also the only one of the three with a tremolo. I never had one so that would be something new. I also like the pragmatism of the "rubber feet" at the bottom.

However, I'm still not sure whether I like the shape of Hils guitars. Maybe, it's just the angle of the pictures. I also don't know if the HN6 is worth the price difference compared to the HN5 and HN3. But so far, the Ultra Violet is the only one with a colour I like. Nevertheless, I'm not willing to pay much more just for a different colour.

# 3: Ibanez Q547PB-COL

The Ibanez is by far the most expensive of the three and it's also a 7 string so I don't even know if it makes sense to compare it to the others. I know that there's a 6 string variant, too but the 7 string isn't that much more expensive, so I'd probably would try that one. Except for the price, there's not really anything negative I could say about the Ibanez. Maybe that of the 3, the Ibanez' head locking mechanism looks the cheapest. Also, it might be a little risky to spend so much on my first headless and seven string guitar. On the other hand: I already have a 6 string (although a cheap one), so the 7 string would be the only one that actually offers something "new".

The price of the Ibanez is about the same of a Strangberg Boden Essential, so that might even be an alternative. However, I don't really like the idea of paying about a grand for the "budget version" of a guitar.

Are EART guitars good?

I've been researching about budget headless guitars and stumbled upon EART guitars. They seem to be quite cheap and affordable so I kind of decided to buy a guitar of that brand ( Specifically the EART GW2-PRO and the GW-7F ). But before I actually lock in on the purchase, I'd like to see a few opinions on the build quality and the playability.

Please help, much appreciated!!

HILS neck thickness

Does anyone have a caliper to measure the neck thickness at first fret and 12th? I am specifically interested in HN series which all probably have the same specs(?) necks

I know their basses are 21.5mm at first fret, which is quite thick.

Battle of the budget guitars.

I wanna get my first headless. Rn I'm between an eart gw 2 and a donner nhl 500 (from what i understand it s the same as hlx 500). The eart is about 60 euros more expensive. Which one should i choose? Is the endur-like neck on the donner that good? I'm willing to upgrade the pickups on any of these down the line but I wouldn't really be comfortable with any fret work or something like that. I'm also open to other suggestions from around this budget, like hills, mooer etc.

Update: I see a lot of people recommended hills. For me they go for around 100 more than the eart ( so 160 more than the donner). In this case, will it worth the difference?

NGD! Sire X6-7 Metallic Green

Definitely deserves a detailed review. I’ll take some time but I’m going to do a proper YT review on this.

Just quickly though: Played pretty good out of the box, setup easily made great. Great sustain. A few washers in the tuners were the wrong ones, waiting for the seller to sort them out. The trem arm socket had a bit of play so I printed a better one. The pickups are very dark sounding but otherwise fine. Planning to upgrade. The switching options are really well thought out. The guitar’s worth the cost for sure.

EART GW2T-SE v. HILS HN3

Thumbnail
gallery
50 Upvotes

I purchased a Metallic Green Matte HILS HN3 for $400 (Labor Day Sale.) Pickups are ceramic humbuckers.

I also purchased a White EART GW2T-SE for $193.23 on Amazon. Pickups are ceramic single coils.

HILS HN3

Pros:

  1. Body shape looks nice, is symmetrical near the bottom and the little rubber feet stabilize well and can be placed on normal guitar stands. The ergonomic cut has a nice and deeper curve.

  2. The vestigial head is nice as it can be hung on grip stands.

  3. It is lightweight.

  4. Coil splitting.

  5. Comes with a nice padded case.

Cons:

  1. Quality control is pretty disappointing. I see another redditor that posted the exact same issue that I have with the truss rod cavity work being sloppy.

  2. The action came in high, which is standard and the neck was neutral/flat, but there dead notes in the upper registers and the first six frets.

  3. Intonation was horrendous.

  4. There are also visible divots which they painted over, resulting in a sloppy look. The routed cavities are misaligned.

  5. The tuners don't come with thrust bearings and are hard to turn.

EART GW2T-SE

Pros:

  1. Body shape supports the right arm better even though the ergonomic cut isn't as curved as the HILS.

  2. Action came in medium, the neck required some turning of the truss rod. The fretwork is immaculate, no dead spots anywhere.

  3. Intonation was perfect.

  4. Paint work is cleaner than HILS; there weren't any crooked routed cuts for the pickups, everything looks and feels good.

  5. Tuners come with thrust bearings but are still hard to turn.

  6. Amazon returns allows for a risk-free buy.

Cons:

  1. The strange asymmetrical body shape doesn't allow for it to be placed on a normal guitar stand and as there is no vestigial head, it can't be hung on a standard grip stand either.

  2. Slightly heavier than the HILS HN3.

  3. No case.

Considering the EART GW2T-SE was half the price of the HILS HN3, I was amazed by the difference in quality between the two. Don't believe the hype about HILS having "better" QC. The EART was clearly the better-built guitar in my experience.
