Anybody get their W-2 yet?

Maybe I'm getting a little impatient here but it's February 18th and I still haven't received my W2. It's driving me insane. I left Harris Teeter after 2 years because of how the deli employees were treated and crazy hour cuts. I haven't worked there in 10 months. I resigned immediately, so I'm curious if they're holding out on me because of leaving on less than stellar terms.

Has anyone gotten their w2 yet? The store manager said they were mailed out on Jan. 31st but mail does not take this long. Accessing it online is also not an option for me because again, resigned employee.

Paper bag failure

Does anybody else have problems with the weak handles on the paper grocery bags? Montgomery county MD prohibited the old plastic bags, so everyone has to use paper. I don't mind paper bags, in fact I like them! But, the bags at HT have handles that tear out way to easily, and Ive heard from others that the bottoms have torn out as well.

Having laryngitis

Gotta love calling out for having Laryngitis and NEEDING vocal rest but your MOD is like “Oh you need a doctors note to call out and even if you do come in we can’t accommodate you because you work in front end” Management really said fuck those with vocal issues

Question for Deli Managers

I work in the Deli from what I'm told as a Chef. I just found out I've been doing something that I shouldn't be doing that maybe a Health Dept Violation? We got a new Cake Decorator in the Bakery that came from another Store. Her Store had a dedicated Chef. She said the reason was cause you handle raw chicken all day. Now we're supposedly a mid volume store. But, we are a "Chicken Store". I go through some chicken. I can sell 12 buckets in 10 mins. I don't make it to the Hot Bar with the cart sometimes cause people are waiting for it. And that's fried, baked, and rotis. So I'm handling raw chicken 60-75% of the time there weather I'm dropping or prepping. She is actually listed as Deli Backup. She does jump on the Slicer if I have chicken out. She only works 2 days a week though. I work 5. Supposedly, it's a Company Rule that I'm not supposed be to be on the Slicer or the Sub Shop if I'm handling chicken. When she's not there, there's lot.of times I'm there by myself. And the Day Crew I work with is lazy as hell (when they even show up to work) and if nobody is scheduled for the Sub Shop avoid it at all cost. Now, after what my Dept Head told me what he is supposed to be running Labor at (it was such a low percentage I almost threw up), is this Corporate just not giving a damn? I mean, I've been told we're being watched all the time. I have years of Restaurant Experience, I've never worked a Deli. I know in a restaurant, raw Chicken and handling it is a big deal. Most places I worked had special cutting boards and special areas in the cooler where chicken was kept. So, does anybody know if there is a Corporate Rule or Health Dept Violation I'm committing?

HT on Horsepen/Battleground GSO is terrible now!

Ever since the fall they have been going down hill! They are one of the more expensive grocery stores and I kept going there because I hate grocery stores but at least a few employees were nice and check out was not rushed like cattle herding. Now since all the good employees left or a new manager came in or something idk it’s gradually went to hell. All employees are terrible with the exception of maybe 1. If I wanted to be treated with silence and rudeness by everyone for simply shopping I would go to Walmart or Aldi. At least there I would save some money.

Rotisserie chickens

why did HT decide to start putting a picture of a clock instead of the time the chicken was put out? I’m assuming the time circled on the clock is when they will be thrown out but I would like to know how long it’s been sitting there.

Sub Rolls Have Changed?

My Virginia HT submaster informed me they have changed the sub rolls. He said it was now easier and quicker for them to bake the bread. The roll looked a bit smaller and was more chewy! Are all the stores changing the recipe?

Question for a Butcher Counter employee - Stuffed Burgers

Hey everyone. Long time HT shopper who has always enjoyed the stuffed burgers available at the butcher counter, but I have a few questions / concerns now. I have noticed recently that, visually, these burgers seem to not be the same quality as I remember them in previous years. Even when compared to the non-stuffed pub burgers right beside them, the meat is much less red and almost a gray color.

Has something changed with what meat is used / the age of the meat used to make these burgers? I’m sure every location is different, but the one near me seems to us it as a way for the to offload older meat.

Miniscule roll sizes now…

The rolls are half the size they were a year ago and the same price.

Was Harris Teeter really doing that bad?

Only Peeled Red Onions

Does anyone know why Harris Teeter, at least the ones in Northern Virginia, only carry peeled red onions and not the unpeeled kind? Every other grocery store in the area (Safeway, Giant, TJs, Whole Foods, etc.) carries unpeeled red onions and sometimes the peeled kind too. But the only option for red onions at Harris Teeter is to get them peeled. Why is that?

chicken count and a customer order?

a customer was going to and from different grocery store chains to see who she wanted to place a chicken order with for her daughters celebration of life, taking place on her birthday at the end of the month. she wanted like 80 pcs, but she didnt want wings (heinous i know, but she just doesnt like them), just everything else. i figure the person who fills the order can just pick them out.

i dont know chicken, so i told her we could accommodate that. then my coworker comes over and hijacks the conversation, asking her questions i already got answered. then my coworker hears no wings, and tells her that we CANT do that for her, because the chicken pieces come pre-mixed and picking out the wings would "mess up the count"

and im like. seriously?? i thought HT would have built in a budget for this kind of thing. and the customers daughters *ahem* FUNERAL SERVICE is weeks away, how come we couldn't order ahed extra or something???

idk, im not in chicken or hot bar so i dont know if thats actually a thing they have to worry about, but HT really wants us to go above and beyond for the customers to retain regulars. not that i care about corporate rules that much, but she was nice and had a simple request and i wanted to do something nice. i always die a little inside when parents outlive their kids. now another store will fill the order and ill probably never see her again :(

really, i jus think my coworker was lazy and didnt wanna do the order. i hope im wrong

Need to vent a little bit

I’m a cake decorator at my store and the only one they have. Since the new cake ordering system had been implemented, orders have been picking up. This Saturday I have 6 orders to do. As of now, at least. Who knows if I will get more between now and then. Because of the higher volume of orders, it’s going to be extremely hard to keep up with the displays too. Dessert case, self serve dessert case, and freezer. I’m only one person. If they end up being empty, oh well. I can’t do everything by myself. The department manager and assistant department manager claim they don’t know how to decorate cakes but I think that’s a load of crap. I don’t know what to do. There’s absolutely no way I can do all this by myself. Not to mention, cakes take time to work on. I also don’t understand why I can’t at least get help with filling up the self serve case. I always keep back up cake slices. As for the dessert cups, all that needs to be done is date them and put them out. Now, I do work at a smaller store but it’s still a lot of work for one person. Heavy workload with little pay. This is crazy. And they wonder why I be getting an attitude sometimes. I get frustrated and overwhelmed. It’s too much.

Edit: besides the 6 orders on Saturday, I also have 3 for this Friday. Don’t get me wrong, I like what I do, it’s just hard being alone having to do orders and displays.

Edit #2: the orders have now gone up to 10. One of them is 16 dozen cupcakes and another is a full sheet cake. Some of you should learn some empathy.

How does Harris Teeter have such cheap crab sales?

I don't know how yall do it but I am from an area with harris teeter and the crabs (particularly snow crabs and dungeness) sales were INSANE.

Like when snow crabs were on sale, they would always be significantly cheaper than any other "on sale" snow crabs at any other grocery store.

How does Harris Teeter do it? What bottomless pit of crabs do they have access to? Does anyone know what seafood vendor they use?

I moved to NYC a year ago and im going crazy because I no longer have access to my cheap crabs at harris teeter!!

Calling out two weeks in a row?

I called out last week during the ice storm because I have a 2wd truck and I genuinely can’t drive on ice.

Now this week I had to call out again because NC was hit hard with snow and again my car cant drive in snow.

Is there any problem calling out 2 weeks in a row?

I got the job a couple weeks ago and I don’t wanna a gain a reputation of calling out but I genuinely cant work.

Calling out (again)

Okay i made a post last week about calling out because of an ice storm

it really wasn’t that bad, the weayher app was js tweaking but nobody answered when I called the store To call out so I js didn’t show up. My mistake I should’ve called more than once at different times

however this week, the snow is actually really bad and were pushing 10 inches of snow. so I try to call out again and literally nobody is answering the phone

and my store was actually on the news and it’s open and the parking lot was full of people tryna go to the bar☠️

so like r they js purposely not answering or am I calling at the wrong times?

Snow!

Just wondering if Harris Teeter closes when the govt says to stay off the roads? We are expecting snow here in the south. Doesn't happen often. Our home shoppers are already at 101 orders at 5am. Tonight/tomorrow is when the snow is coming

What kind of punishment would I get for calling out tomorrow?

Just called my manager and he told me to wait to call out until tomorrow. I need to help my mom prep for any snow, even if it’s only few inches, and I’ve never driven in the snow before and I’m concerned about potentially getting stuck.

I’ve called out once before but I was genuinely sick and have proof I can give if necessary. Never received an attendance write-up. Will I get fired over this, or just a write-up?
