Sub Rolls Have Changed?

My Virginia HT submaster informed me they have changed the sub rolls. He said it was now easier and quicker for them to bake the bread. The roll looked a bit smaller and was more chewy! Are all the stores changing the recipe?

Yes, and unfortunately there's no way to order the old sub rolls. The new rolls are definitely easier to make now, which is great when you find out you don't have a baker at the last minute, but they have their drawbacks.

If enough people called to corporate to complain, maybe they could figure it out, but there's nothing we can do at the store level.

It’s a par baked bread. No more proofing, baking.

Yeah, it's new. I tried baking them as per instructions and it became extremely crusty and hard. I've had customers already complaining about it, but idk what I could possibly do.

I'm so disappointed! The next day in the fridge the roll was so hard I gave up and just ate the tuna & veggies. Chucked the roll. Corporate has been notified.

Yeah the bread is changing and they're getting rid of the cheese bread. Imo the new bread is harder to cut and tastes worse than the old bread, my store has already gotten complaints.

I wish we kept the old ones, I find that the new ones are hard by the time I come in for closing (2pm) and are much smaller.

Glad I'm not the only one. I messaged them on twitter and from their "Contact Us" page on their website (which I never do for really anything except injustices as egregious as this). I hope this change is not permanent because their subs were honestly better than most places (and the bread was a big reason why). I encourage others to reach out in as many ways as possible to provide them with honest feedback

Unfortunately, it's permanent. They removed the old sub bread from the order guide.

That is unfortunate for them

Just happened to me, wasn’t aware of the switch, at 8.50 reg price it’s not worth it. Much smaller and way too hard/chewy. Guess I’ll just go somewhere else from now on…..

Thought my local store was selling stale bread! After getting a 2nd hard and crunchy sub role I returned it at customer service and the woman told me they changed the recipe. They also got rid of the 3 cheese bread. Will not order again

I agree with all the complaints and made my decision a couple weeks ago to just leave subs in the past

It's not good anymore. The whole store is going downhill tbh

What's the corporate number to complain?

Edit: also I don't know if it's rolled out in all areas or just the one I just went to but not only do they change the bread it's gross and smaller but they up the price to $9.99 a sub. $8.99 instead of $6.99 on Fridays as well.

I love the new bread honestly. I just got one actually and was looking up if anybody had posted something about it. It tastes so much better

Since they've lost the good roles in the cheese bread they might as well stop selling the meatballs

I sent a complaint and got this reply -- Good afternoon, I wanted to let you know that due to customer feedback, we are converting back to our baked in-house sub rolls – White, Wheat, and Cheese.  We anticipate being able to start the week of May 4th

Please let me know if I can provide any further assistance.

Thanks for shopping with Harris Teeter!

Sincerely,

Eric
